Romies is described as a stylish, vibey spot in Old Montreal with a beautiful terrace that many reviews say is perfect for dates or celebrations. The service is often praised for being friendly and attentive, though a few experiences mention slow or inconsistent service, especially on busy nights. The food is generally regarded as delicious and well presented, with frequent highlights including fried zucchini, pasta alla zozzona, crudo, focaccia, rib eye, and a standout dessert scene featuring chocolate cake or blackout cake. Some readers feel the prices are high for the portions and value, and a number of dishes arrive not as hot as expected or can be a little heavy on richness. The ambiance, decor, and open kitchen vibe create a memorable experience that many say elevates the meal, though the noise level and crowds can be a downside for some. Across reviews, Romies is seen as a place with strong positives in food and atmosphere, and a willingness to return for the terrace, cocktails, and signature dishes, while the occasional critique centers on price, consistency and service during peak times.
We dined here on a Sunday evening, & the ambiance alone is everything. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful, but it doesn't stop there. Every dish we ordered was incredibly flavorful & perfectly balanced, we never thought zucchini chips could be that good! Our steaks were cooked to perfection, & the table was filled with constant'mmm's' & approving head nods all night long. We couldn't have been more satisfied with the entire experience.
Highly recommend dining here. We'd gladly drive from Toronto to Montreal just to enjoy this meal again!
honestly don't write bad reviews often, but this experience deserves one.
I chose Romies because I liked the restaurant. I've been there before, enjoyed the food & the vibe, & trusted them enough to plan a surprise dinner for a special occasion. That was clearly a mistake.
I reached out well in advance to coordinate something very simple. I contacted them multiple times:
- via Instagram DM
- via email
- & even in person, where I explained everything clearly
Despite all of this, I received no response for over a week. No confirmation, no follow-up, nothing. Planning a surprise is already stressful, & being completely ignored by a restaurant you're trying to work with makes it unnecessarily frustrating.
What's worse is that even after explaining everything clearly - including very basic, low-effort requests - absolutely nothing was done. We specifically asked for candles on the table. This was mentioned more than once, through different channels, & even acknowledged in person. When we arrived?
No candles. No preparation. No effort.
The surprise was essentially ruined, not because the request was complicated, but because the restaurant simply did not care enough to follow through.
If you don't want to accommodate special occasions, that's fine - just say so. If you're too busy to respond, say that too. But ignoring messages, failing to communicate, & then completely dropping the ball on the day itself is unacceptable, especially from a place that presents itself as polished & attentive.
This was especially disappointing because I went out of my way to choose Romies out of loyalty. Instead of feeling welcomed, I felt dismissed & overlooked.
Food & ambiance don't matter if the most basic level of professionalism is missing. If you're planning anything important, do yourself a favor & don't rely on this place to handle it.
I took the rest of my meal out & at home i found out that fries don't have good quality & i think drink was too pricey $$$
I ❤? atmosphere & staff were friendly.
Honestly an okay restaurant. You pay for the location & the instagrammy atmosphere. Everything is good. But if you serve the same plate in another city, it would be okay & half the price.
We had an amazing experience at Romie's. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, & our waiter Frank was truly exceptional! attentive, friendly, & professional. We'll definitely be back!
I have read some mixed reviews prior coming to Romies but I still wanted to give it a try during my recent visit to Montréal. Overall I like their food but there were some improvements I would like to suggest.
They didn't really have a big menu, & if they have printed on the menu I would have expected they were available to order. When I tried to order the steamed clams main dish, our server told us it was not available. & that's the only thing they didn't have on that day. I understand but also disappointed, why couldn't they told us right from the beginning? Rather than spending 15 minutes deciding what to order & then only to figure out it's not available.
The food tasted good in general but some of the items were not hot enough in my opinion. The fried zucchini was just warm but not hot. & the NY striploin dish, the side dish hashbrown also just warm but I wish it could be more hot & crispy.
The Brooklyn blackout cake looked good but I actually enjoyed their butter pecan sundae more.

La nourriture est bonne mais pas assez pour justifier le prix élevé. De plus, j'ai trouvé tous les plats un peu trop salés. Les cocktails sont bons. Ce ne fut pas une mauvaise expérience, mais je ne retournerais pas non plus.
The food was amazing & reasonably priced. The ambiance was very nice. I would give this 5 stars but the staff was unprofessional.
The host was talking to his colleague for 5 minutes before greeting me (I was standing in front just waiting for them to finish) & only gave one menu for a table of 7 people.
Very expensive with slow service. Filet mignon was served rare & we asked medium. Cocktails were extremely slow. The faut filet at 100$ was not impressive. Music way too loud
The service at this place absolutely sucks. Took 15mins for us to even be acknowledged by the staff & get water poured. Another 10mins to take drink orders. It took 30mins for one salad & another 45 for a burger & two pastas. Restaurant was 3/4 full.
Foods not terrible but adding lays chips to a caesar salad for crunch is absolute laziness. Make some Parmesan crisps or something - seems lazy. Burger was dry, pasta was ok.
The food was good & the space is very nice. I had the Courgette Frites which were excellent, definitely recommend. Also tried the pasta alla zozzano which was good but expensive for a plate of pasta ($34) with mostly sauce, cheese & bits of bacon. The chocolate cake is decadent & well worth it.
Service was a bit slow especially for our cocktails.
