Restaurant Bonaparte is nice but unremarkable-nothing I ate was offensive, but nothing really impressed me.
Cocktail options are fun, & the cream of mushroom soup was very good. The plating on the entrees seemed a little tacky & unrefined. The lamb was well cooked & had good texture, though lacked flavor to me, & the chicken with brie similarly tasted like… chicken & brie, & nothing else. The duck was pretty good though in a very sweet sauce.
The desserts were standard, the chocolate mousse was a little disappointing as it didnt taste like they used real chocolate in it as opposed to powder, & was simply piped into a bowl.
The interior ambiance is very nice, & the service was good. While I think the food here is good, I believe there are better options around both for flavor & presentation of dishes
Service is excellent & food is great. We really enjoyed the duck leg & duck breast. Chocolate chips soufflé takes 20min so order ahead. Convenient location from the Notre Dame.
A six star experience & my favorite dinner in Montreal during this trip .
Bonaparte hit all the marks with their exceptional service & attention to detail .
We made reservations weeks in advance & it is highly recommended to plan accordingly.
We were greeted & taken to our table which was a great location overlooking the outside . Quiet & able to hold a conversation without noise or disruptions making the ideal ambiance.
Bonaparte restaurant style & surroundings take you make to an old school elegance & charm . Dress for the occasion .
Our waiter was amazing . He explained the menus perfectly & made note of a gluten free guest also offering their own gf bread & butter . A must .
Cocktail menu & wine menus were extensive & detailed . We asked to try some local gin based cocktails . He did an amazing job proposing two cocktails that set the tone for the dinner .
Soup of the day was a potato & leek . Simple flavorful & filling . What else does one need ? Together with the delicious breads was a good starter .
Main dish was out of this world . Roasted duck breast cooked to perfection . Prepared with a maple syrup sauce & wild berries (including tart cranberries) which elevated the dish . Vegetables mix balanced the dish . In combination with the herbal cocktail this dish was extraordinarily special .
After dinner digestif menu included some nice choices to wrap up a delightful dinner
Many thanks to the entire staff that made our event so memorable . We will be back again next time we are in Montreal
This was an incredible fine dining experience. The wine list is a novel. Choosing our meal was hard because everything sounded amazing. We tried the duck breast & beef bourguignon, & they were incredible delicious. Prepared perfectly. The sweet potato puree that came with the duck was very tasty (I wanted much more of that). The only thing that disappointed was the Brussel sprout that came on each of our plates. But dessert more than made up for it. Their dessert cocktails were out of this world & the souffles are really a work of art. Great place for a fancy date night.
One of my favor restaurants in Montreal. Bonaparte is a timeless gem in Old Montreal, offering classic French cuisine in an elegant, candlelit setting. Every dish, from the foie gras to the duck magret, is beautifully prepared & full of flavor. Service is attentive & professional, & the wine list is superb. Perfect for a romantic dinner or special occasion.
The ambiance was calming. Mathieu ensured we had a great experience & was very attentive & jovial. The food was delectable & scrumptious if I may say so. The renard duck & the special of the day stood out.
L'ambiance était apaisante. Mathieu s'est assuré que nous passions un excellent moment & s'est montré très attentif & jovial. La nourriture était délicieuse & succulente. Le canard Renard & le plat du jour se sont particulièrement distingués.
The duck is mind blowing, service was attentive & helpful.
Rack of lamb disappointing. Duck was good.. Service was very good. Nice atmosphere.
My wife & I had the absolute pleasure of visiting this restaurant recently. We were delighted the moment we walked in, to the moment she had her salad & Beef bourguignonne, & I had my Rabbit confit & roasted Duck breast. The desserts as well are also splendid. It goes without saying that when we came to beautiful Montreal to treat our palettes & rest, the experience we enjoyed, as well as the attentive service & atmosphere, was most definitely our highlight. They seem very consistent here & that, I feel, is what sets examples.
There are two restaurants that are our favorites in Montreal. Those are Bar George & Restaurant Bonaparte. Bar George has been our favorite for the last few years. Our all-time favorite has been closed for more than 10 years & that was known as the Beaver Club. Bar George has tried to kind of make itself similar to that but unfortunately I'm noticing it's a little bit not quite what it used to be. I would have to say our current favorite is Restaurant Bonaparte. It is located in the Napoleon Bonaparte hotel. Where is Bar George is what you'd call British, restaurant Bonaparte is full on French. When you sit here you're in a nice white dining room with crisp white linens. True high-end French dining. For my course I had the filet mignon topped with a nice large lobe of foie gras. It really doesn't get much better than that. There are high-end steakhouses such as Joe Beef etc. the food in those places is excellent but the noise can be very distracting. Add Bonaparte you have the epitome of fine dining. The staff knows your likes & dislikes. You are exceptionally well cared for in that restaurant. It has become our favorite now. Seafood, Steak, Pork & Duck dinners are all wonderfully prepared. The desserts are simply elegant without being over the top. We found the Profiterole to be among the best we've had anywhere. It is a fairly expensive restaurant among the most expensive we were at during our vacation. But this kind of fine quality dining attention to detail does not come cheap.
Fantastic place with great French style food. The duck was excellent & the cream brûlée connection with food gras surprisingly good
The server was great. The speed of the food was very slow. Meal quality was great & they have an excellent wine selection. The duck & rabbit were both lovely. Again just a long wait between courses.
By far the best place I've ever eaten. It's been two years since my husband & I went for our anniversary & I since dream about this restaurant. The duck with maple syrup is amazing. The napoleon rivals that of any French restaurant. I will count down the days which I can come back. Please never change!
We had a great time at Bonaparte & would definitely visit again! We came for the four course Montreal à Table menu, which was excellent. I tried the pumpkin soup, duck confit, beef cheeks, & chocolate cake. Each dish was well-presented & tasty. The only dish I probably wouldn't order again is the beef cheeks, which I thought was good but not great compared to the others. On the flip side, I'm still thinking about the duck confit 24 hours later. I also got the wine pairing for each course, which was a little ambitious seeing as they were full sized glasses. I was told that the normal menu comes with half-servings though. Our sommelier was knowledgeable & took the time to explain each glass. It made for a very enjoyable experience. Service was 4 stars. It took about 15 minutes for us to get seated & for someone to take our order, though I'll write that off as it being a busy Friday evening. After ordering though, each course & wine pairing came out at a smooth & enjoyable pace. Overall a great experience. I would highly recommend visiting if the menu suits your tastes.
I was in the mood for classic French food. That was exactly what I got. Oh wow, the food was absolutely amazing. If you don't believe me, look at the photos. The interior decor was comfortable & the service was excellent. It was a Monday evening & not crowded at all. I started with a kir to whet my appetite. Then had the shrimp & scallop harmony which was tasteful & beautiful to look at. Of course I had to go with a traditional duck confit which is my go to favorite. A succulent duck leg cooked so slowly with that moist juicy interior & served with the jus. It came with a few vegetables, more for decoration than taste. For dessert I had a glass of ice perry & the calvados souffle. It was huge but so light & airy, truly a stunning creation. The golden-brown crust was crisp & when I bit into the souffle the apple brandy taste just melted on my tongue. I can't wait to visit again.
I went there twice in a row. It's an amazing restaurant! A hidden gem if you may. The meat dishes are delicious & tender. The duck breast & the lamb rack are heavenly. I'm going for a third time tomorrow! Oh yes it's not cheap but worth every penny! Same premium service & food as Vegas 5 star hotel restaurants but just half of the price! Worth it!
If u r looking for a very nice restaurant in the heart of Mobtreal, with really goid food & ratger affordable price, u can't find any better place than Bonaparte restaurant. But, there is a big BUT here, if u expect Michelin level, it is 4/5 compared to Michelin standards. I ordered 4 different meals there. 1st their twisted French onion. Its stock was the best that it could be, showcases the high quality of the restaurant. The 2nd item that I ordered was their best item on the menu:" crem brule' with Foei gras", it might seem weird but it's just genius. Try it & u will find happiness at 1st bite. My main course was confit leg of duck, which had way to be perfect. Nothing special about that, quite pricey, perfect presentatiin like painting with unseasoned vegetables as side dish. It was good, but not so good. The desdert was lime pie, it was 9/10, in my pallet, needed more lime aroma. In general: definitely worth trying. Plus, the manager of this restaurant, was the most polite person that I haver spoken to in whole Canada. He was so good at his job.
Incredible meal, service & time. We did the tasting menu with wine pairings. Our server, Guillo (sp?) could not have been more professional, knowledgeable & pleasant. The best of the courses was: Rabbit, Ravioli & the Duck. Just a really great time & meal!
Service is nice, but a little slow. Not a problem if you wanna drink & just chill. Food is very good. Steak tartare is very nicely done, as is the duck breast. Plating is pretty, more like an artwork. Good atmosphere too. A good place for some fine French cuisine.
Phenomenal attention to service & truly 5 star experience. Wide variety of dishes with a unique twist. Highly recommend the duck breast with blueberries & maple syrup, as well as the rabit confit phyllo.
