A delightful experience from start to end. Staff are very welcoming & food was everything I imagined. Highly recommend.View more
This place NEVER disappoints, a true Montreal institution for fine dining. Fresh ingredients, bold flavours, everything house made, you can't get better than that. We enjoyed the seafood platter & the yellowfin tuna that was caught in Nova Scotia that same afternoon. Highly recommend & will be back again soon as usual!View more
So good, second time here & it's sooooo good - from the food, to the service, to the ambiance. Highly recommend for those visiting & beyond!View more
Air conditioner didn't work front of house. It was very hot & humid that day & harder to breathe. Food is very flavourful & meals can be for 2 people. Recommend doing 1 duck dish & a pasta or fish dish to balance the richness from the duck dishes.View more
Mediocre food quality for the price. The branzino & sauce were tasteless. The beef tripe was nearly uneatable. Service was really good. Not coming back & would not recommend.View more
Our first time & it was exceptional. Loved sitting at the bar & watching the extremely organized chaos going on in the kitchen. Food & drinks were delicious & I would highly recommend it.View more
Duck in a can is one the the highly recommend dish. This one is a must try & I am amazed with the taste & texture of the dish. The Nigari is also an amazing mix&match dish I highly recommend anyone to try. Other than that staffs are nice & friendly. Highly recommended for anyone who come to Montreal.View more
I am visiting Montreal for the week & decided to try Au Pied de Cochon for the first time. The food was absolutely incredible. I highly recommend this the foie gras nigiri! The staff was exceptionally friendly & helpful, thank you for the memorable experience!View more
Second time here comming from Toronto. Everything I ate except the oysters ad foie gras, & that's a good thing, you can't not eat foie & come here. Everything was amazing couldn't get enough of the foie nigiri, the terrine was amazing with the maple butter. Finally tried the duck in a can. Although I did not have the foie poutine this year, I highly recommend that to. The dessert, pouring chomeur, was great. PIck the add cheddar & foie option it's a great pairing between sweet & savory. This place never disappoints & I will be back next year again, I need to try everything on the menu.View more
Excellent food & very attentive service. It has been a very long time since I went to a restaurant & had zero complaints, this place was perfect. Highly recommend, but reserve in advance.View more
If you love meat but are tired of the barbequeue & steakhouse tropes, this is it. Duck in a can is a must, recommend any of the pork dishes. Was hoping the foie gras dumplings would be on the menu but it wasn't. Fantastic cocktails, recommend the moji-pho if you like spice. Our server was great, we asked to be seated outside but got moved inside once it got cold. Limited dessert selection if you don't like maple, but still very good.View more
We came to Montreal for the first time & this place was a highlight. From the starters to the main course was immaculate. We loved watching the chef & all the detail him & the others put into their food art was amazing & some of the best food we have had. We loved the recommendations we were provided & watching from the counter as they prepared each meal with quality. Would definitely recommend to others.View more
Came here for our anniversary dinner while visiting from New Hampshire.I was definitely excited to try this place as everything we have eaten in Montreal has been phenomenal. We'll the good eats stopped here.First the waiter was like Woody Harrelson on crack,it took a long time for my husband to get his drink order, the maple peanutbutter rice is yummy but an absolute joke in size & not worth more than 5usa dollars. We were going to order the duck in a can & thankfully I chose not to want to pay $68 for meat in a can we chose the meat in the clay pot for 2,as it was tasty some of the pieces of meat were very fatty or just a bone with no meat & a peice of sweet bread that looked like An American hamburger bun,it was actually laughable. We didn't bother with dessert as we got some at the metro station pastry shop that was absolutely amazing btw.Sherbrooke Metro to be exact,it was so good we went their the morning after for pastry & coffee & to our surprise they have Duck in a can for 39.99 & the owner of the metro pastry shop told us it is a high quality product he has imported from France. So we bought it from him & took it home.I also want to go back to the restaurant atmosphere, that was the worst part for me,it was like a chaotic mess, loud & not a relaxing atmosphere. As we left our hotel the morning after this ridiculous dinner we told the locals that run the hotel about this restaurant & they said they would never recommend that restaurant. TAKE IT FROM ME,NOT WORTH THE TIME OR MONEY,RUN!!!!!!!View more
This was truly one of the most remarkable dining experiences I've ever had! The tuna, freshly caught, was absolutely melt-in-your-mouth delicious, bursting with flavor. The foie gras parfait was a delightful treat that I doubt I'll ever replicate. & the duck sashimi? Oh my goodness, it was unbelievably good! As for the shepherd's pie, trust me when I say you've never had one like this before-so creamy & packed with incredible flavors. The restaurant is vibrant & bustling, with a lively atmosphere that can get quite loud, & the space is cozy. It runs like a well-oiled machine. We were seated at the bar overlooking the open kitchen, where the chef was truly impressive. She managed food prep, training, & everything seamlessly & calmly, which was amazing to witness. What an exceptional experience overall! I highly recommend this place if you don't mind the noise & the organized chaos. I rated the atmosphere a 4 due only due to the noise level & close quarters but I was conflicted because these things are also part of the charm, it was a fantastic experience! We will definitely go back.View more
I'm torn because this is some of the best food I have ever had in my life. The only problem is everything else such as the service & atmosphere was really, really, bad. Starting off with the good, the food here was amazing. Every single dish that we ordered blew our minds off. I'm not sure if they change their menu but I highly recommend the sweetbread, duck temaki, plogue a champlain, pork shank, & the salt & maple sugar fries. It was my second time having sweetbread & this was sooooo delicious. The duck temaki was the perfect ratio of rice & other ingredients. I loved the uniqueness of pouring your own yolk out of a small quail egg. The plogue a champlain came with a huge serving of foie gras & was amazing. I had nothing bad to say about any of the food we ate today. Definitely the best food we have had in Montreal so far! This is why it was so disappointing that I could not say the same about the service & restaurant itself. First, the tables at the back are super crammed. I could not get into my seat because the guy at the table besides me was literally touching my chair. Another patron saw me struggling & him & his wife moved my table forward for me just so I could sit down! Then when my mom sat in her chair, the lady at the table behind her came back from the washroom & couldn't get into her seat! She ranted something in French which I'm assuming wasn't positive about the tight space situation. When we first sat down we were greeted by a really nice server who was helpful & gave us great food suggestions. But then he rarely came back to check on us. I wanted to tell him how amazing the food was except, he never asked once we finished our courses! When I turned around I saw him bartending at the bar, so maybe he was both the server & bartender for the night? Maybe the restaurant was short staffed? I don't know, but the service was disappointing. So yes, my wine glass sat empty on the table & no one bothered to ask me if I would like another drink. When we finished our pitcher of water, another server took it away but didn't bring us a new one. When our water glasses sat empty for some time, I finally asked someone for another pitcher of water. & then, the strangest thing happened during the middle of dinner, where a guy took a Swiffer duster & started dusting the vents on top of everyone's heads while we were eating!! Me & a girl at the table across from me gave eachother a "what the F" look because we were bewildered they would not wait until later to do this? & I don't know why, but they kept trying to serve us other people's food!! Lol! This one poor guy brought us three dishes that weren't ours. So this is why I'm torn. I would absolutely die for the food here but I just wish the service was better.View more
My boyfriend took me here for my birthday dinner & just wow. We've been to our fair share of Montreal fine dining, & this was my favorite experience I've had yet. Both the food & atmosphere were incredible, I can't recommend this restaurant enough if you really want to impress your date, or just have a delicious meal full of complexity. It's hard to get a table, but 100% worth it. I can't wait to be back. Now for the details... Our waiter was fantastic in recommending which dishes to get. For appetizer, we tried their special of the night, which was uni, as well as duck tartare. The presentation/mode of delivery of both was phenomenal! The duck tartare was served in a nori wrap cone & had a quail egg yolk we got to pour in ourselves! The uni came in its shell & had a delicious, creamy sauce that was full of complexity. Then we split a creamy corn chanterelle (another special) & the pork shank, per our servers recommendation. I've never had pork this tender falling off the bone before! I was very impressed. As for the corn, it was one of the best dishes I've ordered at any Montreal restaurant, period. Which makes sense because we're deep into corn & chanterelle season, & you could tell they were both super fresh. I was a little worried that sharing only one main wouldn't be enough, but the portions are very sizable, especially with appetizers. For dessert, we tried the pouding chômeur with foie gras & cheddar. The savory salty strong flavor of foie gras complemented the sweet caramel so well in a way I was not expecting.View more
I'll start by saying this was the best service from a waitstaff that I've experienced. The dishes we choose were all 10/10 & I recommend you copy these items: cold tomato soup dish, scallops, tuna temaki, nigiri, halibut, saffron ice cream dessert. Writing them all out doesn't do it justice, they were all creative & perfect. I've reviewed 1000 restaurants & this place deserves 4.8+ stars. Really 5.0, but that's impossible when an establishment has 2k reviews. Thank you!View more
Incredibly overhyped. Staff was inattentive & somewhat dismissive. Scallops were gritty, which we informed our waiter about & they did nothing to rectify this issue when we paid. We opted to eat outside &, while the interior seemed quite lively, the exterior lacked any ambiance. We won't be returning, nor will we recommend this place to others.View more
service was excellent & food was exceptional. the foie gras nigiri is in the top 3 bites of food i've ever had. also highly recommend the Plogue à Champlain: it's like cabane à sucre on a plate!!!View more
Consistently one of the top restaurants in Montreal. Highly recommend.View more
Food was delicious as were our cocktails. Definitely a place we highly recommend.View more
Traveling from Alberta, we were recommended to try Au Pied de Cochons by three Montrealers to get a Quebecois experience. We splurged for an anniversary meal & ate duck tamaki, foie gras poutine, aged pork chop, & a special, the shrimp roll. It was too much food for only two of us. In retrospect, we could've split a main course. Everything we ate was rich, flavorful, & delicious. We left with full bellies & a fun experience watching the kitchen do its thing. The service was top notch. Definitely recommend but come hungry!View more
Our first visit to Au Pied de Cochon will not be our last. Despite a frantic & stressful atmosphere, the courteous staff & delicious food made it a memorable experience, reminiscent of a local Montreal pub. We had a 9 pm bar reservation, where we witnessed the sous chef & cooks skillfully prepare our Quebec fusion dishes. The wait staff ensured we were well-hydrated & comfortable, navigating us through the tight restaurant space to the discreet bathroom doors between the bars. The specialty of the day, the shrimp roll topped with melted foie gras & a sweet balsamic reduction, was incredible & our favorite dish. We hope it becomes a main menu item. We also enjoyed the foie gras nigiri, rotolo, & aged pork chop with a side of maple salted fries. While all dishes were rich, fresh, & hearty, the shrimp roll & fries stood out for us. Despite some reviews claiming Au Pied de Cochon is overrated or past its prime, we strongly recommend it to both tourists & locals for an elevated Québécois dining experience.View more
Food is great & I would highly recommend the foie Gras nigiri. Wait staff is excellent & explains everything. Very apologetic & hace is free shots when one dish was delayed (we honestly did not even notice). Front of the house did not feel as welcoming but once past that we had a great time!View more
With one exception, the food was fantastic. The foie gras poutine was off the charts delicious--totally worth the Bon Appetit assessment as one of the best poutines in Montreal. The halibut was perfectly done, the endive blue cheese salad was fresh & delightfully balanced, & the foie gras profiteroles would satisfy anyone enjoying this delicacy. The pork chop with morels & chanterelles, however, was tough & fatty. The dulce de leche lava cake was scrumptious; the pistachio profiteroles less so. The atmosphere was very lively & fun, & the staff clearly enjoyed great camaraderie with each other. The music got louder as the evening went on & it became too loud for us. The person who greeted us when we arrived was extremely warm & friendly. Our waiter, too, was very pleasant & helpful, including with recommendations about how much food to order & the wine. If we were only basing this service review on these two, we'd give 5 stars. But we did have a significant complaint that wasn't the waiter's fault--the service was incredibly slow. It took a long time to get our first course & then took VERY long in between courses--in one instance 45 minutes. We were seated at about 6:15 pm & did not finish until 10 pm. That was at least an hour longer than it should have been. Aside from the slow service, I'd definitely recommend Au Pied de Cochon for a delicious meal.View more
I booked the only reservation available, 10PM. The restaurant came recommended by a local & I was a bit wary at first given the numerous email reminders that we would be charged if we didn't show up. I was worried it would be stuffy & formal. I was very wrong. Lively atmosphere, friendly jovial service & really good food. It is known for its "duck in a can" entree which unfortunately I didn't try. But the foie gras profiteroles, bleu cheese salad & "fish & chips" were amazing. Highly recommend. The place was really cool!!!View more
Had an excellent experience here. My husband & I have had Au Pied de Cochon on our list for years & were excited to go when visiting Montreal with our 6 month old daughter. Unfortunately right before our reservation, something came up with our daughter & we had to reschedule. Despite reservations being booked weeks in advance, we texted the restaurant & the staff graciously rescheduled us to the following evening. They were incredibly accommodating given that we had our daughter in tow in the stroller. Every staff member we interacted with was kind & you can tell genuinely wanted to give us an excellent experience. & that's what we had! The food was perfectly coursed, balanced, & innovative. One of the best meals we have had & we will not hesitate to recommend Au Pied de Cochon to friends & family visiting Montreal!View more
Great dining experience & fantastic food. We were visiting Montreal for only a few days & honestly considered eating here more than once. 20/10 would recommend.View more
