⭐⭐☆☆☆
We visited on Father's Day &, unfortunately, the experience did not live up to our expectations.
First impressions matter, & the entrance area looked quite neglected & uninviting. Once seated, service was disappointing from start to finish. No one asked if we wanted drinks, soft drinks, or anything to start. We had to repeatedly ask for water, & even then it was often forgotten, requiring us to ask again.
The food arrived very slowly & without any coordination. For example, the General Tao chicken was served well before the rice, which doesn't make much sense since they are meant to be enjoyed together. Dishes seemed to arrive randomly rather than as complete meals.
As for the food itself, it was acceptable but nothing particularly memorable. Given the reviews & reputation, we were expecting more.
I understand that parties of five or more are automatically charged a 15% gratuity, & to be fair, the restaurant is very transparent about this policy. However, it's difficult to understand the justification when there is minimal interaction with the service staff. Orders are placed through your phone, no one takes your order, & various staff members simply drop off dishes at the table with very little engagement.
Considering it was Father's Day, I expected the restaurant to be extremely busy, but it wasn't. After our experience, I think I understand why.
Will I return? Maybe, maybe not. For comparison, Matsuno Sushi Fusion offers noticeably better service, better food, & a much more enjoyable overall atmosphere. Based on this visit, it would be my first choice.
Première fois, cadre sympathique, service rapide (même pour un samedi soir), qualité/fraîcheur/présentation au rendez vous & a volonté. 3 personnes + 2 Coca cola = 150$ j'y retournerai.
Very rude staff. Had the nerve to complain I didn't tip 15% when I tipped 10$ on a two person table.
The food is good but the service was awful. The hostess/cashier gave us a table after letting 3 families before us. We were two people & she gave 3 other walk-in groups a table before us when we were in line before everyone. & then, the food took forever to come, clearly there wasn't enough staff to clear the floor, most likely to keep the tips to themselves. Lack of organization, lack of service. ON TOP OF THAT, she forced us to tip. Go eat somewhere else.
The quality of the food was good, but the service was relatively slow. We understand that the restaurant was busy, but this remains an area that could be improved.
Finally, the tip options were calculated based on the total amount after taxes, which is contrary to the regulation that came into effect in May 2025. When we asked for clarification & a reimbursement, the employees showed us a document from Revenu Québec stating that a new regulation allows this practice. However, we were unable to find any information online confirming this.
I would suggest informing customers in advance whenever your tipping practices differ from those of other restaurants. Greater transparency would help avoid confusion & improve the overall customer experience.
Les meilleurs sushis que j'ai goûter depuis mon arrivée à Montréal, je recommande
in overall i'd rate this like a 2.5 stars. the food is really good & the atmosphere is fine. but the customer service is so shit. we had to keep reminding the servers to clear our tables. the place wasnt even busy, there were probably 3 other tables of 3. so we decided not to tip because if you give a bad service im sorry im not tipping. then the server had the audacity to try & give us sass about not tipping. i told him i wasnt tipping for bad service & doing your job for you & he just laughs & walks away. great food & atmosphere but horrible customer service. also a kid of 11 years old had to pay for normal adult price which makes no sense
During the weekend, Taketa serves the best sushi when compared with similar all you can eat sushi places in the West Island. During the week the menu leaves a little to be desired. The staff is super friendly & attentive
Today was my girlfriend's birthday, & we came here full of excitement & high expectations. Unfortunately, everything that happened made us regret choosing this restaurant.
First, we waited almost 40 minutes before being seated. It wasn't just us, many other guests who had reservations & arrived around the same time were also left waiting at the front desk. On a busy Friday evening, there were only four people working in the front of the house. Everyone looked exhausted, & the level of service was far below what one would expect from a restaurant in this price range.
If that had been the only issue, we might have been able to overlook it. However, things became even worse after we were seated. We ordered salmon sashimi & sweet shrimp sashimi. The salmon sashimi was mediocre at best, but what really shocked us was the sweet shrimp sashimi, which had an unpleasant smell & taste that suggested it was not fresh. It honestly reminded us of the smell of garbage.
As for the rest of the food, there is not much to say. The sushi was acceptable, but most of the other dishes felt like pre-made or mass-produced items. At this price point, customers should not be treated this way.
We chose this restaurant because of the many positive reviews & hoped to spend a wonderful evening celebrating my girlfriend's birthday. Instead, this dinner completely ruined our mood.
There was essentially no real service. In fact, I wouldn't even call them servers, they were simply food runners. They brought dishes to the table without any communication, without a smile, & even delivered the wrong dishes multiple times. Yet despite this level of service, customers are still expected to pay an 18% gratuity.
I would strongly suggest that management schedule more staff instead of overworking the employees. The staff clearly seemed overwhelmed, & the restaurant was understaffed for the volume of customers.
Overall, I hope anyone reading this review will think carefully before deciding whether to dine here. At nearly $60 per person, there are many better dining options available. Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing experience from start to finish.
