Chalet Bar-B-Q has been a family favorite for a generation. They are very friendly & helpful for our larger group of 20. The food was delicious & brought back memories of past visits.
Always a nostalgic meal at Chalet Bar-B-Q, a must-visit when we return home for comforting & familiar Montreal food, along with smoked meat & bagels, of course! The decor is dated but that is what makes it so charming. Chicken is always perfectly cooked - they are the only ones in Montreal still allowed to use charcoal, & their's is red cherrywood. It complete elevates the chicken. French fries are plentiful & perfect, especially with their nonstop supply of sauce. I want to also mention Tina, our server, who is joy personified & the most attentive waitperson imaginable. She took the best possible care of us & we left with full bellies & smiles on our faces.
Love this chicken, love the fries & sauce. The best part of Chalet bar-b-q? Tina. Outstanding service, always with a smile & welcoming- even at the very end of the day. Thank you Tina for taking care of us!
The best barbecue chicken in Canada. Always delicious. Chrisi outside moist inside the french fries are to die for & the sauce is tangy & savory
I live in Bondi Beach Australia & it's been 20 years since my last visit there. Of course I made a beeline for Chalet BBQ & it was miraculously as good as I remember it. I hope it still is today. My sister & I, who grew up near the restaurant located on Decarie used to be taken there on special occasions. I still remember the motto,'When chicken such as this is served, A person never lingers, He sets aside his knife & fork & eats it with his fingers'. Oh for a taste of that gravy. I search longingly online to see if there will ever be a recipe. I may never make it back to Montreal in my lifetime & it saddens me to think I'll never taste one chip dipped in gravy again or piece of that amazing barbecue chicken. Someone post a recipe!!
For over 16 years, Chalet Bar-B-Q has been my go-to spot for consistently amazing & fresh food. The quality hasn't wavered a bit through the years, maintaining their high standards that first drew me in. Every visit reaffirms my love for their perfectly cooked, flavorful dishes. The atmosphere is always welcoming, & the staff makes each meal feel like a homecoming. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a reliable, delicious dining experience. Chalet Bar-B-Q never disappoints!
One should note that the dinning room closes at 9PM. Only takeout section is open till 10PM. Chalet Bar-B-Q is what your Anthony Bourdain dreams are made of! Only a handful of places like this scream "Montreal" like Céline Dion. Chalet puts St-Hubert chicken & french fries to shame. In addition, their desserts will have you wet like a 12 yers old obsessed kid at summer camp.
Chalet Bar-B-Q is one of the best places to get roast chicken here in the city. The last time I was here was probably a while ago but I hope to eat in this restaurant when this pandemic is over. From What I remembered. The service is decent because it was not as crowded as it used to be it was on a weekend as well but pretty busy. The chicken, fries side dishes were delicious & cooked to perfection. I had no issues with the food for dining in at the time. The last time I was there 5 years ago & it is one of my favorite chicken places in the city. The only thing is that it is pretty far for me since it is located close to downtown but in the N.D.G. area. However it is walkable from Villa-Maria & Vendome metro. There is also parking in the street & at the back. During the pandemic their times have changed & I believe they only accept takeout & delivery but no dining. 28 July, 2024 20:00. This Chalet BBQ is the best chicken place in the city. Pros: A) Our make server don't know his name is bilingual & very polite he is a male. B) The Cesar salad as a starter was good & simple & the chicken soup was hot & not like warm. Both were delicious. C) The chicken & baked potato were delicious & seasoned perfectly especially the chicken. D) The location is perfect as it's near the highway & not far from Vendome Metro. Cons: A) Washrooms is old & needs renovation. B) Parking is pretty tight but it's nice that they have parking for clients. Other than that. This a hidden gem & I want to comeback to visit & show tourists & visitors this chicken spot is the best in MTL. God Bless!!! In the future I hope to try & check it out. It was voted one of the best roast chicken restaurants by CTV & many chicken fans alike. A great recommendation & hope you guys can try it. One of the best roast chicken places in the 514 area.
I always make a point to come here on my trips to Montreal. My grandfather who I never met, passed away at a young age. He used to frequent this incredible restaurant & I feel like I keep his spirit alive by eating here. The food is always delicious & this time the leg lunch special was mouthwatering!!! I will forever adore everything about Chalet Bar-B-Q. That will keep my spirit alive a little longer too haha. Thank you!!!
Alarmingly filled with people just as old as the places reputation, the waitress was very sweet & kind & even offered us refills since we clearly didn't enjoy our food, we barely touched our plates & they were mostly full by the time we were done, when we asked to talk to someone about the quality of the food & our poor experience (especially since our dinner for 2 was 50$) we were lectured about asking to change dishes next time & wait even longer to eat. Despite being polite, the manager tried to argue & grift from us & only comped the taxes on our meal (9$) despite wasting the large majority of our dinne
You know those early 2000's vampire movies with lots of shiney clothing, karate, & octogenarian character actors portraying vamps from "pure blooded" lineages with names like Dorian? Well, Swiss chalet & the like are very much daywalkers compared to Chalet bar b q's charming but dangerous baddie. The fries are outstanding, too.
This is a Montreal institution in terms of Bar-B Q chicken. Un equalled , best Bar-B-Q chicken in the province & most likely in the country. A must for everyone, don't hesitate go & you'll be pleased you got a taste of it & regret for not going earlier.
Chalet bar BQ this place is the best place for food you must come here & have a meal it is number for a reason the food is done right & the flavours are to die for I highly recommend this place so gather your family & friends & even people that let town tell them to drive back to get that amazing taste of chalet bar BQ they will be hooked a Montreal staple & did you know that the restaurant is 80 years old & still going strong you must ask yourself a question what is there secret to there success with this one restaurant magical place to come & experience real authentic food .Chalet bar BQ number in my books & can't be beat .
Chalet Bar-B-Q is a forever favorite. It is what it is & loved by many, many Montrealers. We travel all the way from St. Lazare occasionally to eat or pick up a chicken & fries from take-out. Latest visit was after a show in downtown Montreal.
Best chicken in town done the real way no gas & you will taste the it when you try. Warning the other chicken places will all taste bad if you compare to Chalet Bar-B-Q

À mon avis, la ressemblance se limitait au regard allumé & au sourire bienveillant. Dans tous les cas, ça pouvait se prendre comme un compliment. Habillé d'un pantalon noir & d'une chemise blanche à l'instar des autres employés aux tables, nous avons été gentiment & patiemment assistés par ce même Youssef qui s'est livré à quelques brins de conversation à mon grand plaisir. C'est ainsi que j'en ai appris davantage sur ce vénérable restaurant qui soufflera bientôt 80 bougies en juillet. Autrefois célébré comme lieu où l'on pouvait déguster du délicieux poulet cuit au charbon de bois avec une bonne grosse pinte de bière jusqu'à tard dans la nuit, l'horaire & l'offre alcoolisée se sont assagis, mais le poulet & sa sauce magique demeurent des classiques immuables. Ces derniers attirent simultanément jusqu'à trois générations de la même famille aux confortables & intimes banquettes du Chalet installées le long des murs. On relate qu'il n'y a pas souvent de jeunes visages curieux comme le mien & celui de mon amie. Le menu semble certes dater d'une autre époque, mais... & puis ? C'était délicieux naguère & ce l'est encore aujourd'hui ! Certains jours, il y aurait même encore des files pour entrer, & la cause n'est certainement pas le manque d'espace. Alors, pourquoi ne pas faire comme nous ? Allez-y à deux, trois, quatre amis, faites venir comme minimum une entrée d'ailes de poulet, un quart de poitrine ou de cuisse, selon vos palais, & un sandwich chaud servi avec de bonnes frites. Apaisés par la nourriture, savourez un instant de tranquillité dans cette ambiance feutrée & chaleureuse. Votre estomac, rassasié, vous remerciera, de même que votre portefeuille ! Un repas complet & savoureux pour 25 $ ou moins. Truc du connaisseur pour économiser : sautez dans votre machine à voyager dans le temps, insérez « 1944 » pour l'année, & ne déboursez plus que 10 cents.
Chalet Bar-B-Q exceeded my expectations! The chicken was impeccably cooked, bursting with flavor. The ambiance was delightful, & the service was top-notch. If I could, I'd give it 6 stars on Google Maps. Highly recommended!
