Romies is described as a stylish, vibey spot in Old Montreal with a beautiful terrace that many reviews say is perfect for dates or celebrations. The service is often praised for being friendly and attentive, though a few experiences mention slow or inconsistent service, especially on busy nights. The food is generally regarded as delicious and well presented, with frequent highlights including fried zucchini, pasta alla zozzona, crudo, focaccia, rib eye, and a standout dessert scene featuring chocolate cake or blackout cake. Some readers feel the prices are high for the portions and value, and a number of dishes arrive not as hot as expected or can be a little heavy on richness. The ambiance, decor, and open kitchen vibe create a memorable experience that many say elevates the meal, though the noise level and crowds can be a downside for some. Across reviews, Romies is seen as a place with strong positives in food and atmosphere, and a willingness to return for the terrace, cocktails, and signature dishes, while the occasional critique centers on price, consistency and service during peak times.
Food 1/10 ( super oily super buttery, basically anything to cover up)
Ambiance 6/10 (lighting is cool, location as well)
Service 7/10 (friendly staff made the experience better)
Really disappointed :( I had great experiences here, & this was my 3rd time going to Romies but it's going to be the last one unfortunately.
The service was completly lacking & unattentive. The waiters never came to refill our water during the 2 hours that we were there. She also got my order wrong.
I took the pasta alla zozzona & this time it was not good. The sauce was really acidic too.
We were 4 people & the others did not really love their food either.
At this price point, good service & good food should be consistent.

Attentive & friendly staff. Food was very good & the plating was very nice.
Shared five appetizers between four people & then had the steak & pasta as a main meal. Walked out stuffed.
The cocktails were nice. bees nees is a must try!
Chocolate cake & a coffe were a perfect ending to our meal.
Would definitely go back!
Wanted to like this place, but definitely overrated. They don't know how to cook a steak at all. The burger was also so salty & greasy that it fell apart. The pasta that everyone gets is also a gimmick. Fried zucchini is ok, but the serving you get is smaller than what you see online. Chocolate cake was the best thing on the menu. Good service, tho would't recommend.
I'm not sure how this place get bad reviews. Probably people went to this place on a busy evening? I went here early like one of the first customers on Tuesday evening & I have the best time ever in a restaurant in Montreal!
The service is superb & the food is delish! Every dishes that I order are tasty. The only negative thing is that I order the fried zucchini & beef tartare & both have cream-cheese? So it doesn't balance each other. I have should have ordered something refreshing instead. But both dishes are so good especially the fried zucchini.
I also like the clam dish & the steak. Everything was cooked on point. The place is also beautiful in the right amount of light. If i had a restaurant, this would be the kind that I would have. Thank you romies team! You really made my night! ❤?
Went there for a dinner for 3 pax, 2 weeks ago. Came on a Tuesday night, the place was busy but not so much as to slow down the service.
We asked the server about a specific wine & after checking with the'Sommelier', she came back with a description of the wine as'Being funky but not too funky'......
While the server on table beside us was opening the wine bottle for the guests with the bottle squeezed between the crook of her arm & her left breast..... Not really appropriate in a'luxury' place.
After being asked if we were still'working' on our appetizer (3 different dishes, almost all done), we were served the main courses.
One fish, one beef tartare ( from the starter menu) & a plate of pasta with clams: not much to be wowed by with, missing salt on the beef tartare, which was served with the now classic'Écrasé de pommes de terres / semi-mashed potatoes with mayo, which were undercooked).
I cannot talk about the other dishes as I did not taste them.
Overall, an evening that can be improved both from the kitchen & mostly with better training for the service part.
Will not go back, too many good places in Montreal to go to instead of this one.
Our daughter Mia & son in law Stuart. married in the courtyard at Romies; followed by a phenomenal intimate reception. The service was top notch, the food was fresh authentic, plentiful & exquisitely plated. The cocktails were beautifully crafted. Thanks to Franck & Nick & staff for great collaboration & for making this day unforgettable. Mille grazie to our guests for a special evening we won't soon forget.
