Restaurant Rumi offers you a culinary experience of the Silk Road that once crossed Central Asia and the Middle East. A route that linked cities, oases and markets... great traditions, formidable kingdoms.
The Silk Road was also the route of spices, generous in fragrance and flavor. We invite you to be inspired by the spirit of the travelers, merchants and pilgrims who, for centuries, exchanged goods, riches and important cultural elements. A spirit of discovery and openness. We aim to create a hospitable atmosphere conducive to meaningful encounters. A setting in which to take the time to restore oneself in the sense of regaining strength and meaning.
As far as possible, our cuisine favors local, organic and sustainable agriculture. All the meat we serve is halal.
Rumi is described as a warm, inviting spot with beautiful décor and a Middle Eastern vibe, where generous portions, flavorful mezze and main courses, and fresh ingredients meet attentive, friendly service. The atmosphere is cozy and often lively, sometimes enhanced by live music and a charming terrace garden, making it suitable for intimate dinners as well as groups and celebrations. Guests repeatedly note excellent service, accommodating staff, and good value for the quality, with dishes ranging from hummus and halloumi to lamb shank and merguez highlighted as standouts. The tea service, desserts, and overall balance of sweetness and spice add distinctive touches, and the space feels welcoming to families and friends alike. Overall, Rumi emerges as a reliable go-to for diverse flavors, a festive yet comfortable ambience, and a dining experience that invites return visits.
I had high expectations of this place but they weren't all met
To be fair the service was excellent, we got our order ready in less than 15 minutes & the atmosphere is great, crowded & a bit noisy but still nice
The decorations are cozy
About food:
I ordered the muhammara, it was delicious & on point but 10$ for a very small mini plate & u need to order the bread separate for 3$
I also tried the KHoudra plate it honestly lacked flavor & the veggies was undercooked, this is a main dish but it definitely doesnt fill u up i dont recommend it it was bland
The fatoush was not as it should be, barely one piece of tomato in the whole bowl & it was all lettuce!
Anything on the menu was overpriced it just felt to me like a rip off
My friends went 2 years ago & said 2 cold mezzas were offered with the plate but now u need to buy them separate for 10$ each. Thats a disappointment.
We had a wonderful evening at Rumi Restaurant. I was in the habit of going there very often the past twelve years or so (it was my favourite restaurant in Montreal), but the last two times I was there (over six months ago), I noticed a decline in the quality of the food & ambience. This last time, I was delighted to find the old Rumi! Thank you for offering us a unique culinary experience, together with a taste of a traditional Islamic decorative ambience. Absolutely wonderful! The only negative point I can mention from last night was the music: instead of consistent traditional Islamic/Sufi music, there was a mixture with jazz that I found off-putting. The traditional Islamic/Sufi music is MUCH better & well-suited to the ambience Rumi uniquely offers.

I've been enjoying Rumi Restaurant & its courteous personnel for about a decade. Each time, the special combination of food (tastes & fragrances) & ambience (lighting, music, & decorations) offers an exceptional & delightful treat of a sensory wonder. One is given a genuine taste of the Islamic world under the aegis of the restaurant's patron, the great sage Rumi, which in turn touches something truly universal in the human state. Never disappoints!

This restaurant has a nice, relaxing ambience, friendly service & a very beautiful interior decoration according to its name, the wonderful poet RUMI. The food is delicious, esspecially if you are into mezze, lamb & mouth-watering rice dishes like me! Plates such as MALIK ("king") are served in an eye-catching oriental manner. The mint tea makes a wonderful dessert (& there are more sweet choices if you have a sweet tooth). There was a mixed laid back crowd eating there, I d say perfect for any occasion whether group, families or couples. The only suggestion as it gets colder is to make sure to close the doors as it was getting really chilly in the evening (terrasse was still open & waiters served inside & outside on this September evening).
I warmly recommend RUMI 💖
