Review Summary

Barroco is described as a cozy, intimate gem in Old Montreal with a warm, welcoming staff and a stylish, historic interior that feels elevated yet unpretentious. Reviewers praise thoughtful, high quality French-inspired dishes and creative, well executed cocktails, with standout items like braised beef, beef Wellington, duck breast, halibut, oysters, lobster salad, gravlax, and memorable desserts such as madeleines and brioche. The service is repeatedly highlighted as attentive, knowledgeable and accommodating, helping to make celebrations and special occasions feel extra special, though a few nights report slower or less consistent service and some dishes that miss the mark. The atmosphere, music and ambiance are consistently cited as a key attraction, offering a romantic or intimate vibe that remains lively without feeling stuffy, even when crowded. While some comments note price and occasional small portions or limited vegetarian options, overall the reviews describe Barroco as a standout dining experience with high quality food, excellent cocktails and memorable hospitality that invite return visits.

Barroco was charming & romantic with great dishes & cocktails. The brioche starter with the garlic butter is something you can't miss, & the cantaloupe cocktail tastes like your biting into a fresh cantaloupe. Our server was very attentive & explained the dishes & specials very well.

The MADELEINES, OMG they were so good! Warm, soft, moist, everything you want from a madeleine plus the super decadent caramel chocolate sauce to go with it. Simply amazing

The food was delicious. It was a good balance of traditional dishes with modern twists without being heavy or dated.
Service was attentive & friendly without pretense.

This is a super cute tiny restaurant with really great ambience. The service was friendly & capable, but very slow the night we went, we waited 45 minutes between courses; maybe they were shortstaffed? The food was very tasty but the portions were very small given the price point.

We had a wonderful experience at Barrocos! The ambience was fun & interesting, the service was great, & the food was TREMENDOUS! I had the paella with octopus & it was delectable. My partner had the cod & it was also first rate. One of the best meals I've had in a long time. A memorable experience.

Dinner at Barroco was the highlight of my stay in Montreal & the best food I've had since I moved to Canada two years ago.

C'était extrêmement long & mou.

I've been to a few higher end restaurants & I tend to think that a lot of them aren't worth it. I would spend 3x the price to eat the food at Barroco. This restaurant is by far the best in Montreal & there is no question. Every time I've been here I order something new & everything it is top quality & amazing. This time, our waiter Phil talked with us for a while about other restaurants we like & the food here. He even brought me a special birthday shot at the end of the evening to celebrate. Actually goated restaurant.

For those who care, out of the meals I've had here (They were all 5/5 so don't stress)
1. The duck (Order this, it is wild the sauce is crazy)
2 - 3. Can't decide between the Paella & the short rib. The paella was so good but the short rib has the best sauce in the world if the place wasn't as nice as it is I would have licked the plate I am not trolling.
4 - & remember this is still delicious, the Veal special. The potato with the truffle was insane I wish I had 10 of them.

Side note, the sauce for the oysters took us on a trip we were eating it alone with a spoon because it was so good.

Anyways ill be back to taste the other items on the menu soon!

Without question one of the most beautiful old Montreal restaurants. I first went years ago when it opened. The food & service is good but not the top of my list in Montreal. The ambiance is worth it though especially for visitors. It's definitely a scene that is worth checking out.

We had a reservation for 9pm but ended up waiting at the bar for 45 minutes without any acknowledgment for the wait, which was disappointing. however, the food was excellent-unique, flavorful, & really good. we loved it! the dessert, the crème au chocolat & madeleines, though, was the least impressive part of the meal
