Chefs and co-owners Richard and Jérémie Bastien, behind Monarque and Le Mitoyen, are unveiling their newest project: Les Jardins du Monarque. Located in Sainte-Dorothée on ancestral land, the initiative aims to make their restaurants self-sufficient in vegetables and herbs by relying on local and sustainable farming practices.
Developed with a bio-intensive and permaculture-inspired approach, the project includes 1.7 acres of cultivated land, three electrically heated greenhouses for year-round production, and more than forty varieties of vegetables and small fruits. Distribution is limited to within 30 km of the site and follows organic farming regulations.
For the Bastien family, this project is both a return to their roots and a natural extension of their culinary vision. Each harvest directly influences the menus at Monarque and Mitoyen, ensuring exceptional freshness and strengthening the connection between the land and the plate.
Monarque in Old Montreal and Le Mitoyen in Laval are two landmark restaurants that embody the Bastien family's culinary heritage.
