If you're looking for a cozy spot to hear jazz then you have to visit Upstairs. Make sure to make a reservation which was easy online. & then get ready for a very intimate jazz club with great food. & of course great drinks. I sat at the bar & had a great time with the server while listening to a really good jazz sextet playing mostly original music.
Music almost every night a week I think….& always changing.

My wife & I have been going to the Upstairs Jazz Bar & have enjoyed the food, ambience & great jazz for many years. The intimate atmosphere of this iconic jazz club is perfectly suited for both traditional & modern jazz bands to play in. Excellent food & a great bar along with great service contribute to very pleasant & enriching dinner & jazz evenings!
Joel Giberovitch is an outstanding owner & host who has been serving the Montreal jazz community for over 30 years! Upstairs is deservedly a regular venue in the Montreal Jazz Festival.View more

Service was excellent. We were greeted at the door, reservation confirmed & shown to our seats. The menu had great choices & i selected the fish & chips. Drinks & food arrived promptly, & it tasted great. I was hoping for a good show & it far exceeded my expectations. David Marino & the 3 jazz players provided a wonderful evening. We thoroughly enjoyed the performance. The singer had an incredible voice, & her wit & humor added a delightful touch. The band complemented her energy perfectly. The food was also excellent. However, if you're planning a reunion or a first date, this bar might not be the ideal spot unless you're planning to spend some time there before or after the show. We initially thought it was a restaurant with jazz music enhancing the experience, but it turns out it's more of a performance venue. We were advised to enjoy the show with minimal interaction & to communicate quietly.View more

Great music, jazz was really nice & entertaining.
The place is very cosy, but be aware the tables are very tightly placed one next to the other. It feels like you can bump shoulders at any time.
Service is ok. If they actually come to your table, when they actually see you, they are cordial & try their help. They brought the bill even before asking if we wanted anything else. That was quite a minus.
Food is ok, nothing outstanding. Don't expect too much.
In general it's a good place. They are 4/5 due to the jazz & the ambience.
