Display Allfoie gras(370) duck(285) bar(146) recommend(139) wine(135) poutine(133) dishes(122) dessert(119) pork(118)We began with a glass of wine & three appetizers - scallops with basil & melon, the blue cheese salad, & the potato au gratin cheddar & bacon fois gras plate. All were exceptional & delicious & better than expected. Next, we had the Fois Gras Nigiri which was eaten fast but each bite was savored-a great portion, too! Our main course was next! We got the halibut, duck in a can, & the pork shank. All the portions were great however, the pork shank was more than enough, & we didn't finish that sadly. Although it was scrumptious. The sauce that accompanied it was delicious & so were the lentils. The halibut was fresh surrender by seasonal vegetables & caught in the wild. The duck in the can was consistent & delicious & is one of the staples on the menu, you can't go wrong here. Dessert was the traditional Quebec maple bread pudding which I could've had seconds! It's the best dessert you can get in the province of Quebec especially if you're a maple fiend like we are. C+ for seating us across from the bathroom & near screaming babies, otherwise everything was an A+.View more
This was a restaurant on my bucket list & it did not disappoint! The knowledgeable & bilingual staff helped to curate an unforgettable dining experience. We had the halibut & aged pork chop, also the special fresh burrata with caviar on house made sourdough to start. If you're in Montreal, this place is a must see! If you're at all culinary inclined, sit at the bar to watch these gorgeous dishes being prepared & plated 😁View more
With one exception, the food was fantastic. The foie gras poutine was off the charts delicious--totally worth the Bon Appetit assessment as one of the best poutines in Montreal. The halibut was perfectly done, the endive blue cheese salad was fresh & delightfully balanced, & the foie gras profiteroles would satisfy anyone enjoying this delicacy. The pork chop with morels & chanterelles, however, was tough & fatty. The dulce de leche lava cake was scrumptious; the pistachio profiteroles less so. The atmosphere was very lively & fun, & the staff clearly enjoyed great camaraderie with each other. The music got louder as the evening went on & it became too loud for us. The person who greeted us when we arrived was extremely warm & friendly. Our waiter, too, was very pleasant & helpful, including with recommendations about how much food to order & the wine. If we were only basing this service review on these two, we'd give 5 stars. But we did have a significant complaint that wasn't the waiter's fault--the service was incredibly slow. It took a long time to get our first course & then took VERY long in between courses--in one instance 45 minutes. We were seated at about 6:15 pm & did not finish until 10 pm. That was at least an hour longer than it should have been. Aside from the slow service, I'd definitely recommend Au Pied de Cochon for a delicious meal.View more
One of the best meals I've had in a long time! Get the pork chop. The service was lovely as well.View more
We were 6 people; 4 of which were from out of town. The server was engaging & attentive. Everyone's meals were delicious. We started with the oysters, scallops, & foie gras poutine. Then our mains were Duck in a Can, the lamb dish (one of the specials), pork chop, Quenelle (surprisingly amazing), & lamb shank. Then we had Pudding Chomeur, passion fruit pavlova, & a coffee/maple flan-type dessert. Everything was fantastic from beginning to end. Also notable was their homemade Baileys/Irish cream that was delicious.View more
We loved our experience! The pork chop blew me away! Dry-aged & seared beautifully with a tasty sauce with mushrooms. Served with pressed cabbage. 10/10View more
The food was amazing! We ordered the Duck foie gras poutine, the pork chop, Duck in a Can & Pudding Chomeur for dessert. We couldn't be more impressed with the flavour & the quality of our meal. Our server was fantastic & was very thorough in taking us through the menu. We were sat at a deuce table in front of the service area which was very busy & chaotic. We felt several times that the servers or staff would fall into us but instead ended up bumping into each other to navigate the narrow aisle. There really wasn't enough room for the table & the staff in that area. But we were very glad to have had the experience at this wonderful restaurant & wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.View more
Third time visiting, & the last time was pre-COVID - this place is still off the charts good. Unpretentiously amazing food with amazing staff that are clearly passionate about Au Pied de Cochon & what it provides to its guests. The food is to die for so yes, not something you would eat everyday, & yes, they make it worth it. Aged pork chop was amazing this visit, & the dessert... a crème flan-of-sorts swimming in maple syrup & coffee foam... wow. Go & enjoy!View more
The hostess & staff were very friendly. They made our visit so very enjoyable as we got into the foie gras themed plates that I call "La bouffe du diable" aka the devil's food. This a term that the chef appreciated as we devoured his amazing & wonderful creations. We started with the oblivious draw: foie gras poutine, the first sinful act. Then, the plogue a champlain, which combined decadent foie gras with a grilled ham (wasn't sure if it was but doesn't matter as its mixture brought on the a mouthgasm). The main courses were a lovely blood sausage & foie gras pie & aged pork chop with cabbage & an incredible mushroom sauce. I needed a glass of red wine to complement all that heart attack-inducing goodness & was blessed with a generous grail of a velvety Pinot noir. Praise the Dark Lord! When I thanked the chef & mentioned that I had hoped my dining companion would order the pork chop so I could order the foie gras mapo tofu, he said he would bless us with a sample. "Holy F*ck!!" was what came to mind when I had that first bite. My dining companion uttered "OMFG!!" I am & remain in awe of this amazing if not best dinner I've ever had. I thank the chef & his staff for creating an astonishing ambiance for us to submit to La Bouffe du Diable! Praise be to his mastery of Foie Gras!!!
A high energy romp through a fantastic & creative menu featuring pork, duck & foie gras - amazing!View more
Such an amazing meal!! Lovely cocktails mojipfo & matante rhubarb. Every dish an artistic achievement, so many complex flavors, so delicious! We began by dousing our eggs on duck temaki, relishing the bleu cheese salad with crunchy nuts, & the buckwheat pancake in foie gras. Then dove into the legendary canard en conserve & the aged pork chop, finishing with a coffee-cream enhanced flan. The waitstaff were perfect & the ambience super-high-energie!View more
Had dinner at this place this week, definitely didn't live it up to the hype. The restaurant was overly crowded, everyone is trying to move the table down so they can push themselves into the seat. At the end, whoever sat at the back of the restaurant had no way to even breathe!! & that was what exactly happened to us. When we reflected this to the waiter, she just asked the next table to move down, but clearly there were no space to move!!! Anyway the appetizer was great, we ordered four different one & love all of them. Highly recommended the duck tartare, perfectly done in taste & presentation! That said, the aged pork chop we ordered was very disappointing, it was dry & no favour to it. All in all, I wouldn't come back if they don't rearrange the seating. The food is good but hey it is Montreal, you get good food everywhere!!!View more
TLDR - Stop thinking. Just book it. Top Montreal dining & hospitality. Looking forward to the next 6 hr drive from NYC. Dinner for 2 at the bar - kitchen facing. Top choices: Foie Gras Nigiri & Duck In a can. Long - Sunday evening dinner in Feb - was able to snag reservations a week in advance! Memorable dining experience that was no rush, full flavor, & full service. Friendly staff where you can really feel the hospitality (& where staff enjoy working!). The bar with kitchen view may be the best seats in the house. Appetizers: Uni Pasta was rich & creamy. Was hoping for something more uni/ocean forward. Still delicious! Foie Gras Nigiri is a must try. Somehow light & decadent at the same time. Mains: Duck in a can - first time visit so had to try it. No regrets! Medium rare duck sous vide in a can with duck fat, Foie Gras, & cabbage. The toast soaks up all the flavor. Paired excellent with the wine our waiter recommended. Champvallon- stewed pork, onions & potatoes in a pot. This was pretty heavy - would recommend sharing. May have preferred the aged pork chop, but will have to try it next time. Dessert - flan topped with coffee crème. Excellent & nice cool sweet treat to finish off our meal. S/O to our servers Julian & Emil!View more
I went into this meal with high expectations, but while the service was excellent the food disappointed. - Duck tartare was great - (special) uni egg pasta was ok, but the uni flavor wasn't very noticeable. - Foie gras poutine was great; the foie gravy was a highlight. - aged pork chop was tasty, especially with the cabbage, but the meat was a bit dry & tough - the pig foot ragout also had somewhat tough meat. The potatoes in this dish were also not cooked (I'm not being picky here, they were crunchy & inedible). - the mapo tofu udon was ok but not great. - the black pudding was one of the best bites of food we've ever tried! I don't like writing negative reviews, especially when care is clearly put into the food, but our dinner was very expensive & the quality unfortunately didn't match the price or reputation.View more
Hi- the service was a bit slow. It took almost three hours to eat dinner. A little long for a weeknight. My pork chop was overcooked. The drinks were good.
Our server was very professional & kind, explained the menu to us & answered our questions. Everything was great, except for a few things - my cocktail was very watery & didn't highlight the flavours that were listed (rhubarb) & I couldn't even really taste the gin.
Loved the sea urchin pasta, duck fries, & our mains were delicious (duck in a can, aged pork chop)
We had to take most of our food home because everything was VERY rich & borderline over salted, we couldn't possibly eat another bite during our meal.
My top restaurant to recommend in Montreal! A great experience to remember. FOOD: everything was exceptional • Poutine Foie Gras: the fries was awesome, the gravy was so yummy, lots of foie gras. Everything goes so well together. • Duck in a Can: their famous dish, the plating doesn't look that nice but it's so tasty. Very tender, I love the harmony of flavor & scent of herbs, gravy & foie gras. • Pork Chop: The pork was a little bit dry to me but still taste good. Love the tiny little mushrooms. Gravy was so flavorful. • Chocolate Choux: the ice cream cleaned all the fatty taste in my mouth, very refreshing yet rich & creamy. They store hot chocolate ganache in a insulated bottle is just so cute. DRINKS: • Special cocktail of the day: the cocktail sounds very complicated, all I remember is some liquor infused in foie gras or something. It was amazing, I really love the flavor • Dessert cocktail: it looks cool when they lit it on fire, smell great but I think it's too strong to be a dessert cocktail. SERVICE: great service, they explained all the dish, check on us once in a while. VIBE: smaller place than I thought, super busy. I got a table by the open kitchen so the smell is gorgeous.View more
Visiting Montreal, & hearing all the hype I decided to go. I definitely got my fill of foie gras for the year. 2/3 plates had 100grams of foie gras. The poutine was delicious, I really liked it. The tofu noodle dish was my least favorite, not sure how the flavors mixed together...left me feeling unsatisfied. The braised pork was good but seemed to be missing a little flavor. Overall it was good, would like to go back & try the duck in a can.View more
This is a highly recommended must try place in Montreal & i'm definitely glad we tried it! We had the foie gras poutine, the canned duck & the aged pork chop.
The aged pork chop was definitely my favorite as the meat was soft & tender!
A wonderful traditional cuisine. I felt the hospitality of the staff, despite the fact that much of the menu is unfriendly to people who only speak English. Although I couldn‘t understand the French being spoken, I was very happy with the food I ate tonight! The first course was foie gras, pan-fried to perfection with a hint of attractive pink in the center, the sauce had the flavor of maple syrup & some gravy, & the toast underneath was drenched in sauce without losing the aroma of the Mélard reaction. Cheese is very high quality & the apple flavor is really refreshing. The cooked pork chop was so perfect! The leaner parts were also very tender, & the fatty parts were delightful in the mouth! & the cooked pork chops had a very strong pork flavor without a hint of the fishy pig smell. The mushrooms on the outside gave the pork chop a nice flavor, & the vegetables underneath were also very tasty. The pouding chômeur was very tasty! The flavors of maple & caramel & the different states of the bread being moistened were mesmerizing!
There are no words to describe how good everything was. The food & service stand out as beyond excellent. Don't ever take the pork chop off the menu!! Great wine list as well. Bravo!!
The pork head special was sublime. Your reputation is so well deserved. How rare to feel one's experience was worth every mile (or km), every minute planning your trip, every hard-earned penny. Thank you.
Top notch. Highly recommend the aged pork chop. Great food & service.View more
The aged pork chop had so much fat. The meat quality was good. Would have been better if it was all lean meat. Service was good, but there is no need to constant pour water & mop our table. I highly suggest having more options on the menu, we only had few choices for main dishes, one of our members was not a big fan of such heavy meats.
Pork chop was over cooked, no time between appetizer & main course, it was pushed too quickly pork chop cooked too early
Lovely meal!! Our waitstaff Marie ? Was wonderful. Fois gras mousse pork & Arctic char all delicious! Thankyou for a wonderful meal in Montreal.
My husbands pork chop was very dry. He didn't want to eat it hardly. My Guinea fowl was excellent. service was excellent. tight & loud restaurant
I have been to Au Pied de Cochon twice before with food & ambiance, this time their classic dishes were done right although the pork chop arrived to the table slightly warm but closer to cold...the newer dishes were very underwhelming for the price & personally did not impress me.
Obviously top tier professionals in the restaurant experience. Lovely spot for date night.
Open kitchen concept, but very hot inside as a result. The entry way is cramped, that's the only pain point.
Lively atmosphere & delicious food. We had the foie gras poutine as the highlight.
We ordered the special pork dish as well:
We felt a bit misled with this one. The pork dish alone could have fed 4 people.... there were 2 of us...
I wish the server had explained more clearly how much food we were ordering... the server recommended it to us, so I assumed that we ordered appropriately. We were shocked with how much pork came on the dish...
We felt guilty leaving food on the plate, & overate as a result.
Would return. Food was incredible, but a small hole was burnt into the wallet here. Not a once a week joint.
Minimum 15 on a glass of wine.
I think this is a special occasion place for most. Would recommend.View more
Food was subpar for a purported "Michelin-star worthy." The aged pork chop was fatty, overall under seasoned, & lacked freshness (a bit of citrus or even fresh apple, perhaps?). The duck breast, albeit delicious, was so tough, it could not be sliced without a fair amount of elbow grease or at all - we left about 1/3 of the breast on the plate. However, the accompanied the duck (including foie gras, camelized onions, & celeriac puree. Unfortunately, the brown butter was missing in action. Long waiting time for food, waiter a little distracted, & close quarters (my chair kept being bumped by the person sitting behind me & my companion's chair was in the throughway - she had to stand up once to let a person through).
