The two specialty rolls we had (Adam & Black Dragon) were exceptional & creative. However, the edamame was overcooked & the non-specialty rolls were bland tasting, though beautiful looking. Stick to the specialty rolls & you'll have an exceptional meal!
My wife & I had the fortunate accident of walking by on the restaurant right before opening & asked for a table. They accommodated us & had high chairs available for small children.
We had the Sho Dan special
, Sushi pizza & twister roll. Wish we had more time to try the rest. Everything was delicious
Sho-Dan is a standout destination for Japanese cuisine, where tradition meets bold creativity in every dish. Known for its high-quality ingredients & meticulous presentation, the menu goes beyond the expected, offering inventive sushi rolls & artfully composed plates that surprise & delight. The flavors are refined yet daring, showcasing a commitment to craftsmanship & innovation. Whether you're a sushi purist or an adventurous diner looking for unique twists on Japanese classics, Sho-Dan delivers an experience that feels both elevated & exciting-a true gem for those who appreciate culinary artistry.
First time in shodan for lunch. We have ordered the sushi plate for 2 & added a sushi pizza. I believe if we will be just full only have sushi plate for 2.adding pizza we r too full. The fish are so fresh! However I find the rice is abit too soft & doesn't taste enough vinegar. Thus 4/5 for the food. Service is good, atmosphere is good. Will come back & try the dinner menue, heard the specialty rolls are good too. Sushi pizza is covered by smoked salmon. Find the rice is not crispy enough or maybe too thin to taste the crispness.
Very expensive for what you get. The specialty rolls are too busy & lose sight of what sushi is meant to be. On a positive note, I did not feel sick after eating here.
Sho-Dan, in my opinion, offers some of, if not the best, sushi in the city. This is a place highly frequented for business lunches & for good reason. The quality of the fish is always incredibly fresh & the rolls are expertly prepared. They offer very unique types of rolls which avoid the use of cheap fillers like tempura & spicy mayo, & you consistently get excellent cuts of fish. I highly recommend every roll I've tried on the menu (which by now is almost everything), but I have to say that the lawyer is my favourite, a very unique roll. This is not your traditional Japanese sushi dining experience (ie. This is not a place that focuses on sashimi & basic maki rolls, although they can be ordered), but the specialty rolls are truly out of this world & justify their price. Highly recommend this place for a nice sushi experience. I've been here for dinner & lunch & had excellent experiences for both services.
The specialty items where overpriced for the quality & taste. The rolls were good. The service was almost non existent.. not sure I will be returning
The food & service are always great!!
& the Besame Mucho chef specialty roll is as delicious as it has always been for the past 20 years!!
Sho-dan targets the business crowd located in Montreal's downtown core. The wine list is fine, the patrons are fine, the dining is fine, & the prices match. While the fish is merely of reasonable quality, the chef put a lot of thought into creating interesting rolls that feature texture, taste & aroma.
