Barroco occupies a space defined by rustic textures and exposed stone walls that create a distinctively cozy character. The menu centers on rich, savory braised beef and selections of fresh seafood prepared with straightforward, bold seasonings. A creative cocktail program utilizes seasonal spirits and homemade infusions to complement the depth of the kitchen offerings. Wood accents and flickering lighting define the interior, contributing to an intimate environment focused on shared plates and substantial flavors. The atmosphere remains lively and kinetic throughout the evening, reflecting the bustling nature of the surrounding historic architecture. Every element works toward providing a tactile, sensory experience where hearty food takes center stage without pretense or unnecessary complication.
Barroco is widely celebrated as a premier dining destination in Old Montreal, consistently praised for its intimate, rustic atmosphere and exceptional service. Guests frequently highlight the quality of the cuisine, with dishes like the braised beef, fresh seafood, and thoughtful cocktails receiving significant acclaim for their flavor and presentation. While the majority of visitors describe their experiences as memorable and top tier, occasionally noting the lively, cozy environment as perfect for special occasions, some diners find the pricing high and have reported rare inconsistencies in service timing or food preparation. Overall, the establishment remains a highly recommended favorite for locals and tourists alike, noted for its genuine hospitality and distinct, charming character.
Excellent service de la part de jade, nous avons passé une excellente soirée, elle a mis nos fleurs en sécurité, c'est assuré que tout ce passais bien & as fait de très bonnes recommandations !
Our experience was fantastic! Our party of 4 tried the duck, sea bass & filet. All were delicious. Our server, George, was so helpful in selecting a wine that paired beautifully with all our dishes. The restaurant was cozy & included a wonderfully eclectic play list. We loved our experience at Barroco!
Came here for dinner last night, it was an incredible experience. Amazing food, & fantastic attentive service. Everyone that worked here was lovely to interact with. The previous night we were at another restaurant that was good, but the service here & attention to detail really set this dining experience apart from anything else!! Would recommend booking a reservation here to anyone who is visiting in Montreal! We will absolutely be back in the future!
We made a last minute reservation at the bar & weren't sure what to expect. It was fantastic! Service was excellent, drinks & food were incredible. We were able to take our time & weren't rushed. Just overall great experience & highly recommend
We had a wonderful experience! The food was outstanding, the staff were attentive, friendly, & looked like they were enjoying themselves. I loved the decor & the intimate, cozy space.
I have been to Barocco many times, which is why I chose to celebrate my birthday here. Unfortunately, the experience was really disappointing.
The service was slow from the start, our drinks took forever, & we were served a weak Casamigos after the bottle had run out. Our concern was initially denied, then confirmed when staff admitted they were out of Casamigos-yet we were still charged for it. Later, after moving an empty plate to the booth beside us to make room on the table, our waitress accused us of trying to steal it, which was both unnecessary & insulting.
The food was genuinely great, but the service took away from what should have been a special birthday celebration.
It's a shame, because this used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Montreal. Sadly, we'll be taking a break from coming back.
