I was really excited to visit since it's a household name in Montreal however the quality of their food & service was not reflective of their reputation. I'm surprised a basically meal was super expensive with nothing special on it. Second my friend got the gravlax sandwich with one piece of salmon & 3 tomato pieces to make the sandwich appear thicker. When I asked our waitress for my eggs over easy & well done yolks she gave me a face & came back with runny yolks. I will say tho the restaurant it self was well decorated with a nostalgic vibe. But I would look at other breakfast restaurants to try.
I was unfortunately underwhelmed by my visit. The food quality itself was acceptable, but the portions did not justify the price. My salmon bagel sandwich had very little salmon - it seemed bulked up with tomatoes to create the appearance of a fuller filling. Similarly, the egg sandwich contained what felt like half an egg, overloaded with cheese & bacon, which made it heavy but not satisfying.
What impacted the experience most was the service. As soon as we finished eating, we were asked to pay & leave because it's a fast-service breakfast spot. We politely asked if we could stay a little longer, but the response was unfriendly & we were told we needed to leave soon - despite there being open tables & no lineup.
Overall, it felt rushed & disappointing. With better portion balance & a more welcoming approach to guests, the experience could be much improved. My friends & I will not be returning to this place.
I ordered a sandwich called the BML (Beauty's something… if I remember correctly) from the brunch menu. It was a very basic sandwich: one slice of Kraft cheese, an egg, bacon, tomato, & mayo, served on grilled bread. No side dish.
It cost the same price as my colleagues' full brunch plates, which included pancakes, bacon, egg, potatoes , a bagel & more.
I'm not saying the restaurant is bad overall - my friends seemed to really enjoy their meals. However, I strongly discourage ordering this particular dish. Paying $25 (tax, tip in) for what is essentially a $10 sandwich felt like a rip-off, & I was extremely disappointed.
The dish itself could easily be improved, but in its current form, it completely took away my desire to return. I didn't recommend the restaurant to my friends because of this experience.
The restaurant should seriously reconsider the portion size & value of this item. It doesn't make sense to charge the same price for a very plain sandwich as for a full, well-garnished brunch plate.
Modern, diner vibe. Service was very friendly & attentive. Very interesting venue. No eggs benny here if that's your thing but I thoroughly enjoyed the Paysanne omelet. Packed to the brim with ingredients. Bacon, potato, cheese & parsley. Very delicious. Home fries had a good texture. Not super crispy like they were deep fried but just a hint char from the flat top possibly. The Omelette was huge & well worth the value. We decided last minute to try to go early, get a walk in without resos & got lucky. From the sounds of it, they'll try to squeeze you in if they're full but probably a safer bet to reserve ahead of time. Thanks for the experience. Will definitely come again.
Just got back with my husband from Montreal & all I can think about is our experience at Beauty's TWICE! First, let me mention we were able to meet & talk with Elana, the granddaughter of the original owners & then we met her dad, Larry. To say we were charmed would be an understatement. They couldn't have been more gracious, down to earth & charming. We had so much in common, it was fun getting to know them! Oh…the food?? First rate & I'm from the NYC area. Both of us had the lox, eggs & onions aka LEO. I can tell you I've had them at The Rascal House, Nate & Al's & Katz's deli & trust me when I say there is no comparison. The eggs were perfect, the onions perfectly caramelized & the lox plentiful. In addition you get a St Viateur bagel & IYKYK…the bacon & home fries were swoon worthy. I can't recommend Beauty's enough. I'm dreaming of my next visit! Thanks again Elana for the wonderful experience!!
I really liked this place from the traditional chains I normally go to. It has a home feel, our waiter was super nice, like really nice. We ordered a spinach omelet, 2 eggs, sausage, & a side of blueberry pancakes. Let me tell you, the omelet was outstanding with great flavor & the pancakes, wow hands down so tasty with 10/10 flavor of blueberries. Guaranteed you won't find that any loco chains. Just based on those 2 dishes, we can not wait to go back!
Just a great Montreal diner/institution. Service is super friendly & always with a smile. Get the mish-mash, comes with a st Viateur Bagel. It's a scrambled egg mashup with onions, salami, & hot dogs - paired with potatoes. The orange juice is fresh squeezed too! Lots of photos on the walls of famous people who have been there. Just a great experience!
What a throwback to the 50's You would think Marty McFly would walk in anytime .. arriving from the future !! Amazing diner with great American Style food !! The pancakes were great .. especially if you order them with the specially made maple syrup. Loved it ! The eggs & sausage with the potatoes were amazing too. I would probably liked a slightly larger option. But overall they were yummmy. This is a nice place for anyone visiting or living in Montreal. Plenty of food options & like the "all beef" bacon & sausage . My choice 💋👌🏼
Beauty's never fails to disappoint. I had the Beauty's breakfast with two pancakes, potatoes, sausages & bacon, two eggs & a bagel. It was a huge plate & as good as I remember from coming 15 years ago.
Beauty's Luncheonette in Montreal is your go-to for a cozy, throwback vibe & some unexpectedly solid life advice from the servers-who are more like your cool aunt who just knows stuff. They told me, "Give love, get it back tenfold." Yeah, & it starts with Montreal's famous bagels with scrambled eggs, avo, & tomatoes. Don't knock the "Mish Mash" until you try it; it's a bizarre mash-up of salami & hot dogs that just works. This place isn't just old-school, it's GOLD-school. Drop by for a bite, a laugh, celebrity sightings, & maybe a life lesson or two.
Adorable diner. Excellent service & food. We had basic eggs & toast & home fries, all cooked perfectly.
Quite a pleasant time. The wait was just enough time to conjure a mean hunger, which was sated by the eggs with lox, the beauty's breakfast melt, & a pair of excellent chocolate chip pancakes. It's a good breakfast, but I find it just a bit of a stretch to consider it a proper destination for a meal, especially from a distance of more than 30 minutes.
This place seems to have garnered some hype, but it might not live up to all the buzz. While they do a decent job with eggs & potatoes, it seems like most of their menu items are something you could easily whip up at home. If you do decide to give it a try, the Mish Mash & Beauty's special are standout options. The reasonable pricing & manageable weekend lineup make it a place you might consider revisiting. Overall, it's not a culinary revelation, but it's a reasonable choice for a meal out.
I had picked up my daughter & friends at the Berri bus station one day at 7am & figured it would be nice to treat them so we all went to Beauty's, known as the famed breakfast institution where one might rub elbows with movie stars working on location.
I ordered only 1 coffee. The 3 girls ordered breakfast with all the trimmings. I had to go across the street & get some cash because they would not take any credit cards (maybe it's changed today). The final bill came to about $70 tip included.
I find this exorbitant & was sorry it was too early in the morning because I would have gladly taken them to the Ritz known for their Eggs Benedict.
Service was so-so.
Too bad many restaurateurs gain acceptance & fame & then only rely on their reputation thereafter.
