Absolutely amazing. A must-try Ethiopian/Erythrean restaurant. I had a combination of 6 meat & vegetable dishes on top of a large piece of injera, & every single dish was tasty, generous & well seasoned. It all paired perfectly with the injera. They also gave me some spicy powder to dip the food in, & it brought everything to the next level.
Although the meal was a bit pricy for one person (around $40), I left full & happy. The whole experience felt like I was travelling to another country.
I was visiting from Toronto & craving some good Habesha food while in Montreal. After some searching, I found Nakfa Restaurant & decided to give it a try; & I'm glad I did! I ordered the combo for one, which came with a generous mix of meat & vegan options: white tibs, key tibs, shiro, cabbage, greens, salad, & a spicy red key siga wot called zigni. Everything was delicious & well-prepared; full of flavor & cooked perfectly. The portion was just right for one person, & I also enjoyed a nice cup of tea with the meal.
The service was good, though there's a bit of room for improvement. The space is quite small, & it wasn't easy to find a seat. I found the price a bit higher than what I'm used to in Toronto; I paid around $50 including a 15% tip; not sure why the difference, but the quality made up for it.
Overall, it was a great experience & a solid spot for authentic Habesha food in Montreal. Would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a taste of Eritrean/Ethiopian cuisine in the city!
The food is superb here, with the spices perfectly balanced. Between this place, Queen Sheba, & Nil Bleu, this one is my favorite. Prices are very reasonable: At $48, this plate (with another side of injera) served myself & my partner who did a half marathon this morning & needed 1500 calories intake. The last time I was here with 2 girl friends, we couldn't finish the plate. Service was warm & friendly; be prepared to wait for slow cooking if you arrive early, though it was well worth the wait.
I never leave reviews but I have been obsessed with this restaurant & its incredible food & lovely cook/owners. I have been driving from 5 hrs away & going back home with multiple meals because the food is seriously that good. The dishes are perfectly spiced & freshly made. The owners are so kind & hard working & flexible. I can't say enough about the opportunity to get to eat their food.
