Definitely the last time I will go there. There are many better statehouse in Montreal.
Booked a dinner date for Valentine's day, & it was horrible. It all started at the reception.
First, they are unorganized, & seems to call people's name in an non respecful way. The lady that walked us to our table mentioned (with a rude tone) before we got seated,'we have people booked on this table right after you for 10:30'. For reference, our reservation was for 8:30, we were at the entrance at 8:10, we got seated at 8:50, we got the menu 9.
We decided to put behind us & try to enjoy the rest of the evening.
It took me 2 seconds to notice the wine glasses were dirty, lips stained. We asked to be changed.
We ordered drinks, my Gf ordered a Manhattan & I ordered a scotch The Dalmore. Both drinks were brought but they didn't taste right. The Manhattan mixture seemed way off. But the real issue is have is with the scotch. I asked for a The Dalmore, not a blended Irish whisky. I drink whisky every day, my favorite whisky is The Dalmore, I have a large collection ranging from 12 year old to the King Alexander III. What they brought me was not a Dalmore.
The table next to us were arguing with a manager on the poor quality of the dish they got. The manager was loud as hell trying to give excuses. It felt awkward & barely could keep conversation with my Gf.
Once we were ordering our food, my Gf & I were discussingif we should go with tartare or calamari. The waiter gave us a lovely comment, with a beautiful facial expression, mentioning that what we ordered already seemed more than enough, & is a large quantity. I don't waist food, I haven't eaten for more than 36 hours, & he isn't paying the bill.
Our food arrived, it was 9:45. Tic Toc Tic Toc... we had to eat fast so the next clients don't wait after us. The steak was dry, unsalted, no pepper, no seasoning, with an after taste on the charcoalled side. Luckily, the rest of the food was ok. We managed to eat quick, pay the bill & leave at 10:36.
There was literally no one waiting at the entrance, multiple table empty.
I totally get that restaurants cannot have people sit for more than 2h. But what I cannot get is, how come less rated & much cheaper restaurants, that have better food, better service quality. You do not deserve the hype you are given.
Go to Moishes, Gibby's... those are real statehouse. Even The Keg will give you a better experience.
We came as a group of 5 on Friday night & I have to say, the best part of our experience was our excellent server, Sammi. Made us feel welcome, was great with recommendations & he made sure to call over the sommelier for wine recommandations.
The food was great, the fact that the dining room was more intimate made for a even better, calm dinner.
My only'problem' was that the plates weren't really hot so the food wasnt kept hot really long.

I ordered a rib steak, rare, it came medium. I sent it back they apologized & brought me a new one. It was still cold in the middle... I complained again & they took the same piece & over cooked it. I lost my appetite, I didn't eat the steak & I was still charged for it. Other than that the cesar salad, beef tartare & the sommeliers wine suggestion were fantastic. Ill be back but I was unimpressed with the steak.
If you're looking for the ultimate steakhouse experience in Montreal, Rib N Reef is the place to go! From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a warm, classy atmosphere & impeccable service that makes you feel truly valued as a guest.
The steaks are cooked to absolute perfection - tender, flavorful, & exactly the way you order them. The seafood is just as impressive, fresh & delicious, making it hard to choose between the two. The wine list is extensive & perfectly curated to complement the menu, & the staff are always knowledgeable with excellent recommendations.
What really sets Rib N Reef apart is the attention to detail. From table-side preparations to the elegant presentation of each dish, everything feels thoughtfully done & adds to the experience. Even the smallest touches, like the ambiance & the professionalism of the staff, make the evening memorable.
This is not just dinner, it's a full fine-dining experience. Whether for a special occasion, business dinner, or just treating yourself to the best, Rib N Reef consistently delivers excellence.
Highly recommended - absolutely deserving of five stars!
Was looking forward to going since i had heard so many good things, unfortunately i wS disappointed.
First the bread they gave us seemed stale…not warm…
The cole slaw & pickles nice touch.
Ordered Cesar salad for 2… didn't enjoy it something in the salad was leaving a bad taste in my mouth…didn't finish it.
Ordered a medium Filet mignon….didn't get what i ordered bleedy red…didn't want to complain but i couldn't it was too bloody our waiter agreed & had the kitchen cook it a little more…it was tasteless & tough…didn't like it.
Ordered the fries got potato wedges which were not completely cooked.
Asparagus were tasty.
No wine, no cocktails, no dessert …cost us 325$ with tax & tip.
Service was good but food 👎sorry will not return nor recommend.
First rate. I specifically chose them as apparently the only steakhouse on the Island grilling on real coal fires. Three of us shared a medium rare 34 Oz Porterhouse & two 2 lb. Maritime lobsters. Pommes Aligo & creamed baby spinach were delightful sides. Cold & grilled shrimp & delicately fried calamari served as appetizers. As my intention was to support Canada & Montreal we chose both white & red Quebec wines (ground $100 each) with the assistance of the knowledgeable sommelier. Desserts were Crème brûlée & crêpes Suzette, both perfect. After dinner drinks & smokes in the sophisticated cigar bar completed the experience. Service was perfect. Unobtrusive & respectful of our privacy, but ever-present to refresh our glasses & attend to our every need.
It was a flawless steakhouse experience from start to finish. Around $1200 CDN, but worth every Loonie for a memory that will last a lifetime.
Awesome meal, service & wine list. The steak poivre is fantastic. Old school French style recipe where they prepare the poivre sauce flambe style tableside. Great cut of meat with a nice crust on outside & cooked perfectly on the inside.
I've eaten at top steak houses around the country & this was one of the best steaks I've had in a while. Poivre sauce is 10/10.

Superb experience, the service & food was A1. Quite expensive but the quality of the meat & the overall experience was worth it. About 800$ for 5 people with 2 wine bottles. Note to admin : the link on the website button of the Google business page is broken.
Everything you could ask for & more! My husband & I went back to classic upscale Montreal steakhouse, Rib N Reef, for our wedding anniversary. He had the French Onion Soup Gratiné & I had the Lobster Bisque with chunks of lobster. Both were absolutely delicious. We both ordered the slow roasted Signature Roast Beef au jus with a side of garlic mashed potatoes. The roast beef was served a little under medium-rare as requested, & the best we've eaten. The mash potatoes were creamy & mouth-watering. We had a comfortable semi-circular booth all to ourselves from which to enjoy the lively ambiance. The staff was friendly & attentive, & the service polished. We indulged in some superb wine to celebrate the occasion. Rib N Reef's award-winning wine list, expertly curated by incomparable Manager-Sommelier & Montreal treasure, Patrik Schmidt, has something for everyone. By the way, Patrik Schmidt is a blast to talk'fine wine' with! Thank you to Rib N Reef & staff for an unforgettable evening! & a huge thank you to Patrik Schmidt! Can't wait to go back! If you want to be treated like royalty, this is the place. They prepare the salad & the crepes in front of you. The food is phenomenal & the wine cellar very impressive. From the valet parking & all the staff, everyone is very professional.
Very laidback steak house, good service, good consistent food. I've been going there for 15 years. The drinks are also really good drink & they have a good wine list. Why not fully 5 stars ? The valet parking... the restaurant is literally in a parking lot, just drop it or make them less agressive. I don't like people parking my cars & it's less convenient for me when I come with my kids. Every time it's a story of telling them I don't want valet ... I'm already in the parking I can get between 2 lines.
Went there expecting to have a great meal, knowing full well the final cost. Unfortunately we left disappointed! We were expecting far more at that price point. You can have better grilled octopus at any Greek place. The rib steak was mediocre, the rapinni were underwhelming. We were undecided between 3-4 wines & our waiter's recommendation wasn't to our taste (that's OK). My comments are connected to the establishment's price point, & our expectation of a quality meal.

If money is no object & you want the BEST seafood & steakhouse in town - & renown for years with this distinction by public option, then come here & be sure to make a reservation in advance. Here is why you come here. - impeccable service with above server to customer ratio & attention to detail. - the highest quality ingredients - the highest quality standard in a every aspect of the business - top quality Dry & wet aged USDA prime beef on premise & antibiotic free & corn fed - decades (63 years) of consistent success - classic dishes of past like made fresh in front of you such as Caesar Salad, steak au poivre sauce flambe in front of you, crêpes Suzette & cherries jubilee made in front of you & flambé fun, home made (the best in the city ) Apple pie with hand made small batch ice cream from "Glacier Bilboquet" & so so much more - a wine list any world class sommelier would be jealous of - table set up with super fresh breads of all types & bread sticks (unlimited) on the table, crunchy crisp kosher dill pickles, homemade Cole slaw, creamy cottage cheese all plentiful & unlimited. But the real experience is that it's all old school from the attire of the staff to the elegant rich wood interior & decor, to the ambient soft music in the background, to the respectful & happy staff who are amazingly attentive to make certain your experience is nothing short of exceptional. Everything is made in house & there are NO shortcuts at this establishment as it's all a la minute & fresh. The decades seasoned owner Peter has stuck to his principals like a religion & like a religion his patrons have remained loyal in return. There is no other steak place in the city that comes close as its many, many "cuts" above the rest on numerous levels. Must try's: - Rib steak ordered Chicago (charred on the outside) - Monte carlo potatoe with bacon - Caesar or wedge salad - order as a side, their peppercorn sauce for dipping & drizzling - thigh the steak need not any accoutrements to make it taste good, it's just the peppercorn sauce is wicked homemade delicious & a real treat to experience as it's also made in front of you - shrimp cocktail - apple pie a la mode for sure!!! - red wine, they have many & at practically every price point for good quality wines but my fav red is J. Lohr a Californian Cabernet Sauvignon you bc any go wrong. You can park yourself but they also have valet as well as you can take your coat to your table but they also have the classic coat check when you enter.
I went to Rib N Reef for a reunion last weekend. I was really looking forward to having our dinner there as the food was supposed to be amazing. We were 25 people in the wine cellar & we had a pre-set menu for the event. The service was very good, but the food...eh, not so much. We started with soup or salad. I had the ginger crab soup. Very salty, but I like salty so I didn't mind. Although a little spicy for my taste. Then there was either salmon, pasta or steak. I ordered the sirloin steak. It came with grilled vegetables & I chose the fries as my other side. What a disappointment! The steak was a bit tough & not a speck of seasoning on anything. Nothing. 100% bland. I had to laugh because the soup was so salty but the steak had nothing! Thank goodness they put some roasted garlic on the side & a salt shaker on the table! The veggies were good & the fries were just okay. Then we had caramel-drizzled chocolate cake for dessert...& coffee. I think the cake was the best part of the whole meal. Lol! Oh, & apparently the salmon was underwhelming as well. I'm just shocked that a high-end restaurant like Rib N Reef serves bland steaks. Anyway, the reunion was a lot of fun so that made it worth what we had to pay. But I would never go there again just for their food. There are a lot of places where you can get a great steak for less.
I went there on Feb 15th with my girlfriend for a valentine's dinner & we were both unhappy with our experience. I've been to Rib N Reef once before & it was good, but this time around our waitress was rude, the 28$ caesar salad was NOT good (they didn't charge me for it since we didn't eat it). Now for the best part we waited close to 2 hours to get our main dishes! I took a 14 ounce steak cooked medium & my girlfriend got the 10 oz Filet mignon medium rare, hers was beyond rare...she couldn't eat it. For 2 people, ended up being 160$ with tax & tip (NO WINE!!).
The worst part was how rude they were to me, after telling them I wanted to see a manager, my waitress told one of her friends (another waiter) he returned shortly & tells me out loud oh don't worry ill throw in dessert on me(in a very rude tone). After paying 160 for possibly my worst dining experience it's pretty clear I will never be returning.
From the moment you step inside Rib ‘N Reef, you know you’re in for a treat; the service is welcoming & the decor is elegant. My family & I recently went to celebrate a birthday, so obviously we went all out! We started off the meal with a bottle of white wine, that the waiter kindly suggested, & then ordered some appetizers. I ordered the Caesar salad; if you’ve been to The Rib before, then you already know that it’s prepared table-side. Not only was it entertaining to watch the waiter intricately prepare the salad before our eyes (the mayonnaise is made from scratch!), it was also delicious! For my main course, I had the scallops, & they were cooked perfectly, & tasted amazing! Of course, since I was there with family, we each had some “samples” of each other’s plates; each meal was succulent, & packed with flavour. Clearly, The Rib does both surf & turf very well! Overall, dinner at The Rib was a great experience; the staff was efficient, quick, & very friendly! I will DEFINETLY be back!
