TSUJIRI was founded in 1860 by Riemon Tsuji who was renowned for his spirit of “YUWA”, meaning "continue to innovate and sustain the tradition". His statue was built in Kyoto, Japan to honor his contribution to the Japanese tea industry. Mr. Tsuji has refined the cultivation of Gyokuro (the highest grade of Japanese green tea) and his method is still being used to this day. He is also the inventor of the tea box that preserves the longevity and freshness of the tea leaves during transportation, making fresh tea from Kyoto available to other Japanese cities a century ago. In 2010, CHAHO, which means tea shop in Japanese, was first established outside of Japan to carry on our founder’s spirit and to serve fresh tea to our customers worldwide.

Review Summary

Reviews describe Tsujiri Montreal as a popular destination for matcha fans with a broad menu of desserts drinks and some savory options like ramen and soba; matcha is praised for richness and authenticity though some items are described as less strong or overly sweet and a few desserts feel pricey or inconsistent in quality; the atmosphere is often described as cozy and Japanese inspired with ample seating good for studying or catching up but it can get crowded and noisy in peak hours; service is generally friendly and professional with staff helpful and attentive though isolated rude experiences are noted; the cafe also receives compliments for its modern decor and variety of offerings like hojicha yuzu and kuromitsu desserts; overall it comes across as a top choice for matcha in Montreal delivering strong matcha desserts and drinks in a welcoming setting with some items needing closer consistency.

TLDR: You must get their matcha soft serve!

We decided to stop by while in Montreal for some dessert after dinner. The matcha soft serve is delicious & the best I’ve ever had. You can taste the quality of the matcha. The base of the shiratama parfait was a matcha jelly layered with red beans. The mochi was chewy (in a good way), & the chestnut added a nice balance to the dessert. I also ordered the yuzu glacé. It was not too sweet & had a nice citrusy flavour —refreshing on a hot summer day. My boyfriend ordered their hot hojicha, poke soba bowl, & dessert parfait. The zesty dressing of the soba bowl tied everything together nicely, & he said he’d get it again. Get the dessert parfait if you like some crunch with your soft serve.

The staff were super friendly & welcoming. :)
The decor is very cozy & pretty with the lights on, which is excellent for a date. There was also an outdoor patio, but it was closed because of the rain.

Come here during the summer heat to cool down! The shaved ice cream, coolers & desserts made for an excellent place to take a break from the heat. There is enoughs eating for a group of 4 or more. But seating is limited indoors. There is more seating outside.

The Kuromitsu Matcha Shaved Ice was MUCH better than expected. We were expecting a very sugary sweet shaved ice but it was very well balanced with the matcha & brown sugar syrup! This definitely cooled us down. The matcha tiramisu is a nice dessert as well! The one order we got was more than enough for us 2 & it wasn't too sugary at all.

Our drinks, the Houjicha Latte & Azuki Matcha Latte were amazing drinks. Very well balanced drinks that were too sugary & the flavors weren't too strong. It was superb to drink during a hot summer city afternoon. We wished we could have tried other desserts but our orders filled us up quite good! Would highly recommend coming here if you're in the area.
