Reviews describe Smoke Meat Pete as a legendary Montreal staple with generous portions of tender, flavorful smoked meat, a standout poutine and fries, and a lively bluesy atmosphere powered by live bands that draw crowds of locals and visitors alike. The experience is often praised for friendly staff, efficient service, and a welcoming vibe, though several comments note rising prices and, in some cases, reduced portion sizes or inconsistent meat quality, especially for lean cuts or fattier options. Dining in can be crowded and ordering at the counter is common, with takeout and to go serving as popular alternatives, and the overall value debated as prices climb, while many reviewers insist the meat, smoke and authentic ambience make Smoke Meat Pete worth the trip, especially when a show is on.

Paid ~70$ for a slice of burnt cheesecake & 2 smoked meat sandwich combos with soggy fries that had no color on them . I get that the kitchen was getting slammed on a Sunday night but screw this place. The front of house staff were pleasant but there needs to be way better quality control with what's coming out of the kitchen.
I will come back to this place time & time again! Eating here is what I look most forward to after spending the day in Montreal. The staff is always friendly, & the food hits the spot every damn time. Well done!!

I think I may have just found a legitimate contender to Schwartz's deli, which I didn't think was possible. Granted it's a way outside of Montreal proper, it was nonetheless amazing.
Great food just outside Montreal to beat some of the crowds. Great smoked meat, Poutine, & phenomenal ribs! Atmosphere is a bit crammed but probably fun during live music.
Dine in or take out, this place is amazing! What a cool atmosphere if you're lucky to get a seat! (Which is a good sign!) When you order at the counter, with friendly bilingual service, they provide delicious samples of their amazing dishes! Amazing little stage with live music & they even announce anniversaries & birthdays! What an awesome place & the food is beyond amazing! Stop in on your way to Montreal & end your trip with one more visit! 🥰

Authentic Montreal style smoked meat sandwich done to perfection. The special offered at $18.95 comes with a smoked meat sandwich, coleslaw, home made fries & a soda fountain drink of your choice. You got to eat here! They also offer live Blues band on the weekend.
Better than Schwartz, that's all I need to say. The moment you enter you are smacked in the face with the amazing smell of the smokers in action. The vibe of the place is something else - in such a fantastic way. The service is efficient & simple; order at the window, take a seat, food comes to you very fast. The portions are fantastic, & the fries are wonderful. They remind me of carnival fries from decades ago when they were soft & crispy & oily & salty. Homemade chip truck style - not your frozen McCain's. The meat though, tender, smoky & stacked real high even for the regular portion. I love that it comes with a pickle & slaw as both of them compliment all aspects of the dish so well. You can top the fries with the slaw & cut down the richness overall of the dish, or you can eat them on your own to give your palate a break from the unctuousness & richness of everything. This is my fourth (& not last) time being here & I will visit this over Schwartz's when in MTL area.
Best damn smoked meat in the country. Having lived in Montreal for over 60 years, I can honestly say I know smoked meat. There isn't a restaurant that comes close to Pete's.
I gave this place a 2nd try but I won't be back. The bread was mushy, the smoked meat tasted like PREM & was incredibly fatty! The poutine gravy is too sweet for me & they were pretty cheap on the curds. I think they should move away from calling your name when your food is ready. It just came off weird & unorganized. They had a two for one beer special & love music so that's a good draw & that atmosphere is great.
Great kitschy, rock'n roll type establishment. You place your order at the window & then grab a table. The meal is brought over by a server. I had the smoked meat, which was moist delicious. I would have liked to see a bigger sandwich, but I would order again. I suggest you google the busy times because it's popular & can be crowded.
Great spot on Thursdays & Sundays to listen to live music in a casual setting, while eating smoke meat & drinking beer. Very friendly ambiance. The Blues band plays from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm (please check hours).
Our go to when stopping for true Montreal style smoked meat. order the Pete Special. Awesome brisket for the purchase & being home. The blues band always a great atmosphere.
