We ordered to pickup, we'll We were disappointed at the gravy, it was not the original recipe, it tasted watered down...please bring back your original recipe that's what makes chalet bbq different from others.
This isn't the hottest spot, nor is it any better than your Swiss Chalet, but it was well priced. Gravy was very nice, poutine too. I like the spot, but it's not high on the list of places you have to visit. Either way, I approve. 3.8 on 5.
I live in Bondi Beach Australia & it's been 20 years since my last visit there. Of course I made a beeline for Chalet BBQ & it was miraculously as good as I remember it. I hope it still is today. My sister & I, who grew up near the restaurant located on Decarie used to be taken there on special occasions. I still remember the motto,'When chicken such as this is served, A person never lingers, He sets aside his knife & fork & eats it with his fingers'. Oh for a taste of that gravy. I search longingly online to see if there will ever be a recipe. I may never make it back to Montreal in my lifetime & it saddens me to think I'll never taste one chip dipped in gravy again or piece of that amazing barbecue chicken. Someone post a recipe!!
I was finally able to try out this local rotisserie, & it is fairly comparable to the others in the neighborhood or the larger chains. The menu is a little more limiting as it is only chicken, they specialize & they make a great rotisserie chicken, so you go here to have that. I would say that I did not love the gravy as much as other places & they do not include coleslaw in their take out order. I did find the chicken to be quite good, the leg or breast meal is probably what to go for as the hot chicken was less good when taken out. I did like that they deliver in a box, no cloth bags & that they only include cutlery when requested, so some nice eco practices. The delivery was also very fast. Overall, it is a good place to order from, very similar to the bigger chains but local.
The best rotisserie chicken. This place is the OG of chalet style chicken. The gravy/chicken sauce is so good it's drinkable. & the coleslaw is so amazing because the cabbage is perfectly sliced & not weird little pieces, it's like lace. Can't say enough about this place. Forget st-Hubert & forget Swiss chalet. This is the place!!
I have been eating the ( in my opinion) world's best BBQ Chicken since I was a child. Am 76 now, & Chalet BBQ still has the best Chicken, Fries & distinctive gravy available anywhere. Nothing compares to Chalet BBQ!

When you walk up to this place, you can tell that it stands on decades of tradition & reputation. Starting with the retro street sign which you never see for restaurants anymore, & the building style from the exterior. It is physically built to feel like a Chalet in the city. The prices are reasonable, amazing that they've been able to stay in business all these years while charging reasonable prices - other restaurant-owners, take note! Turns out, serving the same dish for 80 years results in masterful perfection. Every part of the quarter chicken dinner was delicious & well-balanced. The gravy really has a rich, fantastic flavour that compliments the chicken very well. The food doesn't take too long to come out either. Service here is great too.
Best roast chicken, french fries & gravy on the planet. Grew up in Montreal but return home every summer for Chalet BBQ. Absolutely THE BEST!
Decided to try out the place with my boyfriend & was very disappointed with the food & the floor manager's customer service skill. We ordered the Chicken Leg with a coleslaw & a hot Chicken. The Coleslaw was more vinegary than creamy & was very soupy, the Chicken was fine but the gravy had a strange taste. When we complained to the manager about the quality of our food we were reprimanded for not asking for another meal instead of wanting a discount on top of getting excuses after excuses on why the meal wasn't to our taste. Gravy tasted weird? We used the same gravy for all our meals! When we said we didn't like the coleslaw we were told it's "not the one they usually use" which makes me wonder if it means they get them pre-made, & if yes why don't they make it in house? Anyway the waitresses were amazing but it is a shame the food quality isn't there & how we were treated when we pointed it out.

Been wanting to try this place for years & today it finally happened! I absolutely love the decor inside. It feels like your grandmother's cottage. Staff was ultra friendly & the food service was super fast. I have to say that they're gravy is quite possibly the best gravy I've ever had in my life.the rotisserie chicken & french fries were also right on the money. Really lovely experience & I will definitely go back soon. & yes, they still offer free chicken necks! All you have to do is ask. Crazy!
Came back to here after a couple of years & it's even better than I remember. The gravy has got this special something about it that compliments the chicken so well. The chicken breast is the juiciest I've ever had. Combined with the homestyle fries & slaw, this place is one of the few institutions of Montreal that need to be preserved. You walk into the restaurant & it's like a time machine to a different time in Montreal. A nostalgic dining experience with top notch rotisserie chicken.
Very cozy place to grab a nice meal & enjoy the service. It was my first time visiting Montréal & we needed a nice meal before heading back home. This place came about & we decided to try it. It was a great choice! The food was delicious & filling, & our waitress was wonderful. The waitress was very friendly & gave us recommendations to save some money. Their gravy has a hint of heat. Their fries were crispy & very palletable. Chicken soup was perfect to warm up. I liked their water pitcher. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of their water pitcher. Go & check it out.
The chicken was so good! Well seasoned & very juicy. The gravy they give you is a bit spicy but was amazing. My waitress was super friendly.
