Situé au Centre ville de Montréal, le Bar George's inscrit dans la continuité du riche passé du Mount Stephen's avec sa cuisine contemporaine mais résolument tournée vers l'avenir.
Bar George est décrit comme un lieu spectaculaire alliant une architecture historique et un cadre intérieur chaleureux, propice autant aux occasions spéciales qu'aux repas autour d'un cocktail. Brunch is simply not worth the price. The ambiance is very nice, the place is very instagramable. The waiters were kind but they were not attentive at all. One of the servers almost brought our order to another table. In general, the food is just not worth it. The avocado & toast is literally bread with sliced avocado on top for 18$+tax; there is no sauce, salt or spices. The other dishes were good, just extremely overpriced. The wait time for the food was also quite long for our table. We were ready to order at 10h15. After placing our order, the dishes only came to us at 11h15. We also had a mixup where the waiter misheard hot chocolate & brought my friend a hot toddy instead. If you're going to this restaurant for the pictures, I understand. But just know that you will have to pay a lot for average food. Edit: went for a group supper the second time. Increased my rating for food & service. The second time our waiter was very attentive & the food was delicious. Although it was a limited group menu. I really recommend this place for supper rather than brunch.
During my visit to Montreal for the Solar Eclipse, I had the chance to eat at Bar George, set in a historic building that feels like stepping back into the 19th century with its decor & vibe. The place has a warm & nostalgic feel, making it a really cool spot to dine. We ordered the Beef Wellington & the lobster risotto, both of which were standout dishes. The Beef Wellington was exceptional, perfectly cooked with flavorful mushrooms enveloped in the pastry, & served alongside sweet potato purée & peppercorn sauce. Although it was my first time trying Beef Wellington, it impressed me greatly & set a high standard. However, I discovered that my favorite cut of steak isn't typically used in Beef Wellington, so this might be my one & only experience with it-likely remaining unbeaten at the top of my list. The lobster risotto was equally remarkable. The risotto was perfectly cooked to a creamy consistency, neither too runny nor too stiff, which really allowed the flavors to shine. It was topped with four generous pieces of lobster claw meat, making each spoonful a luxurious treat. The lobster was fresh & cooked just right, providing a succulent contrast to the rich, creamy rice. The balance of flavors & textures made this dish a memorable part of our meal. The total came to almost 200 CAD (including tip), but given the quality of the food & the unique setting, it was totally worth it.
J'y étais pour un petit dejeuner, le service était bien la nourriture était bonne. j'avais pris un toast d avocat qui vient avec un toast & d'omelette. ( je recommande ) J'avais également pris également du pain perdu qui avec une crème anglaise ( très bonne ) par contre ce n'était pas du pain mais plus du pan cake.
Most recent visit was last Saturday evening. While the interior rooms are beautiful, I regrettably have to say that our cocktails were not very good. At $30 per, they should be near perfect. But we wouldn't have been happy with them even at half the price. Tastes like the ratios were off on all of the cocktails. They were also slightly watered down by the oversized ice cubes. Based solely on the cocktails, we wouldn't visit again.
Excellent spot to indulge in contemporary British dishes within the charming setting of a historic building. Came here for lunch on a Friday afternoon. The restaurant wasn't too busy, so we were able to get seated at the cozy couches near the fireplace. The interior beautifully preserved the classic ambiance of a century-old mansion, while the menu offered a modern take on British cuisine with a Québécois twist. Although there was a set course menu available, we chose to order from the regular à la carte selection, as it looked more appealing. Naturally, we began our meal with a half dozen of fresh Canadian oysters. Although similar to the briny oysters I'm used to in New England, these had a slightly creamier texture. The Hamachi Crudo followed, & these fatty hamachi slices were perfectly complemented by sweet & tangy toppings. However, our favorite from the starters was the Burrata & Sunchoke. The roasted sunchokes provided a delightful crispiness, complemented by the mild sweetness of butternut purée & the earthy tones of the greens, & each bite was rich & satisfying. For our entrées, we chose the Linguine Vongole, Beef Brochette, & the Mushroom Confit. The Vongole didn't have a prominent seafood aroma, but the parsley & chili-infused crusts added depth to the pasta. The Beef Brochette was somewhat plain in comparison, but the malt mayo & chips combo was quite addicting. The standout was undoubtedly the Mushroom Confit. This "cake" layered with three types of mushrooms delivered a masterful blend of umami, tanginess, & earthy flavors. The pickled Shimeji mushrooms, in particular, brought an exciting burst of flavor that enhanced the overall dish. Although the dishes we selected lacked "British" elements, we were pleased with our overall dining experience. I highly recommend visiting for lunch or brunch-you won't be disappointed.
J'y suis allée pour un brunch un samedi. Les lieux sont magnifiques. Le décor très travaillé (boiserie, tableaux...) agrémente le temps passé & le suspend. Le personnel est compétent, bienveillant & aux petits soins. Mes oeufs bénédictines étaient excellents. 2 bémols toutefois : le prix quand même assez élevé, & la musique un peu forte.
Great bar / restaurant in old gentleman's club & part of boutique hotel. We had late brunch menu & food was lovely - burgers & sourdough / avocado on toast. Wine particularly good. Shame we couldn't eat off the a la carte which looked excellent, but overall we had a great time. Waiter was brilliant too - sorry I can't remember his name.
Cadre sympathique. Service pas à la hauteur, en tout cas, en deçà de ce qu'on attendrait d'un lieu comme celui-ci. Nous y avons été pour des desserts un baba au rhum & un poire façon tatin. Honnêtement, je ne recommande pas.
It was honestly just ok, beef Wellington was $71 & it was just ok. We sat for a good 10 mins after we received our table without being greeted by our waiter (though he waked by us at least 4 times). Wouldn't go again.
What a beautiful place ! 🤩 So unique dishes & decor. Service was amazing with lots of suggestions & care. All plates were well presented by our server. Thank you ☺️
This place was recommended by the waiter at our restaurant & it did not disappoint. We did not want to wait for 30 min on Friday night so we can back Saturday afternoon & it beat expectations!!!
