Excellent ramen spot that consistently delivers both quality & atmosphere. Yokato Yokabai has a really authentic feel from the moment you walk in, with a cozy & lively setting that adds to the overall experience. The ramen itself is outstanding, rich, flavorful broth, perfectly cooked noodles, & well-prepared toppings that all come together really well. You can tell a lot of care goes into each bowl. The menu offers a good variety, so there's something for everyone whether you like something lighter or more rich & hearty. Service is efficient & friendly, even when it gets busy, which it often does for good reason. Overall, a must-visit if you're craving high-quality ramen in Montreal.

Went to Yokato Yokabai Ramen with 2 others. Expect a long wait (2-3 hours)-the website is misleading since it's basically always busy. Best move is to put your name down & come back later.

Inside is very cramped-small, wobbly tables, & no clear jacket rack (if there was one, it wasn't obvious & no one offered it), so you end up keeping your coat on & it gets hot quickly.

Food was good but not amazing, especially for the wait. They also forgot our drink, which took a while to arrive.

Overall, decent ramen, but not really worth the long wait & tight space.

Amazing Ramen! Very tasty! Everyone loved the ramen soups , we also ordered the pork sidedish which was good, but less unanimous. Atmosphere was very cosy & interesting … we felt like the time spent there in that space, we were transported in different world than Montreal… Line Up is quite busy, but the SMS-based waitlist approach is pretty useful & works well!

Great food. Very welcoming & acommodating staff. We'll return.

PS: noon time is really busy, count on 15-20 minutes wait time if party greater than 2. The wait is worthed, no doubts!

The photo is for chicken ramen with thick noodles. & a couple of add-ons.

I had the vegetarian broth, thin noodles (fresh), vegetables (comes with tofu), less salty, more green onion, whole egg, seaweed with a cup of tea. It was great & the portion was perfect ! So fresh tasting. It is a bit warm rather than hot so drinking tea with it gives an extra heat boost. The place is usually busy so I got there right when it opened. They seated me in a nice wooden bench area & I felt really comfortable listening to the music & chilling out. The waiter was cool, helpful & polite. I'd come back to try other options

I've been here many times before, but I've been compelled to leave a review this time as it does deserve it. After being introduced to authentic delicious Japanese restaurants in Vancouver area with local friends who kept saying its as close as you can get to Japan. In November that couple came to visit Montreal & Yokato Yokabai was on my list of restaurants to share with them. They were pleasantly surprised as I was again. we had reservations but we still needed to wait for our table to be ready, to be expected on a busy Saturday night. Thanks again to the staff for a great experience!

While it is very busy & the wait is long if you go during their busy time, they have a system & it works & they're nice & the food is excellent. You don't feel rushed or anything. Loved the food!

Always was & still one of the best ramen spots in town if not the best. On par with what I ate in Japan. Only downside is.. it's always busy & they don't take reservations. Drinks were nothing extraordinary. Would stick to the basics : ramen

delicious ramen place in Montreal. The ramen soup was full of rich, & thick. The karaake chicken is really good, perfectly crispy & seasoned. I really love the kakigori shaved ice with matcha cream & strawberry sauce, good combination. Its a bit busy, we waited there around 45 mins but not so bad. You can go in & reserve your spot in front of the house & they will text you when the table is ready

My stars say it all! Question (that I should have asked while there but the staff was so busy, I didn't want to be a bother) what is the topping on the takoyaki? It was visually amazing & very tasty, but I didn't know whatbI was eating! Excellent experience & delicious cusine!

Yokato Yokabai Ramen is definitely one of the best ramen place in Montreal. Their ramen is super delicious & the prices are reasonable. Service is great as well. I also love their karaage & edamame beans. They also have a bar section to grab a beer/drinks with friends/coworkers. Would easily recommend this restaurant. Only con : it's often busy so might have to wait for a table.

I visited Yokato Yokabai for the first time on a chilly, rainy Saturday afternoon with a friend, & it turned out to be a cozy, unforgettable experience. The restaurant's vibe immediately set a welcoming tone-its intimate setting, with warm lighting & beautiful Japanese wall murals complemented by wooden accents, made it feel like stepping into a little slice of Japan. Since it was early & only the ramen bar was open, we had to wait about 40 minutes for a seat, but it was well worth it. We were seated right in front of the chefs, which was a treat as we watched them skillfully prepare the ramen.

Stay tuned for my video review on TikTok (@Foxy.appetite) & Instagram (@Foxyappetite)!

In depth review:

To start, we shared the pork gyoza with a peanut sauce, which had a perfect balance of flavors-crispy & savory with a little sweetness from the sauce. But the real star of the meal was the ramen. I opted for the torikotsu, which is a chicken broth ramen with thin noodles & chicken teriyaki as my protein. My friend went for the tonkotsu, which featured a rich pork broth with tender slices of pork & thin noodles. Both dishes were exceptional, with each bite bursting with flavor. The broth was so comforting, rich without being overwhelming, & the noodles were perfectly cooked.

There was a water jug on our table, but the menu didn't mention any drinks, so we weren't sure if we needed to ask specifically for something else. We weren't offered any additional beverages, which left us wondering if this was the usual practice.

To top it off, there was a special deal-ramen & a yuzu panna cotta dessert for just $25, which felt like an amazing value. The panna cotta was smooth & subtly tangy, a perfect way to end the meal.

Though the space was a bit tight, it added to the charm, & it was clear this is a place where people come together to enjoy great food & a relaxed atmosphere.

In the end, Yokato Yokabai is a hidden gem in Montreal's Plateau neighborhood. Whether you're craving a bowl of ramen on a cold day or just looking for a cozy spot to unwind, this place delivers authentic, comforting Japanese food at an excellent price. I'll definitely be back, but during a less busy traffic time when all the rooms are open.

Excellent Ramen! The Gyoza were also delicious. The place is awesome also! When you walk in it looks tiny but once you walk in you'll be surprised, the atmosphere is relaxed. A cool place for a night out with friends.
We however showed up with our toddler & even then they really looked after us.
The server was lovely, she was just really busy so it took time to get to us. Its not a big deal she was very helpful every time.
I do recommend this place its delicious

It was very busy when we got there. Waited 25 minutes to sit down in a dark corner. The vegetarian ramen we ordered tasted okay.

Ramen was good, but it could be better. The sides are nice touch. Go early. It can get busy.

A no frills, down to business ramen joint. It's busy & even though I arrived early as a party of 1 around 5pm I was seated at a bar. I felt like the portion was a little small for the price but I really enjoyed the flavor & the service was great.

Really enjoyed the experience! The food was worth the wait, Saturday night is vey busy. We took the Kaarage (fried chicken) & the Chashu Don (Braised Pork rice) & Ramen soups that are personalized to your liking. Oh & do take the lemon ice cream. Service was quick & courteous. It felt like we were transported in Japan, sitting at the bar, looking at the chefs making their magic!

Best ramen in Montreal. Don't walk run. Gets very busy so don't go with a big party on peak times. Get the miso cod & the ramens!
