Restaurant Rumi offers you a culinary experience of the Silk Road that once crossed Central Asia and the Middle East. A route that linked cities, oases and markets... great traditions, formidable kingdoms.
The Silk Road was also the route of spices, generous in fragrance and flavor. We invite you to be inspired by the spirit of the travelers, merchants and pilgrims who, for centuries, exchanged goods, riches and important cultural elements.
A spirit of discovery and openness.
We aim to create a hospitable atmosphere conducive to meaningful encounters. A setting in which to take the time to restore oneself in the sense of regaining strength and meaning.
As far as possible, our cuisine favors local, organic and sustainable agriculture. All the meat we serve is halal.
We give priority to fresh, local produce.

Everything was great. The mezzes were really good, the juices were delicious & the main plates were exceptional. The chicken & the lamb were very well presented & they were delicious & the rice was so good, it separated nicely & it was aromatic & perfectly seasoned.
There was this one thing that I found particularly amazing though:
A couple of backpackers walk in, with a bunch of bags & they sit on a pretty nice table, close to a window. When their waitress comes see them they tell her they just want to drink something & they ask her what the cheapest item on the drink menu is, they order a tea.
The owner was there. When the waitress went make that tea, he walks right to them & greets them, with the biggest smile I've ever seen. They told him they were just travelling & seeing Montreal.
His reaction amazed me:
From a relatively expensive place on the Mile End, I would probably (sadly) expect some attitude towards cheap customers, but he was so nice & so kind to these guys. He told them than travelling was a great thing, he told them if they ever needed anything he'd be happy to help, he told them not to hesitate to come see him if they encountered any difficulty during their stay in Montreal. What a difference from other "fancy" restaurants where you get half food & half attitude!!
Regardless from the food I'd totally go back there again just because they're amazing people. Not to mention the food *IS* really good.
