From the second you enter the restaurant you are greeted by a friendly staff that seem to genuinely enjoy working at the restaurant. Our server, Gabrielle, was absolutely amazing & she was genuinely cheerful & described the menu beautifully. I went with the foie gras poutine & duck in a can & I learned that I love foie gras. The poutine was by far the best I've ever had amd the duck & foie gras was just amazing & had so many amazing flavors. I love this place & it's staff & would suggest to anyone to try it out!.View more

Absolutely outstanding! Jo, the bartender recommended several dishes that were simply as good as food gets, the duck maki cone was a very light & fresh start. Any of the cocktails will go down nicely, you can't go wrong. But as if that weren't enough, the star of the show was the Pdc dinner, like a very balanced & complex mac & cheese with fresh pasta, foie gras & lardons. You pair this with a blanche & you might as well be in heaven. Jo then surprised me with a'dessert' that easily could have been another main, more foie gras with buckwheat pancake, bacon, cheese & maple syrup?! This is what all dessert aspires to be. Do yourself a massive favor & see for yourself. I will be returning every chance I get. Lifelong customer!View more

The service was excellent, our server Annabelle was the sweetest. We had a scallop starter that was amazing & my husband had the tuna which was a special. I had the stuffed duck leg & it was very salty. 2 out of 3 were excellent, but we had a great time & would return. Great time & great energy.View more

Came here for our anniversary dinner while visiting from New Hampshire.I was definitely excited to try this place as everything we have eaten in Montreal has been phenomenal. We'll the good eats stopped here.First the waiter was like Woody Harrelson on crack,it took a long time for my husband to get his drink order, the maple peanutbutter rice is yummy but an absolute joke in size & not worth more than 5usa dollars. We were going to order the duck in a can & thankfully I chose not to want to pay $68 for meat in a can we chose the meat in the clay pot for 2,as it was tasty some of the pieces of meat were very fatty or just a bone with no meat & a peice of sweet bread that looked like An American hamburger bun,it was actually laughable. We didn't bother with dessert as we got some at the metro station pastry shop that was absolutely amazing btw.Sherbrooke Metro to be exact,it was so good we went their the morning after for pastry & coffee & to our surprise they have Duck in a can for 39.99 & the owner of the metro pastry shop told us it is a high quality product he has imported from France. So we bought it from him & took it home.I also want to go back to the restaurant atmosphere, that was the worst part for me,it was like a chaotic mess, loud & not a relaxing atmosphere. As we left our hotel the morning after this ridiculous dinner we told the locals that run the hotel about this restaurant & they said they would never recommend that restaurant. TAKE IT FROM ME,NOT WORTH THE TIME OR MONEY,RUN!!!!!!!View more

This was truly one of the most remarkable dining experiences I've ever had! The tuna, freshly caught, was absolutely melt-in-your-mouth delicious, bursting with flavor. The foie gras parfait was a delightful treat that I doubt I'll ever replicate. & the duck sashimi? Oh my goodness, it was unbelievably good! As for the shepherd's pie, trust me when I say you've never had one like this before-so creamy & packed with incredible flavors. The restaurant is vibrant & bustling, with a lively atmosphere that can get quite loud, & the space is cozy. It runs like a well-oiled machine. We were seated at the bar overlooking the open kitchen, where the chef was truly impressive. She managed food prep, training, & everything seamlessly & calmly, which was amazing to witness. What an exceptional experience overall! I highly recommend this place if you don't mind the noise & the organized chaos. I rated the atmosphere a 4 due only due to the noise level & close quarters but I was conflicted because these things are also part of the charm, it was a fantastic experience! We will definitely go back.View more

Wow! Came here with some friends on a recommendation from their friend in London. Did not disappoint! Menu is filled with decadent options, including fois gras poutine & duck in a can (it sounds gimmicky but is some of the best duck I've ever had!). Unfortunately they don't sell the duck in can to go 😂. Would absolutely come back.View more

I'm torn because this is some of the best food I have ever had in my life. The only problem is everything else such as the service & atmosphere was really, really, bad. Starting off with the good, the food here was amazing. Every single dish that we ordered blew our minds off. I'm not sure if they change their menu but I highly recommend the sweetbread, duck temaki, plogue a champlain, pork shank, & the salt & maple sugar fries. It was my second time having sweetbread & this was sooooo delicious. The duck temaki was the perfect ratio of rice & other ingredients. I loved the uniqueness of pouring your own yolk out of a small quail egg. The plogue a champlain came with a huge serving of foie gras & was amazing. I had nothing bad to say about any of the food we ate today. Definitely the best food we have had in Montreal so far! This is why it was so disappointing that I could not say the same about the service & restaurant itself. First, the tables at the back are super crammed. I could not get into my seat because the guy at the table besides me was literally touching my chair. Another patron saw me struggling & him & his wife moved my table forward for me just so I could sit down! Then when my mom sat in her chair, the lady at the table behind her came back from the washroom & couldn't get into her seat! She ranted something in French which I'm assuming wasn't positive about the tight space situation. When we first sat down we were greeted by a really nice server who was helpful & gave us great food suggestions. But then he rarely came back to check on us. I wanted to tell him how amazing the food was except, he never asked once we finished our courses! When I turned around I saw him bartending at the bar, so maybe he was both the server & bartender for the night? Maybe the restaurant was short staffed? I don't know, but the service was disappointing. So yes, my wine glass sat empty on the table & no one bothered to ask me if I would like another drink. When we finished our pitcher of water, another server took it away but didn't bring us a new one. When our water glasses sat empty for some time, I finally asked someone for another pitcher of water. & then, the strangest thing happened during the middle of dinner, where a guy took a Swiffer duster & started dusting the vents on top of everyone's heads while we were eating!! Me & a girl at the table across from me gave eachother a "what the F" look because we were bewildered they would not wait until later to do this? & I don't know why, but they kept trying to serve us other people's food!! Lol! This one poor guy brought us three dishes that weren't ours. So this is why I'm torn. I would absolutely die for the food here but I just wish the service was better.View more

A must visit in Montreal if you like foie gras! We had it in many forms when we visited. Individual pieces on sushi rice (aka foie gras nigiri), foie gras poutine, foie gras mapo tofu, & foie gras with the duck in a can! All were good but in particular the foie gras nigiri was the standout followed by the poutine.View more

A heartfelt thank you to Alex, Sous Chef James (I hope this name is correct. It was loud. He's from Saskatchewan. Makes a mean salt & maple sugar pomme frite) & the entire team. We had a fantastic evening at Au Pied de Cochon last night, due largely in part to their warmth & hospitality. **Sit at the bar if you dine here**. Watching this team work their tails off to serve us impeccably presented dishes elevated the experience in a way sitting at table wouldn't deliver & we greatly appreciated the front row seat & the time they took to interact with us. We enjoyed the foie gras nigiri, the infamous duck in a can, & the salt & maple sugar pomme frites. The restaurant boasts a great wine selection as well. Definitely order a side of the sourdough bread if you try the duck in a can to mop up all of the delicious sauce. The shots of jalapeno vodka & St-Germain proved to be a delightful surprise. We're contemplating a return visit to try the poutine, which stands apart from all the other poutine in Montreal in that the gravy is enhanced with fat from the foie gras. Thanks again, chefs.View more

This place! It was everything I hoped it was going to be. The food was KILLER, so much foie gras was consumed! The scallop dish was bursting with fresh flavours! The terrine was perfectly seasoned, & the maple butter was otherworldly with it! I'm a sucker for sweetbreads, & these did not disappoint. Not tough, just the right amount of fatty goodness! The pork chop was delicious, there was a very minor issue with the cook on it, which was promptly addressed & fixed! The service was absolutely impeccable!! I think the unexpected star of the show for.me was the guinea fowl ballontine! I found myself.picking up the leg & chewing all the meat off lol The duck tartare was another surprise hit! A first for me, the quail egg was a perfect sauce for this sushi inspired dish. The beignets were delicious little warm puffs of happiness, & the foie gras/white cheddar sticky pudding was unlike anything I've ever had. Sweet maple, sharp cheddar, & savory foie gras all melded together to make an outstanding & unforgettable dish. I would come back solely for this dish, but I can guarantee it wouldn't be the only one I'd order! Thank you for an evening that will not soon be forgotten!View more

My boyfriend took me here for my birthday dinner & just wow. We've been to our fair share of Montreal fine dining, & this was my favorite experience I've had yet. Both the food & atmosphere were incredible, I can't recommend this restaurant enough if you really want to impress your date, or just have a delicious meal full of complexity. It's hard to get a table, but 100% worth it. I can't wait to be back. Now for the details... Our waiter was fantastic in recommending which dishes to get. For appetizer, we tried their special of the night, which was uni, as well as duck tartare. The presentation/mode of delivery of both was phenomenal! The duck tartare was served in a nori wrap cone & had a quail egg yolk we got to pour in ourselves! The uni came in its shell & had a delicious, creamy sauce that was full of complexity. Then we split a creamy corn chanterelle (another special) & the pork shank, per our servers recommendation. I've never had pork this tender falling off the bone before! I was very impressed. As for the corn, it was one of the best dishes I've ordered at any Montreal restaurant, period. Which makes sense because we're deep into corn & chanterelle season, & you could tell they were both super fresh. I was a little worried that sharing only one main wouldn't be enough, but the portions are very sizable, especially with appetizers. For dessert, we tried the pouding chômeur with foie gras & cheddar. The savory salty strong flavor of foie gras complemented the sweet caramel so well in a way I was not expecting.View more

We looked forward to this religious & gastronomic experience for so long & thought we would lose it as we were caught in rainstorms, running up & down the streets trying to find this mecca. When we entered the door, 20 minutes late & "soaked" within 1 minute, we were at rest, like entering a loving friend's kitchen. The hostess reset our night instantly. Our waitress, server, & table attendant were the perfect narrators of this fabulous night. From urchin amuse bouche to duck in a can, the night was memorable as our favorite dining experience. We thank them all.View more

Au Pied de Cochon was our first stop in our visit to Montreal & it blew us away. It is a lively, busy spot, with great service & incredible food. Every dish we ordered is worth highlighting. Seasonal Tomato Soup: They had a few specials & we ordered most of them, including this dish. The soup was creamy & rich, with a bit of a fresh bite from the peppers. It was served on top of mushrooms, radish, & ceviche. Burrata on Sourdough: I cannot rave about this dish enough. The Burrata was described as being so fresh that it "never touched a fridge". I'm not sure it beats some of the burrata we've had in Italy, but good grief does it come close. The sourdough had a wonderful sourness to it that worked really well with the burrata. The caviar on top was a nice addition but honestly the other ingredients outshine it. Duck Tamaki: The presentation on this dish is almost as good as it tastes. The drizzle of egg on top of the duck was such a fun addition & it all tasted wonderful. Foie Nigiri: I'll be honest, I've had a lot of bad foie gras lately. It seems like many places take a slab of it, char it for ten seconds & then give you a cold lump of meat with bizarre textures. Because of this I was hesitant to order this dish, but it was highly recommended by other reviewers. & wow, we were blown away. It's always such a great experience when a (rather unassuming) place just executes a perfect little dish & gets you to change your mind about food. Mapo Tufo with Foie Gras: More foie gras. This is certainly not an authentic take on Mapo Tofu, & I would have liked a bit more heat/mala in the dish. But the pork sauce had an almost ragu-ness to it that was very tasty. & the foie was creamy & delicious. Seasonal Corn Dish: Another special, served with lobster mushrooms. Was a wonderfully refreshing end to the meal. Seasonal Cucumber drink: It they have this when you're there, get one, or two, or three. So refreshing & the perfect drink on what was an incredibly hot day. Don't forget to pick out the cucumber piece & eat it.View more

Overall we enjoyed the food, the service & the atmosphere. But there are definitely some areas that can be improved. Food: Foie gras poutine gravy was luke warm & not hot so the cheese curds were not melted, not even the least bit. After about 7 minutes or so, the last bites of the poutine were cold, not warm. They do give a lot of foie gras so value wise overall not bad. Duck in a can tasted good overall but the duck contained some tendon. Extremely hard to cut. I spent 3-4 minutes trying to slice the duck in order for it to be shared between two. It was a workout for my wrist. Eventually i got the piece that had the tendon & it was not chewable. Had to spit out the unchewable piece which was not what i was expecting from a $60 dish. That aside, the rest of the dish tasted great, & wasn't as heavy as others have commented which is a good thung. Service: good service overall but i wish more attention would have been made with our party's seafood allergy Despite putting the allergy on the reservation & advising the waitress ahead of ordering, it was only discovered after the plate was brought to our table & after we asked, was it confirmed that the appetizer special contained seafood. Ambiance: lively & laid back made for a great atmosphere. But i was taken aback when one of the workers would use a swifter right above all the guests & their food to remove what im guessing as dust/webs/mosquitoes from the ceiling. & then that same person came back a second time 30 mins later; what is accumulating up there every 30 mins? Bathroom location was odd. There are only two single stalls. Both require walking through where the bar staff is actively working to get to. There is zero signage. If the bathroom is occupied, & you could only tell by standing next to the bar staff & try to open the door, then you would have to wait in an area where you are in the way of the bar staff, the servers & the bussers. You would also be standing right next to where people are eating which is weird. We ended up just leaving instead of waiting. Especially since we heard another woman tell the server that one of the toilets wouldnt flush, bringing down the functional stalls from 2 to 1.View more

OK, so maybe we had our hopes set high. A couple of nights prior we had an outstanding experience at Garde Manger & had mentioned to our server there that we had reservations on our last night in Montréal at Au Pied de Cochon & she said it would be spectacular so we were pretty excited. But... We decided to just order two mains & sparkling water (total $146 before tip), the Duck in a Can & the fowl as we had planned to have a delightful meal & head back to the hotel to pack up for an early start tomorrow. Then came the wait. We chatted about the pleasant ambience & engertic vibe & well as the hustle of the staff in anticipation of the arrival of our food. Then twenty minutes passed, forty minutes passed, fifty minutes...& our server came by to apologize for the wait & said it would be another 5 minutes (it was more than 10). During this time, one of the staff kept walking up & down by the tables with a Swiffer wiping the vents located on the bulkhead over the tables, presumably to prevent condensation from the air vents from dripping down onto the patrons & their food. I cannot say if there was any dust that could have been dislodged as well... Finally, over one hour after ordering, our food arrived. The food was decent but not the amazing experience we were anticipating. I will say my fowl was tender & tasty. My wife's Duck in a Can was also tasty but parts of the duck were a bit rubbery (maybe it's supposed to be that way?). Having worked in the food industry in the past, we can understand when a place has an off night. But if patrons have to wait as long as we did one would think that the staff, albeit friendly, would try to do better than a weak apology & a promise to do better next time to make up for it. Hopefully this was a one off experience & others fared better this evening.View more

Came here after having it suggested to me a few times. We made a reservation about a week in advance & just managed to get one at 9:30 on a Saturday, so if you're planning on coming to this restaurant I would suggest booking farther ahead of time. Our server was top class, her drink & food recommendations were based on her extensive knowledge of the menu & we appreciated that so much. The food was incredibly rich & had many complimentary flavours - the foie gras terrine with the maple butter being a standout in that regard. The oysters were perfectly balanced & fresh, & the beef tongue was decadent. For our mains, we ordered the pork shank & the duck in a can. Both were fantastic. The only complaint I have is that the food is a bit too rich, & we definitely would've benefited from some more vegetables (unfortunately they were sold out of the charred lettuce appetizer by the time we had got in). If you're looking for an authentic Quebecois meal while in Montreal, this is the place!View more

The food takes some time to arrive, but the wait is definitely worth it! The duck foie gras poutine was clearly perfected & had gravy which was not too sweet or salty. The fries were crispy, but not burnt & the foie gras was perfect when eaten together. The canned duck was also a really good & well thought of dish. It comes in a can, like the name suggests, & with bread too. When eaten together, the canned duck tastes amazing, while not being too salty. If you're thinking about ordering a lot of food, you should order about 1 dish for every 2 people, as the dishes we ordered were very, very filling (thanks to the waiter for telling us!) The service was very amazing, as well. They were always friendly, & ready to help, but never felt annoying & in your face. Finally, the space felt very cozy, small, & well laid out. This restaurant is recommended by me!View more

Traveling from Alberta, we were recommended to try Au Pied de Cochons by three Montrealers to get a Quebecois experience. We splurged for an anniversary meal & ate duck tamaki, foie gras poutine, aged pork chop, & a special, the shrimp roll. It was too much food for only two of us. In retrospect, we could've split a main course. Everything we ate was rich, flavorful, & delicious. We left with full bellies & a fun experience watching the kitchen do its thing. The service was top notch. Definitely recommend but come hungry!View more

We began with a glass of wine & three appetizers - scallops with basil & melon, the blue cheese salad, & the potato au gratin cheddar & bacon fois gras plate. All were exceptional & delicious & better than expected. Next, we had the Fois Gras Nigiri which was eaten fast but each bite was savored-a great portion, too! Our main course was next! We got the halibut, duck in a can, & the pork shank. All the portions were great however, the pork shank was more than enough, & we didn't finish that sadly. Although it was scrumptious. The sauce that accompanied it was delicious & so were the lentils. The halibut was fresh surrender by seasonal vegetables & caught in the wild. The duck in the can was consistent & delicious & is one of the staples on the menu, you can't go wrong here. Dessert was the traditional Quebec maple bread pudding which I could've had seconds! It's the best dessert you can get in the province of Quebec especially if you're a maple fiend like we are. C+ for seating us across from the bathroom & near screaming babies, otherwise everything was an A+.View more

With sophisticated & inventive Quebec fare, Au Pied de Cochon has a well-deserved reputation as a top-notch restaurant. Both the food & service were first rate without being stuffy or formal. The weather was perfect & we were able to sit outside on the patio. Our waitress, Lauri, was very friendly &, while a native French speaker, also spoke excellent English. We started off with a couple of drinks - my companion has a fantastic cocktail made with jasmine-infused vodka, orange blossom syrup & triple sec. I had a classic Quebec-made cider (crisp & dry), great balance, aroma & flavor. After two superb entrees - duck temaki & plogue de champlain - our plats principals did not disappoint in the least. My companion had the well-known conserve de canard or canned duck which was even better than expected. I tried an intriguing dish that was new to the menu - tripe with mushrooms - & found it to be tender & absolutely delicious. As we were sipping our after dinner drinks, a street performer began singing traditional French chansons while accompanying herself on the accordion. A great night!View more
