Afficher toutchinese(45) rice(23) sauce(22) fried rice(20) chicken(20) beef(18) roll(13) fried(13) chinatown(13) prix(13) chow mein(12) soup(12)The food was just okay for me. I found most dishes too salty, & overall it felt like low?grade Chinese cuisine. Not terrible, but definitely not something I'd go back for.
Some of the best Chinese I've ever had. Fairly priced for the quality, 45per person with lots of leftovers. Plenty of options on the menu, we went with hunan/peanut butter dumplings, spring rolls, sesame beef, Cantonese chow mein, & shrimp in lobster sauce. Quality of the shrimp was fantastic, lobster sauce was delish poured over rice & noodles. Sesame beef was so tasty large pieces with good coating that is not too thickz Everything came out piping hot & the service was extremely attentive. Will come again for sure
Mary & her team are always wonderful to be greeted by & told about some of the specials that they are making. We started with the Hot & Sour Soup that can be had with it w/o pork if you're on a vegetarian diet. The two (2) of us had not tried the Ginger Lobster which is one of their signature dishes; as the lobsters are typically 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 pounds max & at $59.95 it is a pricey dish. But since we have not ordered it in over a year we dove in. The two (2) lobsters were closer to 1 1/4 lbs & well prepared but we remembered the ginger totally coating the shell & we found this lacking in our order - albeit the lobsters were delish. Instead of a Baby Bok Choy vegetable side, we were advised to try the Snow Pea Leaves that were to be lightly sautéed & seasoned with garlic. The dish did not disappoint. We decided against ordering their wonderful fried rice as we felt it would be too much & were right. All in all another very nice dining experience that makes us travel from the West Island of Montreal (+30 minutes at least) to enjoy the best Chinese Food in the city.'Do-Shay' To Mary & her highly attentive Staff!
The food is amazing, service is excellent. Wow, it becomes one of my favorite chinese restaurant. Everyone is smiling, the food is tasteful
According to records published by the province's Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries & de l'Alimentation du Québec (MAPAQ), Restaurant VIP, a Chinese restaurant at 1077 rue Clark, was ordered to pay $11,300 in fines following two recent infractions.
Amazing food! Authentic, chinese food with the perfect level of spice & sweet. So many flavors. We really enjoyed the yummy dishes here. The wait time was not bad. 10-15 minutes. But that is expected in chinatown. The service was good. It is a busy restaurant so expect to wait for everything. But it is worth it because the food is amazing. Slightly noisy. We ordered 2 starters & 2 mains for 2 people.
Same chef after 39 years & still the tastiest Chinese food we know of in Montreal or Brossard. Lots of traditional recipes plus the North American favourites. My father used to have their chicken feet when he brought us. They don't serve that anymore. Our favourites are: Cantonese rice, spicy shrimp, lobster, barbeque duck, & chicken with assorted stir-fry vegetables with chef's XO sauce. My kids' godparents loved their General Tao, chow mein & Spring rolls. I feel like/suspect that people who wrote bad reviews about VIP didn't actually eat here or got their knickers in a knot reading about a food inspector's report.
The chef makes great tasting, healthy food & is clearly made with - love, care & a lot of experience.
Being Jewish, it is a tradition to go to a Chinese restaurant on Christmas day. So we did the right thing & went to Chinatown & had supper.
We found parking within minutes. We left earlier than usual thinking parking would be tough, but it wasn't. We arrived at the restaurant, & took the last table.
For starters we had Single bowls of Won-Ton soup & the won-tons were firmly stuffed with pork & shrimp. Followed by (not shown) meat filled egg-rolls with Hunan Dumplings.
The main meal was Ginger Lobster, Shrimp with Chinese Broccoli, & Rice sticks with Beef, Green Peppers, & Onions, in Black Bean Sauce.
The restaurant was overloaded so there was a long pause between the starters & mains, but we didn't mind.
Servers were kind & friendly as usual.

Last night I took an edible & I had a verrrry specific craving for a nostalgic Canadian-Chinese meal (the ones my family would have only a handful of times a year growing up). The particular criteria for the meal was as follows:
1 - no-frills decor & plastic single-use tablecloths
2 - MSG-filled, glossy coated everything (chicken balls surrounded by a cm of dough, Cantonese chow mein that was crispy & soft at the same time, crunchy umami eggrolls with a sweet plum sauce)
3 - lazy Susans on massive tables for the vibe
4 - fairly empty/not busy, but a good mix of local groups/families & Chinese folks dining in the establishment
& they executed perfectly on every level. No notes.
The reason this place isn't rated higher is because people aren't going in with the right expectations. This isn't a typical Chinese meal, this is the Canadian-Chinese's take. & they do it so well at VIP.
On top of this, the service was awesome, the oranges at the end of the meal was a nice touch, & all in all, it was quite a good price for the insane portion of food they gave us. I'll be eating general Tao beef for the next four days.
Can't wait to come back!
Really flavorful & delicious Chinese food. Took a star off cause requested some soy sauce & duck sauce but came with none. Maybe Montreal Chinese doesnt have sauce packets? Would definitely order again
