Restaurant Rumi offers you a culinary experience of the Silk Road that once crossed Central Asia and the Middle East. A route that linked cities, oases and markets... great traditions, formidable kingdoms.
The Silk Road was also the route of spices, generous in fragrance and flavor. We invite you to be inspired by the spirit of the travelers, merchants and pilgrims who, for centuries, exchanged goods, riches and important cultural elements. A spirit of discovery and openness. We aim to create a hospitable atmosphere conducive to meaningful encounters. A setting in which to take the time to restore oneself in the sense of regaining strength and meaning.
As far as possible, our cuisine favors local, organic and sustainable agriculture. All the meat we serve is halal.
Rumi is described as a warm, inviting spot with beautiful décor and a Middle Eastern vibe, where generous portions, flavorful mezze and main courses, and fresh ingredients meet attentive, friendly service. The atmosphere is cozy and often lively, sometimes enhanced by live music and a charming terrace garden, making it suitable for intimate dinners as well as groups and celebrations. Guests repeatedly note excellent service, accommodating staff, and good value for the quality, with dishes ranging from hummus and halloumi to lamb shank and merguez highlighted as standouts. The tea service, desserts, and overall balance of sweetness and spice add distinctive touches, and the space feels welcoming to families and friends alike. Overall, Rumi emerges as a reliable go-to for diverse flavors, a festive yet comfortable ambience, and a dining experience that invites return visits.
The meal as always, was delicious. We ordered dhal soup, lamb shank, caviar d'aubergine, chakchouka merguez. I have dietary restrictions, but the menu provides many options. If I lived in Montreal, I would go there at least once a week.
Rumi is an old favourite & last night did not disappoint. The Fez was delicious, the Kafta was very good. The wine from Lebanon was exceptionally good. Mint tea & service made it all perfect. It's a place you will not want to miss at the very edge of Mile-End across from the Ukrainian Federation Community Center.

Rumi is one of my favourite restaurants in Montréal. The decor is warm & inviting, the service impeccable & the food is always so flavourful & delicious.

We used to visit Rumi every so often before Covid & loved their brunch. We came recently to see that their menu has changed. The food is not as tasty as before. Naan break is even worse than store bought. So sad.

I visited Rumi with my partner to celebrate our first anniversary - the decor was mesmerizing however, the food let me down tremendously. As a vegetarian, I ordered the one main that they offered - Khudra. To my surprise, it was a weak broth with boiled vegetables & Jerusalem couscous. It lacked flavour & it was definitely not something that I would expect to eat at restaurant of Rumi's stature. The dish wasn't described on the menu or explained by our server & with Khudra being my only option, I had nothing else to choose from but that. I would expect the restaurant to serve a decent vegetarian main or if Khudra was something that they wanted to incorporate in their menu as it is tradional, have something else that is vegetarian as an option because broth & boiled veggies is not something anyone would expect or like to eat at a restaurant. Rumi should also not label itself as a veggie friendly place because if you have only one vegetarian option in mains, it is not truly an option. It is the only thing that can be ordered. Very disappointed to have spent a special evening here. Spent so much money for food that honestly could've been thrown together at home in 10 mins.
