Yen Cuisine Japonaise used to be a real hidden gem. I loved this place & went regularly from 2021 to 2024 with great experiences every time. Unfortunately, the only two times I went in 2025, I got horribly sick afterward. It's really disappointing, especially given how consistently good it used to be. I hope this was a temporary issue, but based on my recent visits, I can't recommend it right now.
Had foie gras with bbq eel on rice … definitely a 5 star dish, highly recommended.
C'est un de mes restaurants japonais préférés à Montréal. & à deux pas du Musées des Beaux-Arts & de la Salle de concerts Bourgie. Je recommande sans hésiter! Juste un petit sourire & un merci lorsque nous quittons le restaurant seraient appréciés.

Absolutely exceptional experience at YEN Cuisine Japonaise! From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was calm, elegant, & inviting. The service was warm & attentive without being intrusive - a perfect balance.
The food? Simply outstanding. Every dish was beautifully presented & packed with authentic Japanese flavor. The sushi was incredibly fresh, the ramen rich & flavorful, & the attention to detail in every bite was clear. You can tell they take real pride in their craft.
Whether you're a longtime fan of Japanese cuisine or trying it for the first time, YEN is a must-visit. A perfect blend of tradition & modern refinement. Highly recommend - we'll definitely be back!
Very good & authentic Japanese restaurant. We had their recommended dishes which were delicious. If you're looking for a real Japanese experience downtown Montreal go there
2 ième visite pour nous. Encore très satisfaits! Mes nouilles Soba étaient juste incroyables. Aussi très satisfait par les entrées (tartare saumon, poulet frit). La miso était succulente. Nous avons trouvé le nori barasgirashi & un poké contenant de l'oursin manquaient un peu de saveur. Par contre le vin aux prunes fut une découverte mémorable. Je recommande !
Service is fast & the food is really good! The ambiance is also super pleasant. Love this place & would definitely recommend it :) The only downside is that when you leave, your clothes tend to smell like food.

Du service jusqu'à l'assiette, rien n'a été déplaisant. Les poke bowl sont excellents pour le même prix que dans d'autres enseignes bien moins qualitatives. Les portions étaient très correctes & la qualité des produits étaient très bonne! Le rapport qualité prix est parfait.
I decided to stop by this place because it looked promising & I'm so happy I did! It's a cute tucked away sort of place that is unassuming from the outside but so cozy inside. The music was upbeat & poppy & the menu selection was fantastic. The fish is fresh & delicious. It was so good I messaged a friend about it right away. I highly recommend you try this place.
Their foie gras salmon sushi is to die for!! :)) Nice staff, super fresh sushi, & cozy atmosphere. Highly recommend!!

The food is mediocre. I ordered the Tenzaru Soba. Except the shrimp, rest of the tempura are not crispy at all. Will not recommend.
Awful quality sushi rice + mediocre quality fish cuts = very underwhelming
The tempura that we ordered was not even crispy (beside the shrimp, which makes us wonder if the shrimp was semi-precooked unlike the other vegetables, you can clearly see that the batter used are different)
The platting may seem nice but would not recommend.

This is an absolutely amazing restaurant! The ingredients are incredibly fresh, & everything we tried was exceptional. The foie gras & eel rice was absolutely delicious & so satisfying. The sashimi was unbelievably fresh with a perfect texture-simply top-notch! The salad was also very tasty & well-balanced. On top of the incredible food, the service was outstanding. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a truly delightful dining experience.
J'ai adoré mon expérience au Yen. Une très belle découverte. J'ai été bien accueilli & chaque plat ont été soigneusement préparé. Je recommande fortement ce restaurant japonais.
