The best place in'west island' (actually not really on Montreal but Always worth the drive!) You can find lots of smoked meat in Mt'l- but you will never find a joint that is as busy as this place! Ppl drive from all over for Smoke Meat Pete - some just for the food, some for the nightly Blues concerts- & me Both! Don't come if you are in a rush! You will have to stand in line to order like the rest of us... but when you see the crowds ans taste the food you will appreciate why!
Best damn smoked meat in the country. Having lived in Montreal for over 60 years, I can honestly say I know smoked meat. There isn't a restaurant that comes close to Pete's.

Our go to when stopping for true Montreal style smoked meat. order the Pete Special. Awesome brisket for the purchase & being home. The blues band always a great atmosphere.
Food was fantastic. Just grabbed the Pete Special or combo, so smoked meat sandwich, fries, & fountain drink. Delicious. The ordering/seating process was a bit unusual, but basically you order at the counter & find a spot, & the wait staff will bring your food to you. It was busy when we were there, so if you go with someone else, one person order while the other secures a seat. Right off the highway too, so Montreal road trips in the future will likely have a stop on the way in or out each trip!
I think of Pete's smoked meat like a biker hangout without the ruckess of the bikers. The food is good quality, the atmosphere is loud with either blues or rock music being pumped through a concert audio system. It's gained its notoriety from being consistent. It hasn't changed (apart from more seating) in 10 years
C'est la première fois que j'essaye la smoked meat de Pete, je suis agréablement surpris par le goût succulent, l'accueil chaleureux & surtout la quantité & la gourmandise que j'ai eu dans mon plat pour 15$. Franchement bravo ❤️

Must do the line up to order, then go to your table & they will bring your food by saying your name.Food was excellent. My son & I shared a Special Pete, smoke meat sandwich with fries, coselaw & a Cott Cherry Coke. Music was a bit load(not live). I will go back for live Blues Band for sure. Asked for gravy but it was 5$ for a small cup so we decided to pass, I guess whatever little extra the kitchen must do is a big bother so they are trying to discourage you. They serve a little cup of ribs while in the line to order.
Fantastically authentic, Pete's won't disappoint. Their luscious ribs, smoked meat platter were generously portioned & left us wanting more. Kudos to the staff for the samples, you sold us when we walked in.
I can't begin to explain how much we enjoyed the food, atmosphere, good cheer. I'm a fussy eater, & I like to eat quietly. But when a good friend offered to treat me to Smoke Meat Pete, I had no idea, & the videos & pix show the wonderful experience. Too bad the crowds left before the music ended. We had a 90 minute drive home, so we couldn't stay, but I hope to come back during old car cruise in come spring! Thank you Pete!!!
No one no one can beat smoke meat Pete. I went with my son for his first time To eat at the best restaurant in the world, He was so impressed, & now he wants to eat there more often, to put the icing on the cake, Pete walks by & sees my son, Hey little guy, how about a good ice cream cone, I have chocolate, he was very happy. I love smoked meat & Pete's makes some of the best you can get! I haven't tried their other menu items, but have never been let down by the smoked meat sandwiches. I also enjoy the vibe & music they've made part of the experience. My one BIG complaint is the system they have for ordering & getting your food. For some reason, you have to wait in line to order at the counter, pay, & THEN hope you can find a table. That's a tall order as this place is often busy. This means you often have to stand in line for quite a while before ordering, instead of just comfortably sitting at a table & have someone come to take your order LIKE EVERY OTHER RESTAURANT ON EARTH! So you stand in line (why?) & after ordering & paying there is no guarantee that you'll even find a table to sit at. Then, with music blaring, the wait staff wanders around the restaurant holding your plates, yelling your name hoping you might hear & waive them down. I find this really takes away from the overall experience. Just do it like every other restaurant. It works.
I've been eating here for years, but it was the first time bringing my kids ( 11 & 12 ) to Pete's & they said it was the best smoke meat they've ever had ! lol it's usually busy, but it's sooo worth the wait. Trust me. Staff was awesome & the food was out within five minutes after ordering.
