The waitress was giving me & my friends attitude for no reason, which we ignored at first.
When it came to paying, we were pressured for tip, just by her presence. To be honest, food was not good & service was bad. i gave a little less than 15% tip (btw they start with 18% tipping options) & the waitress gave me a stare & left the table without saying a word.

she went to see her colleague right away & they were both staring at our table.
she did not come once to ask hows the food, did not properly bring our dishes to the table, barely smiled or acknowledge us.
also none of us finished our plates, she didnt ask if we wanted to bring our food to go.
I want to specify, tipping culture is important in mtl & i get it. but it is the customer's discretion & should not feel imposed. It is deserved.
i understand this place has a legacy in montreal but its reallly embarassing for them to treat their customers this way. frankly it just looks bad
I visited this place for brunch &, at first, I had a very positive experience. The food was great, & the service was friendly & attentive.
Unfortunately, my experience changed when it was time to pay. While I was selecting the tip amount on the payment terminal, the employee stood watching the screen, making me feel uncomfortable & pressured. Tipping should always be a personal choice, & I don't believe customers should feel judged for the amount they decide to leave.
After I changed the tip percentage because I felt pressured, the employee's attitude changed noticeably. The thank you felt cold, they turned away abruptly, & it gave me the impression that they were dissatisfied with the amount I had tipped. Had I known I would receive that kind of reaction, I honestly would have chosen not to leave a tip at all.
I believe fair wages are the responsibility of employers, not customers. Tips should be an optional gesture of appreciation for exceptional service, not something customers feel obligated or pressured to provide.
It's disappointing because the restaurant itself is very good, & I genuinely enjoyed the food. However, this interaction left such a negative impression that I'm hesitant to return. I hope management addresses this, as no customer should feel uncomfortable during the payment process.
Man, do I ever love this place! Especially when Larry, son of the 1942 couple who founded this place. I love to say hello, he is a classic charming proprietor! My favorite diner in all of Montreal. Classic impeccable interior, black & white tiles, long lunch counter, cozy window booths. Huge portions of delicious breakfast - brunch food. Lively young customers. Today we were in luck, no lineup - when there is they do an awesome job of moving folks quickly in & eating. You won't need dinner! Highest recommendation! 👑🐒⚜? d
