Overrated.
If you're a tourist, you can only pay with cash. You can only use debit if you're Canadian.
On the other hand, the only good thing is the bagel dough. The filling is nothing special, without much flavour.
Great visit to St-Viateur! Note that it's cash only, but they do accept both USD & CAD. The sesame bagel with cream cheese was excellent, perfectly crunchy on the outside & lighter than typical U.S.-style bagels, making it a great quick bite. The setup is well organized with separate lines for bagel sandwiches & for bulk bagel orders to go, which helps things move efficiently even when it's busy.
We went on a weekday around 10am & the place was pretty empty. We got the traditional on sesame & it was amazing. Definitely better than any bagel you can get in Toronto.
Great service & staff as well.
It's Canadian Debit or Cash only.
If you don't have cash or CANADIAN BANK don't even go. I'm a tourist with no Canadian bank & I couldn't buy from them, just waste my time. All the merch & stuff that we can't even buy.
No gluten free options. Only take Cad debit card, cash (USD or Cad). Bagels are freshly made, lots of varieties
The best bagel spot in town, I always get a freshly made sesame bagel to go! They don't take credit card so cash or debit!
I love cinnamon raisin bagels & I was happy that St-Viateur's version of it is easily one of my favorites. It's way up there with Tal's Bagels (New York). People have said that Montreal bagels have a special taste & I agree. I'm glad we tried the ones from this place because the first time I tried Montreal bagels from a different place (from our trip last year), I was disappointed. But St-Viateur redeemed my opinion of Montreal bagels. My husband, whose not a bagel lover, thinks this one is really good - & that's saying a lot.
We waited for about 10-15 minutes to get a table but if you're taking your bagels to go, there's no wait at all. Also, this store only accepts cash payments or Canadian debit cards. There's a bank a few feet from the store so you can grab some cash from their ATM if you don't normally cash like us.
Had to get an authentic Montreal bagel & this was perfect. Lots of other places in town actually sell bagels from here, which i noticed in subsequent breakfast/brunch locations. If you love bagels, this is a must visit while you are in Montreal.
Note: bring cash here if youre from the US as they do not accept US cards.
Love these bagels! Shop is cash only, so come prepared. Coming from Chicago (& USA in general) we're used to NY-style bagels, but Montreal-style bagels are so much better. Chewy, slightly sweet, delicious. We ordered a sesame to savor, & also two bagel sandwiches- one BTL & one smoked meats. Amazing. Will return! The staff was efficient & welcoming & clear about what types of payment are accepted. Merch is so cute, we bought several things, including gifts for friends.
Cash only at this location. Is it the best bagel on the world? It's hard to argue that point. Warm out of the oven with crispy outside, tender inside with great flavor in both toppings & bread. Highly recommend these to any lover of bagels even those from New York.
We visited as part of a food tour while in Montreal. These bagels (unique to Montreal) are worth every penny & are absolutely a treat to have while visiting!
They are all handmade (10,000 a day) & if you can get one hot out of the oven - even better! The speed at which they can make them is pretty incredible & worth a visit just to watch! This is cash only so keep that in mind when you come looking to purchase.
Highly recommend!
I prefer this location to Rosemont location, because it takes debit card as well as cash & has bagel sandwiches💯 there was a long queue during summer, but this time afternoon, no queue & fast serve!
& finally got sesame oil this time !!
Bagels itself doesn't charge extra tax unless it's a sandwich. LOVE IT ❤?
& somehow all dressed (everything) bagel is always warm hahah
Overly hyped, bagels were not fresh, & lady at door was rude, arrogant, & gave incorrect information. The cashier & chefs were friendly. They lost 10 customers today as me & my friends are never going back!!
*CASH ONLY* at St Viateur bagel
I was here on Saturday noon, & there was a long line reaching in front of BMO. This is the line for both dine it & take out. Then at the door they separate you into left or right; left for sandwiches & right for take out/buying bags. By the way I waited 45 minutes before I got to the cashier.
The cashier recommended traditional on sesame bagel $14. I searched previous reviews for anyone who's tried Courage Bagels in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, but no one seemed to have mentioned them. I absolutely LOVE Courage Bagels, so I was really excited to try Montreal-style bagels here. My hot take is the salmon lox at Courage tastes better than the traditional one at St Viateur. My reason is Courage Bagel uses a lot more seasoning, especially on the salmon. The salmon here is like barely salty, but it is very soft. The bagel itself is wonderful. (The line at Courage is atrocious.)
The other bagel I got to try is the smoked meat bagel on all-dressed bagel $14. This was one great with the mustard, but I added a bit of extra cream cheese from the salmon bagel, & it tasted even better! If I were to get it again, I would ask for cream cheese on this one.
Servers are nice & spoke English & French.

The bagels absolutely lived up to the hype.
The difference between U.S. water bagels & Montreal's is more than just shape-they're slightly sweet, flatter, & thinner, & here, they turn them into full-on sandwiches. I came here early in the morning with my girlfriend & was thrilled that this spot met expectations. I started with a simple bagel & cream cheese, & man, was it good. I ended up walking back in to order a dozen to take home, as well as a roadie for the walk back to the metro.
The staff was friendly & spoke English, French, & Spanish. Just one heads-up: they don't take American credit cards, so bring cash (CAD or USD) when you go.
