I love Chinese food, yeah. You know that it's true, yeah. I love fried rice, I love noodles, I love chow mein, chow mei mei mei mei mein.

Classic Dim Sum experience, nothing grandiose but nothing poorioso. The lights are perfectly dim & food sums up everything about the classical Dim Sum experience.

Chicken feet 🐔 Pork 🐷 Beef 🐄 Shrimp 🍤 Tofu 🐪 Noodole 🍜 You name it, they got it.

Unfortunately, I do not speak the language of the great big China, so I must communicate in the language of the ASL & English. Maybe one day I'll learn Chinese (Da chia how juung go, chuunzai, wu yo BING CHILLING) Other than that, service is good. Aunties are nice & uncles are nice :)

Atmosphere is Chinese.

Large portions & good quality food. I like that they have a wonton soup without pork (only shrimp), I don't eat pork so normally can't order that. Our server was very nice.

Dim Sum can vary, last time was excellent, dinner/ main plates generous but quality of output average, service attentive

Went this past Sat. Place was mobbed. Dim sum was first class. Soumai was moist, full of pork & ground shrimp with a transperant skin, sticky rice & chicken feet were hot & tasty while spareribs were meaty in their black bean sauce.
After the lengthy customer restrictions from the pandemic, it was nice to see the big dining room full & vibrant.

I felt compelled to make an update. Today the dim sum was outstanding. Eating alone my sample had to be a narrow one.
The tripe,liver & turnip was delicious. Moist & chewy, I enjoyed & applauded that the different elements of Now Jap in their serving chariot were separate as opposedto being in one prearranged mixture. The spareribs in black bean sauce were somewhat unique So much meat around each piece,chewy & garlic tasting. The sumai( steamed pork & shrimp) dumplings were as good as I have ever sampled including those eaten in Hong Kong . Light,buttery,virtual no thick,floured skin & brilliant texture, I almost brought a second order home in an act of indulgence. The three items described cost $23 before taxes up 40% from several years ago but in the moment worth every penny according to my satisfaction

On a summer vacation visiting my mom & sister from also my nephew & his LARGE family also in town from Toronto, we came to Tong Por for a family dinner.

As it was on the eve of Ste Jean Baptiste Day holiday in Quebec, the restaurant was not as crowded on a Monday night - as people are traveling or camping.

We were given a large table with rotation capability for easy food access by everyone, We ordered:

* Cantonese Stewed Brisket w/ Daikon
* Sweet & Sour Pork Chops
* Deep Fried Salt & Pepper Tofu Cubes
' Salt & Pepper Fired Chicken
* Beef & Gailan in Oyster Sauce
* Black Bean Steamed Fish
* Crispy Cantonese Chow Mein

The food took a little bit time to come out of the kitchen, but once the first one arrived, the rest came rather quickly in succession. This is a Cantonese restaurant, which is one of our preferred Chinese cuisines, so they were very genuine & delicious. The service was quite good, as we (the visitors from. Toronto & California) happened to hit a heat spell in Montreal; temperature outside was in the high 35°C+, so they gave us a water pitcher with plenty of ice in it so no need to bother them constantly with a large party of 10 people.

In summary, Ville St Laurent used to have quite a few options when it comes to Chinese cuisines - avoiding the need to drive to Montreal Chinatown & parking headaches, however, due to the current economy & past COVID consequences, Tong Por is miraculously still serving St Laurent & its vicinity. So, if like us, you're craving for some yummy Cantonese cuisines & not wanting to bother fighting the traffic, give Tong Por a try.

Let me by saying that this was one of my most favorite restaurants, would go there once a month, but the last 2 times was not the greatest. Went this week & for supper, hoping the food would be better then the last time we went. Unfortunately it was not, I would order the peanut butter dumplings as they are so delicious, to find pieces of pork fat which was never the case it would only be shrimp inside, the dough was not even cooked asked the waitress if they had a new chef as the food did not taste the same. The manager came over, & all he said was SO YOU ARE NOT HAVING THIS & JUST TOOK THE PLATES AWAY, THAT WE DID NOT LIKE(EXTREMELY RUDE). Even though he has seen us many times. It's unfortunate but I will not be going back. The waitress on the other hand was very apologetic, as this was not her fault. So sad but that was my last time. Management stop cutting corners on the food you used to serve, as it used to be extremely good.
