I rarely write reviews unless the experience is truly exceptional, (either very good or very bad). Unfortunately, this one falls firmly into the latter.
I went to Vasconia for lunch today & the food was extremely disappointing. It arrived cold, the pork & the rice were dry, & my daughter ordered beef but was served pork instead. I was making an effort to eat my dish by asking the server for extra sauce, but my daughter could not eat her dish at all because of the poor quality of it. After some bites, I also had to stop eating.
I told the server the situation & said that, since I had already eaten part of my plate, I was willing to pay for one dish but not for both. To our surprise, the server reacted very aggressively. He raised his voice, pointed his finger at us, & began yelling that we had to pay for both dishes before leaving. His reaction was completely disproportionate & extremely unprofessional.
He also said he would call his manager, & we repeatedly asked him to do so because I also wanted to speak with him. Instead of doing it, he continued yelling at us for a while.
He eventually called his boss, who must have realized how badly we were treated while listening his employee still yelling at us when I corrected him on a false comment he made on the phone, (stating we had eaten half of our plates). The manager finally said we could leave without paying & then the server told us to leave, still in a hostile tone.
In all my years dining out, I have never been treated in such an aggressive & disrespectful manner in a restaurant. What should have been a simple conversation about poor food quality escalated into a completely unacceptable confrontation that I still find hard to believe.
It is disappointing to see how much this restaurant has declined. It used to be a good place years ago. Unfortunately, after this experience, I will never return & I will not recommend it to anybody.
Additional comments: By reading comments below, I saw that more than 2 customers mentioned their meal was heated in teh microwave...this was the case for us too!!
I spent 30$ & 45 minutes of my time at this place to learn that I will never go here again
Food oversalted, way overpriced & takes forever to be heated up in a microwave. No thanks.
Bon service-Bonne pâtisserie-Bon Café-Bon service! 🙏 🇨🇴
If you haven't been to Vasconia Boulangerie on Saint Denis yet, you're seriously missing out! This charming spot is a true gem in Montreal's Le Plateau, offering some of the freshest, most delicious breads & pastries you'll find in the city. The cozy atmosphere & friendly staff make every visit a delight.
But here's the real showstopper: their alfajor is hands down one of the best in town! Soft, perfectly sweet, & filled with luscious dulce de leche, it's a must-try for anyone with a sweet tooth craving an authentic Latin American treat. Pair it with their rich coffee or fresh natural juices, & you've got a winning combo.
Whether you're grabbing a quick coffee, studying, or indulging in a leisurely pastry break, Vasconia Boulangerie delivers consistently excellent quality & warm vibes. Highly recommended for locals & visitors alike who want to taste a slice of Montreal's vibrant bakery scene with a delicious twist!
I ordered a pan de bonno, which was tasty. It was pricey though for the size.
Amazing atmosphere & great attention from the owners, super kind & welcoming, food was all amazing & authentic, tamales were perfect. This place definitely became among my favorite places for Colombian food
As a tourist from England, I naturally find myself exploring various restaurants & coffee shops while staying in Montreal.
But ever since discovering this place, I've been coming here almost every day-whether to catch up with friends or simply to enjoy a coffee & a bite to eat.
I'm fairly certain that, like me, once you experience Café Vasconia, it'll become one of those rare spots you simply can't overlook.
Not just about the reasonable prices or the excellent quality of their food & drinks-it's the warm, welcoming atmosphere & the genuine kindness of the Chef that truly set it apart.
Easily a 10/10 in my books.
5 étoiles d'or 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Really great spot to study, great coffee, & the cheese bread is amazing. I would highly recommend for students!
This place is lovely, the service is excellent. We went with my husband craving for Colombian tamales & they were delicious, the hot chocolate, almohabanas & pandebonos were also tasty. Hamid is really kind & his service was outstanding. We will definitely come back in our next trip to Montreal ♥️
If you want to try a Colombian tamal, this is the place for it! Their sweet & salty treats are delicious. I especially loved the cheese empanadas. The salpicón was also very tasty. The server was very good at answering questions & explaining things. I love that you can get panela instead of sugar. It's a nice place for brunch or to read a book!
