Review Summary

Reviews paint Yokato Yokabai Ramen as a busy, cramped but authentic spot where a rich, customizable ramen experience sits at the center of the appeal. The broths, especially tonkotsu and torikotsu, are repeatedly described as savory, creamy, and deeply flavored, with homemade noodles that hold up to toppings like pork, chicken, or vegan options; karaage and takoyaki are frequent favorites on the side. The atmosphere is described as cozy and authentic Japanese with a lively vibe, though the space is small, chilly near the door, and noisy during peak hours. A popular text-based waitlist system helps manage queues but wait times can stretch, sometimes making the meal feel pricey for the portion size or the level of service. Service quality ranges in reviewers' eyes from warm and attentive to slow or inconsistent, contributing to a sense that the place is excellent when it shines but not always flawless. Value is debated: some call it the best ramen in Montreal and worth the crowd and cost, while others feel the hype and Michelin connection have inflated expectations and that the experience does not always match the price. The restaurant also offers vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-aware options, and a cocktail program adds to the scene, but overall opinions converge on a standout, highly flavorful ramen that pays off for many despite the caveats of popularity and pace.

Visited with my group from out of town & this was quite possibly one of the best Tonkotsu Ramen dishes I've had in all of North America. The ability to make selections of toppings is fun & customizable. The broth was rich & delicious. The only criticism is I would have preferred a properly braised chashu for the price point but the rest of the dish genuinely made up for this. Almost went back the next day for seconds. Ps. Get the spicy Karaage, you won't be disappointed.

Food tasted great & service was perfect. Only downside is that I felt sick a few hours later, & so did my girlfriend. Read other reviews of customers also getting food poisoning from this restaurant. I had the Pork Tonkotsu Ramen on Jan 16th 2024

Plusieurs passages chez Yokato & nous n'avons jamais trouvé de meilleur Tonkotsu ! & ce n'est pas faute d'avoir cherché. Les takoyaki sont également délicieux. Ambiance super !

I was here for solo lunch. I arrived around 12pm & sat at the bar. Not too busy at that time but did start to get busy while I was eating. Love this place - food ambience service - will be back next time I am in Montreal. I had the Korokke (potato croquette) starter which came in an order of 2. Crunchy on the outside & buttery soft on the inside garnished with thinly julienned carrots green scallion bits & topped with a tangy yummy sauce. The main I had was the Tonkotsu (pork broth) ramen with thin noodles & pork shoulder topped with scallion seaweed & with a half marinated ramen egg (ajitama). Condiments provided on the side included benishoga (thin strips of pickled ginger) & chili oil, also sesame seeds. I haven't seen these provided at other ramen restaurants before & will surely ask for them - makes such a difference brings out the flavours ! The broth was superb. Creamy not too salty. The noodles were just the right amount of chewy. The pork shoulder was fresh & perfectly seasoned. Everything was generously portioned. The restaurant interior felt like I was in Japan somewhere, not Montreal. Staff were super friendly. My favourite ramen resto too bad they are not in Toronto! Will be back also yo try sister restaurant (next door same building) Ichigo Ichie for Japanese tapas & cocktails).

The presentation, atmosphere, & service was great. Might've been a bad day but the flavour was lacking for the Tonkotsu & the Torikotsu. The chashu was also not how I would've expected it.
Did enjoy the Chicken Karaage.
If you're really craving soup it will get the job done.
