Last Friday night , the Marianne Trudel Trio was superb in their interpretation of Jobim's music. Ms. Trudel's improvisational skill is remarkably subtle & nuanced & the bluesy rifts she did brought down the house. As a New Yorker who hosts a jazz show & teaches jazz in film in New York City, this performance was the top of the line, exceptional in all aspects of the genre. Please give us more of the talent !! & to add she cut a finger on the keys , left the stage for four minutes as Etienne & Sacha played on & then returned to finish the piece & the set. Remarkable. The music was great! My salmon plate, however, wasn't that great. Very basic vegetables & salmon with plain white rice. It definitely wasn't worth paying $20+ for, & the portion was so small that I was still hungry & ate again at home. The service was super slow but the waitresses really did their best to make everyone happy & I appreciated it 😊 still a must visit!View more

Great service. Our waiter was attentive but not intrusive. Food was fantastic. We heard the Jazz students from McGill. All of the bands put on great shows. You definitely need to make reservations. It was packed. There's no room for walk-ins. Leave a message; they really do call you back. The tacos were great! Oh & I don't know what they made their fries from, but they were delicious.View more

I'm awarding 5 stars mainly because of my numerous visits over the years, starting back in 2016. The ambiance has consistently been exceptional, & the staff is great.
I gave a two-star rating for the service based only on today's experience over the phone. Despite two attempts to cancel my reservation, I couldn't get through as the line seemed busy. Finally, I managed to connect with Upstairs around 6:30 PM. Unfortunately, the person who took my call showed unprofessionalism, questioning my earlier attempts to cancel. I felt their frustration & disappointment regarding my cancellation.
However, I didn't cancel because I wanted to. Earlier today, a family member tested positive for Covid. I tried explaining the situation to the person, but I encountered some rude behaviour. I genuinely wish I could have reached Upstairs sooner to avoid this unpleasant situation. It's possible that the person on the phone had a tough & stressful day, which may have contributed to their unprofessional behaviour. I find it hard to believe that an experience like today's could be associated with such a fantastic place like Upstairs.View more

Didn't really get to experience the food or drinks there as we went when it was really packed. There was an amazing jazz band playing & we enjoyed the show but from standing near the door as all tables were taken up. In their defense, you probably have to reserve a table much in advance as the place isn't that big to accommodate too many tables.
