St-Viateur Bagel & Café Montreal Restaurant: Menu, Reviews & Reserve (2026)
BagelsCaféSandwichesBreakfastCateringFood Truck
Since 1957, St-Viateur Bagel has been a central part of the culture and daily life of Montreal. Its legendary landmark bagel shop operates 24/7 and sells over 1,000 dozen bagels a day. St-Viateur Bagel was founded by Myer Lewkowicz who brought his now famous recipe from Eastern Europe. The art of bagel making means hand rolling each one and baking them in a wood-burning oven. The current owner, Joe Morena, with over 45 years of experience in the bagel business, ensures that the traditions at St-Viateur Bagel continue to be respected. Over half a century, this family business has grown to include 4 bakeries and 2 Bagel Cafés in Montreal. Come and visit us soon or order online today. St-Viateur Bagel & Café Mont-Royal is located in the bustling "Plateau". The avenue is lined with trendy cafés, restaurants and specialty food stores, which contribute to the district's European flair. The café menu offers a number of bagel sandwiches, salads, and a wide variety of specialty coffees.

Review Summary

Reviews describe St-Viateur Bagel & Café as a quintessential Montreal bagel experience, with fresh, wood-fired bagels that are chewy and slightly sweet and offered in many varieties, often enjoyed with cream cheese or smoked salmon and in simple bagel sandwiches. The sesame, rosemary-salt and poppy are frequent favorites, and the bagels are praised for their quality and authentic Montreal character. A common caveat is the long lines and wait times, especially at peak times, though staff are described as fast, friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere remains welcoming. Payment is typically cash and Canadian debit, with US cards not accepted at many locations. Most reviews say the experience is worth the wait and a must-visit for bagel lovers visiting Montreal, though a few find the hype a bit inflated or note occasional inconsistency in freshness or value. Overall, it’s a cozy, bustling spot where you can see bagels being made on site and leave with a satisfying, classic Montreal breakfast or lunch.

Sympa mais rien d'exceptionnel.
Rapport qualité-prix pas des meilleurs.

I ordered Le Steak on cinnamon raisin bagel & it was amazing! The steak was juicy & flavourful. The bagel was so tasty as well. Their house made iced tea was also very good, it is sweetened but not too sweet. I also got their canvas bag & it is super cute!

4 star since they only take cash or Canadian debit cards. Otherwise very friendly place to pickup their iconic bagels. Lots of choices & you can see them making it all fresh.

Fresh bagels were awesome, especially with the spreads they sell in the to-go store. The wait for the to-go store was also pretty short, less than 10 minutes. Surprisingly, though, no to-go sandwiches & the line to grab a seat was like 90+ minutes.

I ordered the Poulet St-Viateur, Breakfast Sandwich & Le "Joe Bagel" along with their fresh orange juice! Lovely place, the food was amazing & the staff were very humble & friendly!

Good little breakfast place. Simple menu but good. I had the smoked meat bagel, it was very good but unoriginal. My boyfriend had the bagel with marinated eggplants, goat cheese & sun dried tomatos. That one was amazing.
The coffees were also very good.
Service was abit slow. It took about 20 minutes to take out order. At least we got the food quickly.

Petite place sympa pour prendre un café, mais tables collées les unes sur les autres. Bagels fais sur place. Good service.

LA place pour manger les meilleurs bagels! Le service est rapide mais il y a souvent des erreurs & des airs bêtes. Malgré tout, j'aime la bouffe & l'emplacement du resto, surtout l'été!
