Dine in to experience a restaurant that hasn't changed its decor in half a century, which is part of what makes it so fun. Fun, friendly staff.
An absolute must for anyone who loves good rotisserie chicken... even better: their sauce!! Absolutely incredible.
My favorite part of visiting Chalet BBQ, though, is the decor... i'm sure nothing has changed in about 40 years... brown wood everywhere (including the walls!), tacky art on the walls, cramped orangebooths... even the dinner plates are vintage, I swear! Feels like stepping back into the'80s. Seriously iconic stuff. It feels JUST right, along with the waitresses who've worked there for ages (some may SEEM grouchy, but if you're sweet enough, they call you'hun' or'my love!'), & unbeatable food, this is one of my favorite nostalgic spots.
Chalet BBQ has always been a Montreal classic, but it's not quite what it used to be. The chicken doesn't have that nice crispy skin anymore, & instead of falling off the bone like it once did, it sometimes feels undercooked or just not cooked quite right. The fries can be hit or miss - sometimes decent, other times not nearly as good as years ago. On the plus side, the service & decor are still fine, but overall the food quality isn't what it once was.
Always a nostalgic meal at Chalet Bar-B-Q, a must-visit when we return home for comforting & familiar Montreal food, along with smoked meat & bagels, of course! The decor is dated but that is what makes it so charming. Chicken is always perfectly cooked - they are the only ones in Montreal still allowed to use charcoal, & their's is red cherrywood. It complete elevates the chicken. French fries are plentiful & perfect, especially with their nonstop supply of sauce. I want to also mention Tina, our server, who is joy personified & the most attentive waitperson imaginable. She took the best possible care of us & we left with full bellies & smiles on our faces.
Vraiment pittoresque un incontournable excellent repas services courtois ambiance & decor charmants.
Excellent chicken bbq in the traditional fashion. Very delicious. Vintage & original decor. We are regulars
The best place for chicken in Montreal. Moist, juicy & the sauce, the best. The decor & the waitress uniform is like going back in time.
My best memory is bringing my grandmother back there a few years ago, as she lived on Girouard street in the 1950s, she said the recipe has not changed.
Love love love Chalet BBQ. We often go once a week. The food is predictably good, the staff warm friendly & attentive, & of course that timeless decor. It's nice that somethings in life don't change. Please don't ever close your doors - ever!
Food: delicious Decoration: outdated & gloomy (needs more lighting) Staff: can hardly put on a welcoming smile due to being overworked?
Been wanting to try this place for years & today it finally happened! I absolutely love the decor inside. It feels like your grandmother's cottage. Staff was ultra friendly & the food service was super fast. I have to say that they're gravy is quite possibly the best gravy I've ever had in my life.the rotisserie chicken & french fries were also right on the money. Really lovely experience & I will definitely go back soon. & yes, they still offer free chicken necks! All you have to do is ask. Crazy!
Best chicken breast & fresh coleslaw I ever had in a restaurant. The large cup of sauce is perfect & adds to their whole delicious ensemble. Awesome service, even if it was end of day, it was super friendly... you know when you want friendly service in a restaurant, treat them how you want to be treated & you get the respect right back. The waitress deserved her 20% tip! They are celebrating their 80th anniversary this year... found out yesterday evening that my friend Ken worked their as a teenager about 40 years ago... he was explaining to us how they used to make their coleslaw, BBQ Chicken & he still loves the place after all these years... After talking with our waitress everything is made just like back in the day! If you're looking for Montreal's best chicken, look no further... The decor inside is old school (1960's), but it has it's charm, reminded me of my childhood in the 80's. The lighting is a little dim, but it has its charm, it goes well with the design of the place. You feel like you walk in a Montreal 80 year old business... I'm not saying age is a bad, but in their case, it's what attests it's food quality... 80 years of perfecting the art of roasting chicken. I took a picture on their menu... nothing complicated, they KNOW their chicken! We are in 2024, not 1944, so it's normal that portions have changed, prices too... but how many places in 2024 in Montreal offer fresh delicious meals under 15$? I have no idea why I've waited so long to come taste this institution in Montreal? I will most definitely will be back & I hope they will still be around in 20 years to celebrate their 100th anniversary!
Cozy family spot! Love the decor & service was really nice! Food is delicious too!
If this is not a'Heritage Montreal' site, it should be. Hands down the very best chicken in Montreal. As soon as you walk in the smell will have you salivating. Fries are awesome! Time machine decor is perfect. Polite friendly service.
Le meilleur poulet de Montréal. La sauce en double évidemment. Vieux décor mais toujours rempli de clients satisfaits. Coin Sherbrooke & Décarie...ça vaut le détour. Stationnement à l'arrière. Taken out aussi.
A fixture of the NDG neighbourhood for the 80 years, this restaurant is still going strong serving up some of the best rotisserie chicken. This place has that old school restaurant decor with the vinyl clad booth seats & wood wall panelling. Food was piping hot & delicious - staff are perfectly bilingual. I highly recommend this place for that classic Montréal restaurant experience & top-class rotisserie chicken.
Super poulet!! Belles portions! Bravo! À l'équipe du Chalet BBQ!😋👍
It's still the one....best BBQ chicken in our books! Very attentive service. Homey decoration, knotty pine. Challenge: Find the roosters in the decor 😀
You come here for the old style chicken.
Service is fast but the decor has not changed in past half century. Do not expect a fancy place.
Poulet Poulet Poulet ! sur charbon de bois ! Vraies Patates frites bonnes portions, soupe délicieuses. Décor d'antan mais c'est le charme de cet endroit ouvert depuis 1944. & pas cher pour le Mmmm !
