TSUJIRI was founded in 1860 by Riemon Tsuji who was renowned for his spirit of “YUWA”, meaning "continue to innovate and sustain the tradition". His statue was built in Kyoto, Japan to honor his contribution to the Japanese tea industry. Mr. Tsuji has refined the cultivation of Gyokuro (the highest grade of Japanese green tea) and his method is still being used to this day. He is also the inventor of the tea box that preserves the longevity and freshness of the tea leaves during transportation, making fresh tea from Kyoto available to other Japanese cities a century ago. In 2010, CHAHO, which means tea shop in Japanese, was first established outside of Japan to carry on our founder’s spirit and to serve fresh tea to our customers worldwide.

Review Summary

Reviews about Tsujiri Montreal highlight strong authentic matcha across drinks, desserts and ice cream, with many calling it one of the best matcha spots in town and praising the rich balanced flavor, the range of beverages including lattes and plant based milks, and the dessert lineup from parfaits to mochi and green tea cakes. The menu is noted for its variety, including ramen and green tea udon options in some mentions, and the interior described as stylish, calm, and with ample seating that makes it a good place to study or catch up with friends. Pricing is mixed with some items seen as expensive but many reviewers feel the quality justifies it, and portions are often generous. Service is generally described as friendly and professional, though a rare negative experience with staff is noted. The atmosphere can be busy and noisy at peak times, and a few reviews mention occasional inconsistency in drink sweetness or dessert quality. Overall Tsujiri Montreal is frequently recommended for matcha lovers and is viewed as a reliable destination for both beverages and sweets with a welcoming setting.

Beautiful cafe with great pastries, ice cream & matcha! The service felt a bit bland & cold, but otherwise lovely cafe.

My former favorite has become increasingly unpalatable. The matcha latte is bland, & the ice cream is loaded with a bunch of random, unremarkable toppings to justify spending $10. The price has gone up, but the quality has declined. The ambiance is also worse; it used to be quiet & elegant, but now it feels like a market, where you have to shout to order. The counter is so wide that you have to lean forward to barely communicate with the staff.

Everything matcha is delicious...best matcha ice cream. The soft serve is so good! Also very good ramen & poke bowls. Great casual dinner or dropping in for dessert. The parfaits are amazing. Wish they stayed open later in the summer though.

I had lunch here before I headed to VIA rail to go home. Beautiful cafe. Delicious soup. Nice presentation. I also bought a matcha chocolate bar. I'll see if they're in Toronto.

Tsujiri is THE most famous green tea brand in all Japan. Consequently they usually also have the best dark green tea ice cream in the world. However at this branch they did not offer the typical 3 flavor tiers of green tea ice cream (mild, medium, dark) & only the generic mild which is not what they are famous for… yuzu tea is good. Otherwise I do not recommend. Zenmai Matcha around the corner has a slightly better generic mild green tea ice cream (probably Maeda-En supplier?)

I had a lovely visit to Tsujiri! The menu is concise & well-defined, which usually guarantees quality-& they certainly delivered on that. The grilled pork noodle soup was delicious & clearly prepared with care. I also tried the roasted green tea, which was flavorful & hit the spot.
?However, I was quite disappointed that my tea was served in a paper cup despite me dining in.

Apparently, they had run out of glassware. For a premium tea house, drinking out of paper really takes away from the experience & the flavor. On the bright side, the matcha orders at other tables looked stunning! I'd love to come back for the food, but I hope they sort out their inventory so guests can enjoy the full aesthetic next time

Absolutely in love with their new limited sakura series!! 🌸 Everything tastes so good!! I highly recommend the mousse cake & the latte 😊💕 It's so rare to see sakura flavored drinks & sweets in Montreal. I hope they repeat this menu every year 🥹

Delicious & not so sweet cakes & pies. The traditional matcha hot latte is amazing & uniquely served in a beautiful glass. Very pleased.

I like the atmosphere of this place. I've been here a couple times & its usually packed so there can be a little wait for seating. The matcha is very strong & not too sweet, but it is a little pricey. After tax I paid a little over $10 for a matcha latte, but it is very tasty. The dessert is good as well. I also love that there is free wifi & outlets to charge your devices. Next time im definitely trying their ice cream!

One of my favorite places in Montreal! Every time I'm in the city, it's a must-stop for me especially because they have such a wide variety of matcha options 🍵

The only downside is that since it's so popular, it's usually very crowded, & there isn't enough space for everyone who wants to eat there.

Honestly one of the worst matcha drinks I've ever had. The flavor was super off - tasted bitter & kind of watered down at the same time, which is a weird combo. I tried to give it a chance but couldn't even finish it.

What made it worse was the customer service. I politely asked if I could exchange it for something else since I didn't like it, & they flat out refused. No effort to accommodate at all.

Definitely disappointing, especially for something that's not cheap. Wouldn't go back.
