I came here in search of true rich & thick French hot chocolate. While the hot chocolate I found here was close, it wasn't exactly what I was looking for. Other than that, the service was very nice & polite, I smelled wonderful smells from the kitchen, & the atmosphere was pleasant & lively.
My partner & I came here for breakfast a few weeks ago & were blown away by everything from the scalloped potatoes (Patates Dauphinois?), & the drinks! Hands down the best hot chocolate I've ever had, period (must try). The portions are ideal, & everything on the menu has been perfected. Can't wait to come again!
Coming to Montreal for three years every few months timing has never lined up until yesterday for a visit to Au Festin de Babette...It was truly worth the wait. I've always been drawn to it's curb appeal & signage alone. It delivered. Full force. My Husband, four year old & I were bewitched. The hot chocolate is decadent; thick, rich, creamy, & actually tastes like something other than just sugar. Our Server was not only charming but guided us with joy & passion through the tasting notes of the different Hot Chocolates like a true Gourmand. The food was sinfully delicious & a lesson in Brunch executed to perfection. Our savory waffles were a perfect balance of indulgence & actual nutrition- fresh vegetables, rich sauce & accoutrements without drowning you in it. The beet cream on my goat cheese waffle was sweet, unexpected, & truly delightful. I would give anything to have this cafe as my neighbor back home. The chef knew the perfect balance of teasing you with delightful flavors & portions that left you celebrating your plate versus being a glut. I (we) cannot wait to return to what I would dub Montreal's best hot chocolate, & a case study in unpretentious culinary genius. xo
Delicious crepes & hot chocolate in a charming & elegant atmosphere! Friendly & prompt service.
Kind & attentive staff. High quality dark hot chocolate, several options up to 85% (very high quantity of chocolate). Gratin daupinois is superb. Worth every buttery calorie. Savory crepe forestierre/mushrooms filled with mushrooms, not skimpy. Chocolate waffle also excellent.
We went early on a Sunday, a bit after they opened, & there were plenty of seats available. The servers were nice & friendly. The interior is cute, with nice details & decoration here & there. They want you to think of French cafes when you are there, & they achieve it. Overall the menu has plenty of good options to choose from We ordered a brunch combo & two crepes. The combo was great, the sweet crepe (chocolate & pear) was also good, but the savory crepe felt really dry & it was difficult to finish. It really needed some sauce in there to make it easier to eat... Pesto, oil, mayo, cream cheese... anything would have helped. We also ordered two hot chocolates (babbete & chai chocolates I think) & they were REALLY good! ☕
Came here for lunch with some friends on a Sunday - it was nice that they had available spots so we didn't have to wait in line. The outdoor patio is perfect during the summer. After we were seated, staff kept coming around our table to get our order when we already asked multiple times for additional time to look at the menu. I find the service to be rather questionable - they weren't even busy but they forgot my iced latte order, & was only brought over after I was halfway done with my meal. I also asked for more water for our table but they also forget & we never got our water refill. The hot chocolate is delicious, however I found the waffles to be somewhat just'okay'.
Charming little retro cafe with a Parisian vibe. The coffee is great but the food is very mediocre. The service is very slow & not the friendliest but not rude. I would come here for coffee & hot chocolate but definitely skip the food.
I really needed to use a restroom 🚻 & the person told me I didn't need to buy anything but I did anyways. Best hot chocolate I ever had in my life. Buy the hot chocolate for a very rich experience. Out of this world .
I had the most charming experience at Au Festin de Babette in Le Plateau neighborhood! The vintage decor transported me to a different era, creating a warm & inviting atmosphere that felt like a cozy escape from the hustle & bustle of modern life.
The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the hot chocolate - a nostalgic delight that tasted just like the one my grandma used to make. It was rich, creamy, & filled with comforting flavors that instantly brought back cherished memories. The crepes were another treat, perfectly cooked & offering a delightful combination of textures & flavors.
Beyond the scrumptious food & drinks, the overall ambiance & attentive service made this visit truly special. Au Festin de Babette is a hidden gem that manages to capture the essence of both quality & nostalgia, creating an experience that I will undoubtedly treasure & return to for more of that heartwarming indulgence.
