We went to Bistro Nola last night & had an excellent experience from start to finish.
We shared a few appetizers including the mac & cheese, fried chicken, & gumbo sausage, all were absolutely delicious & full of flavor. Perfect for sharing & a great way to start the meal.
For mains, we had the smoked brisket, braised short ribs, & blackened catfish. Every dish was cooked perfectly & packed with rich, authentic flavors.
Dessert was on another level. We tried the Mississippi mud pie, pain perdu, & beignets. Everything was amazing, but the Oreo mud pie really stood out.
Service was fast, friendly, & very smooth all evening. The restaurant was packed, so we were really glad we made a reservation.
Overall, great value, amazing food, & a fantastic atmosphere. We'll definitely be back.
Grosse portion. Note : 8.5
Note: 9.5
Note : 8.5
Note de mon compagnon 8.5

I absolutely enjoyed every single meal at Bistro Nolah! First of all, I had no reservations & was assuming I could just show up & be seated as it might not be too busy on a Sunday night but to my surprise it was full! Regardless & irrespective of the fact that I was not expecting them to accommodate us, they were able to make it work! The service was great & the food was even better. Everything was so hot & fresh when it came out. We started with the Mac & cheese, fried chicken, jambalaya & gumbo. Everything was delicious, I found the gumbo a little strong on flavour for my preference but the fried chicken was decadent. Perfect amount of chicken to batter ratio, very fresh & delicious honey glaze to top it off. For mains, we went with the jerk shrimp grits & braised short ribs. Both were delicious! Lastly, for dessert we enjoyed the bread pudding which was also delicious! Overall I would go back over & over just for the amazing food & service. It was beautiful to experience a little bit of NOLA here in Montreal!
Simply delicious! From the entrées, to the mains, & finishing with the desserts you simply can't go wrong.
If I were to criticize anything it would be their chocolate torte (-0.5 star), not very chocolatey (sadly a complete letdown) when compared to the Mississippi mud cake which was devine!
Chris, our waiter was excellent!
I wanted to go back & called to make a reservation & was informed that they only do reservations online & it requires a credit card to do so. (-0.5 star)

Went back & had another good meal. Chris was again our waiter & was great! Even my children enjoyed the food! The staff are friendly.
The only complaint with our meal would have been the fried chicken. It was super juicy, but not crispy at all.
Update
Went for another meal & it sadly did not live up to previous visits. Not sure we'll be going back.
Service & atmosphere is great small & quaint restaurant. The food itself is awesome everything is fresh & you can taste it. Grits are awesome & so are the desserts makes me feel like I'm having some real home cooking definitely recommend southern food in Quebec is rare & this place does it for real so if your like me & love some southern comfort food come check it out you won't be disappointed
X-cellent. Period. Lobster, shrimp'salad' ain't a salad, eats like one of best tartares around. Superb gumbo, crab cakes, oysters, bread, fried chicken, jambalaya, desserts etc etc...Plenty of parking, great staff, brunch equally good....one of best in west, enjoy. We do.
We went on Saturday & ordered the hush puppies, shrimp creole, fried chicken, & Mississippi mud pie for dessert. I had the Hurricaine cocktail. Everything was delicious!! The staff is really friendly & attentive. Great place to eat!
My husband & I went to Bistro Nolah for our anniversary dinner. As soon as you walk in, you feel like you're in a different place. The atmosphere is so zen, the decor brings you to New Orleans.
We have the grits & jambalaya as appetizers. I always wanted to try grits, but never had the chance. These grits will make you slap your mama. They are tasty, smooth & full of flavour. I could eat it morning, noon & dinner, with snacks in between. If I could, I would've sneaked in the kitchen to take the rest of it home.
The jambalaya has the perfect blend of spice & flavour.
Main course: brisket & catfish. The brisket comes with mashed potatoes & mushrooms, surrounded by two different types of sauce.
The catfish lays on a bed of mashed sweet potatoes.
Again, both dishes are packed with flavour & a right size portions.
Desserts: chocolate torte & bread pudding. One word: Decadent.
What I loved about the menu is the amount of gluten free items.
The food is well worth the price. Bravo Chef Richard! We will definitely return for brunch.
Decided to have a spontaneous night, drove here at 9:30 on a Friday night with my gf, forgot my Bistro Nolah gift card I received from my mom last Christmas, drove home to pick it up, drove back, just to be greeted unfortunately news by a waiter that their kitchen is closed & are only serving desserts & drinks at this time.
Ended up leaving & going elsewhere that also has indicated on google, closing time at 11:00pm (the same time as Nolah) but the kitchen was still serving food.
If I could reimburse a gift card & give the money back to my mom, I would
It is an unforgettable & amazing experience from appetizer to dessert. We had Jambalaya & Southern fried chicken as appetizers. We had southern style beef short rib & Duck Conflict in dirty rice as main. We had Banana Pecan Cheesecake & Bread Pudding in Bourbon sauce as dessert. We emptied everything & we will definitely visit again.
I have been waiting to try this restaurant for a long time but it has been difficult to reserve. Finally we booked for 4 ppl on a weekday at 6:45pm. On arrival our waiter welcomed us then proceeded to inform us that we will need to order quickly as there will be a second seating soon following us. We politely nodded & started looking at the menu, he returned to give us an overview of the main courses & finished by reminding us of the time limitation. At this point we were puzzled but we let it pass. Following the main course he returned with the desserts menu & asked us to pick quickly because we only had 20 minutes left. At this point we had only been there for an hour so my friend, frustrated, asked him why we can't stay for the 2 hours allocated in the reservation. He said he didn't know our arrival time even though he seated us then went to check our reservation. After much time & only when he came to take the desserts order he apologized for the mix-up.
I understand restaurants need to make their margins but this was over the top & relentless. It left us all feeling underwhelmed by the whole experience. We didn't even enjoy the food. It was my first time at this place & I seriously doubt I'll be back. I hope they take this as constructive criticism & learn to manage their reservations in a gentler way.
Laid-back atmosphere, great food, & great service. Jambalaya balls & sausage gumbo are an appetiser must. Lots of great main dishes like shrimps & grits, blackened catfish, fried chicken chorizo, & brisket mac & cheese. For dessert, try the beignets & the key-lime pie.
Service souriant, courtois & efficace. En famille, entre amis ou en couple. Toutes de bonnes options. Prix justes. Highly recommend 👍👍
Disappointed by our brunch experience last Sunday. I understand staff shortages, but service was slow & inattentive to the point that we passed on dessert/coffee & someone from our group had to leave the table to directly engage our server who had ignored all previous requests. The food was not served to all of us at the same time, the potatoes were lukewarm & the po'boy bun was over toasted & inedible. We don't go often & we've had good experiences in the past, so I guess this was just an off day.
I went for dinner with my husband last night & wanted to try this restaurant for the first time. We were pleasantly surprised that there actually was a good number of options for gluten-free food as my husband cannot eat gluten. Overall, they do not have a massive menu selection to choose from, but in this case I think it's quality over quantity (a very good thing) - the items they do have on the menu they can really focus on making sure it comes out with great quality: excellent presentation, flavor, etc. The alcoholic beverages (cocktails) are very pricy but do taste great & aren't watered down. The overall ambiance of the place is cozy & the noise level is acceptable for a bar-restaurant. However, had I known better, I would not sit at the table which is directly under the AC unit again (it drips a lil bit of condensation) - that was the only minor issue I had with the whole experience (& kinda my fault for picking the spot before realizing about the AC dripping). Bistro Nolah - if you guys are reading this, maybe move that particular table a bit further out from the wall so the AC unit cannot drip on the table directly below it. The staff are friendly, welcoming, helpful in answering any questions we had about the food, attentive (checking if everything is to our liking, asking if we need/want anything else, etc. at reasonable intervals), & also bilingual which I appreciated (I do speak/understand a bit of basic French, but English is still my main language). We were provided with 1 bread roll per person with their special chipotle butter (? I think) & I got to enjoy both 😅 (I did feel a bit bad for my husband missing out). For appetizers, my husband got a creamy corn soup & I got the boneless fried chicken. The corn soup was creamy, savory & refreshing (I took a lil taste test) & the chicken was fried to perfection - tender & crispy with a nice sweet & mildly spicy sauce drizzled on it. For the main entrée, we both went for the Beef Short Ribs with mashed sweet potato & vegetables which we both enjoyed. For dessert, my husband got the gluten-free Chocolate Torte, & I went for another round of the boneless fried chicken as strange as that might be (I'm trying to eat less sweets & the chicken was just too good for me to not to get seconds). I wanted to give my compliments/thanks to the chef(s) at the end because I was very impressed with how delicious everything was. We had an enjoyable evening here & would recommend this cozy lil bar-restaurant.
Amazing ,delicious from main course to dessert, great service.will be definitely going back !!
Our dining experience in Montreal has been somewhat disappointing recently, with restaurants charging very high prices for sub-par quality. I'm absolutely happy to pay for good quality food, & I understand the difficulties restaurants are facing post-pandemic. That being said, we went to Bistro Nolah tonight & were blown away by how wonderful everything was. Ambiance was lovely, really loved how cozy the restaurant is, the jazz music & the decor. Tables are spaced well enough apart & music is a good volume so that you don't have to yell over any noise. My partner & I definitely plan to come back for another date night. The service was great. I almost wished they came less frequently to our table, but we arrived at 5 pm when it was initially less busy. Still, it was not overbearing by any means. We were given plenty of time to relax after getting our check without us needing to search for our waiter to pay. & our waiter clearly knew the menu really well - we really appreciated his input when we were choosing our meals. Finally, the food & drinks were fantastic. I had a Dark & Stormy which was double the size of a cocktail I'd get in the city. Great value, well made. Nothing special on the cocktail menu front, but still very much enjoyed my drink. Started out with some nice warm bread rolls with some very addictive smoky/sweet butter. We shared the sausage gumbo appetizer. Really tasty & notably the texture of the rice in the gumbo was perfect, but can't speak to how it compares to gumbo from Louisiana. Not particularly spicy, as someone who eats a lot of spicy food, contrary to what some reviewers have said, but flavorful. I would recommend trying it, but will skip it next time & try out the fried chicken or mac & cheese, as a matter of personal preference. We shared the brisket & creole shrimp mains. Brisket was phenomenal, especially the barbecue sauce. Love oyster mushrooms, but could take or leave the ones on top of the brisket. Felt like they could use a better sautée & that they didn't mesh that well with the dish. Mashed potatoes were also delicious. That said, it was my favorite dish we ate, as well as my partner's, but was very closely followed by the creole shrimp. If you don't like heat of any kind, the creole shrimp might not be for you. We love spicy. The shrimp was cooked perfectly & the flavor was fantastic. The tomato sauce was also incredible & had the perfect amount of heat. The side of jambalaya & veggies were good too, but not the star of the show. To be fair, I was incredibly full & saved them for last - a testament to the nice portion size for what we paid & my mistake of eating a pain au chocolat an hour & a half before dinner. For me, what makes a restaurant stand out is attention to detail, & Bistro Nolah does not disappoint in that regard. I can't wait to come back & try some dessert next time! If you're like us & live nowhere near the West Island, I hope this convinces you to make the trip. My only regret is not coming here sooner.
Been meaning to go for a few months/since opening. No reservation, still was able to sit at the bar. Service was very good, great attention from our waiter(maybe owner/manager) & the bar staff. We ordered Mac & cheese & Jambalaya balls (special menu) & they were amazing, took shrimp creole & braised ribs for mains, both great dishes, shrimp creole was perfectly spiced, I am always worried when ordering shrimp but in a creole restaurant it's a must & was not disappointed. Braised ribs was tender & delicious. Drinks were made with fresh citrus juices & very tasty. Unfortunately no room for dessert. Atmosphere was welcoming nice music & good vibe. Would go back & would recommend. Did not take picture too existed to eat.
Long overdue post. The food was delicious.the fried chicken & crab cakes were amazing. The blackened fish was tasty, a little on the salty side but mouth watering & the dessert was decadent. A must if you’re looking for authentic New Orleans cuisine in Montreal.
A wonderful, original restaurant for when you want something different then the normal, Italian, Greek or American style food that is predominant in the West Island. My party enjoyed every part of their meals from appetizers (Hush Puppies, Fried Chicken, Jumbalaya, Sausage Gumbo) to dessert (Mud Pie, Chocolate Torte, Bread Pudding with Bourbon Sauce). Four out of five of us choose the Blackened Creole Shrimp (a special) as the main meal. It was very tasty.
