Rumi is widely celebrated as a charming destination that offers an authentic and flavorful journey through Middle Eastern cuisine in a beautifully decorated setting. Guests frequently praise the restaurant for its warm, welcoming atmosphere, attentive service, and high-quality dishes like the lamb shank, kefta, and various mezze plates. The terrace is often described as a magical, lush space that enhances the dining experience, making it a perfect spot for romantic dates or group celebrations. While experiences are overwhelmingly positive, the restaurant remains a beloved gem in the Mile End, recognized for its generous portions, professional staff, and the vibrant, artistic spirit that defines its unique identity.
lunchtime & i was the first customer. i was welcomed on entering & asked if i wanted to be inside or outside. the day was breezy & humid, with storms threatening but it was warm inside, although i was told they'd turn on the AC if i sat inside. i choose to be outdoors on their lovely terasse & didn't regret it.
they offer a beautiful table d'hôte at an extremely reasonable price, which my dining companion chose, & had i not been eating dinner out as well that day, i would have chosen, too. i had the Iranian Chakchuka, which was delucious & filling. but i could not, & you should not, resist the ice-cold, gorgeous fruit soup for dessert. i look forward to a return visit soon!
Wha an amazing discovery! This place is a little hidden gem, full of good juju & amazing flavours! Lamb kafta, mixed rice & djaj meshwy were incredible. The meat
literally melted in the mouth & the rice was cooked to perfection & paired amazingly with almonds & raisins. Mint tea was authentic & beautifully served. Cannot recommend this place enough!
It was amazing! As soon as you enter, you feel in the Middle East, the decoration is beautiful, the atmosphere is calm but also with joy. The staff very kind!! We are definitely coming back because we want to try more things.
We ordered the hummus with pesto & naan bread, Beirut beer, Kefta beef & agneau & some baklava for dessert. We paid around $115 + tips
The portions are big, we didn't finish our plates so we asked for a box to take home.
Everyone was having a beverage with mango & tea, I will try that next time.

I ate so well yesterday 😋
I was genuinely surprised by how generous the food portions were. The dishes were flavorful & tasty, with a beautiful balance of sweetness, salt, & seasoning.
The decor & lighting immediately immerse you in the restaurant's traditional ambiance. There were live performers playing traditional music, which made the experience even more special.
We also had the traditional tea service, which left me in awe-it was such a beautiful & intentional moment.
The earthy flavors, generous portions, rich tastes, decor, & music truly transported me into their world & culture. I believe it's Persian, though I wish I had confirmed because the experience was unforgettable.
They absolutely nailed their vision & mission.
We had a delightful dinner here to celebrate my daughter's 19th birthday! We had a good sized group- 8 of us- & the staff were so welcoming. It is a beautiful restaurant, with a lovely & cozy atmosphere & the food was absolutely delicious. We ordered a number of mezzes & a few main plates & everything was fabulous! We definitely plan to return many times over!
Rumi Restaurant in Montreal offers an enchanting dining experience with its warm ambiance & delicious Middle Eastern cuisine. The flavors are rich & authentic, beautifully presented, & the staff are attentive & friendly. The cozy atmosphere makes it perfect for both intimate dinners & group gatherings. A true gem for food lovers seeking a taste of the exotic. Highly recommended!
We heard about this Mediterranean halal restaurant & my friends & I had to try it! We really enjoyed the food & the service by Mr. Shaker. He was very welcoming & took great care of us. Must try their octopus & fried haloumi. The ambiance was quite cozy with tribal decor. They have a beautiful terrace garden for summer brunch. We will be returning soon!
Beautiful setting & atmosphere. Servers were helpful. I was disappointed with their signature dish, the lamb shank'Fez', which I found tough, dry, & stringy. & expensive! Also the vegetables were a little undercooked, & there could have been more of them. What do carrots cost? Mussakaka was good. $115 for 2, without alcohol.
All was very delicious & we got a fine welcome. There was only one person waiting on tables indoors & on the beautiful terrasse, still we were able to have a leisurely lunch & got everything we asked for with a smile.
This was a return visit with my group of friends since our winter visit was an excellent experience.
