If you're looking for a cozy spot to hear jazz then you have to visit Upstairs. Make sure to make a reservation which was easy online. & then get ready for a very intimate jazz club with great food. & of course great drinks. I sat at the bar & had a great time with the server while listening to a really good jazz sextet playing mostly original music.
Music almost every night a week I think….& always changing.

My wife & I have been going to the Upstairs Jazz Bar & have enjoyed the food, ambience & great jazz for many years. The intimate atmosphere of this iconic jazz club is perfectly suited for both traditional & modern jazz bands to play in. Excellent food & a great bar along with great service contribute to very pleasant & enriching dinner & jazz evenings!

We thoroughly enjoyed the performance. The singer had an incredible voice, & her wit & humor added a delightful touch. The band complemented her energy perfectly. The food was also excellent. However, if you're planning a reunion or a first date, this bar might not be the ideal spot unless you're planning to spend some time there before or after the show. We initially thought it was a restaurant with jazz music enhancing the experience, but it turns out it's more of a performance venue. We were advised to enjoy the show with minimal interaction & to communicate quietly.View more

Really cool local spot, highly recommend. It was packed & a reservation is an absolute MUST but the jazz music was incredible. I love the swanky atmosphere in the bar area too, I recommend reserving bar seats or seats up front for the best experience of the music. We didn't eat but the food looked & smelled delicious. We were in Montreal for four nights & had planned to hear some music & eat some good food in the dead of winter. I found Upstairs Jazz online & it looked amazing. We booked for dinner & the early show, & it could not have been a more wonderful evening! We sat at the end of the bar closest to the stage for a 6:15 dinner reservation & the 7:00 pm show. Ate our dinner & then turned our chairs around to have the best seats in the place for what was a truly incredible 75 minute set of wonderful jazz. I would recommend Upstairs Jazz Bar & Grill to anyone wishing for an authentic music experience in a small venue like it used to be.View more

The musicians are top flight & the club' s reputation is such that its the only off-site location for the prestigious Montreal International Jazz Festival. It is a quaint location with great atmosphere!! It reminded me of the Smokey jazz bars that once held Oscar Peterson & other jazz greats. The staff were so friendly especially the bartender who made a julep that tasted like a creamsicle. The beverages were great but the food....not so much. But the flamingo jazz made up for the food. We found Upstairs while searching for live Jazz in Montréal. It was a spontaneous drop in & we found seats at the bar but recommend reservations especially if a well known group is performing. This is a venue for the Montréal Jazz Festival held annually late June/early July. We shared a salad & a bottle of red wine both of which were fine. Can't comment on the mains, but I'd definitely return to try a dinner & a jazz night. The cover was very reasonable at around twelve dollars per person.View more

Omg! Upstairs Jazz Bar & Grill is one of its kind that I've been to in recent times. If you stood outside you wouldn't know how sweet the activities going on inside & you wouldn't know the excellent service they offer. I was there two nights consecutively because we enjoyed our first night show which was free but we went the next evening so we could pay & enjoy some meals & we enjoyed ourselves. What a wonderful spot. As an Australian I appreciated a place called " Upstairs " where the sign was upside down & the bar is downstairs . I felt like Anelie Poulon herself when I cracked the creme brulee with my spoon . It was light sweet & divinely sensual as I savoured every spoonful. The place was packed with people living the music & the band was on fire ! Staff also were great even able to handle a non French speaking lad like me . Recommended !View more
