It was our 3rd time & we thought everything tasted even better than the first 2 times. The menu concept has changed for the better as you get a soup, sides & a dessert with the main dish you order. The service & staff was very helpful & friendly! 10/10
Is this the downfall of Mukja???
I've visited this restaurant several times & have always enjoyed it, but our most recent visit was an absolute disaster. The service was amateur, unprofessional, & completely chaotic, easily the worst we've ever experienced anywhere-& it was painful to watch.
It took almost 20 minutes before we had to chase someone down to take our order, & people who arrived after us were served first. We had to flag down a waiter just to place an order, as if we were begging for attention.
We ordered a full meal with soup, banchans, main dish, & dessert. After 30 more agonizing minutes, we had to specifically ask for our soup because no one even planned to serve it.
Throughout the meal, we had to constantly chase our waiter for everything-water, condiments, clearing dishes. Staff walked past tables piled with empty plates as if they didn't exist. It was humiliating.
When dessert finally arrived, it was dropped on top of our dirty dishes because no one had cleared the table (even though when we were asked if we were ready for dessert the waiter walked away with empty hands leaving the dishes there & bringing the dessert instead....so weird)
Orders are scribbled on blue sticky notes in total chaos, with zero system, zero coordination, & zero professionalism.
Even with a full house, they were still taking delivery orders, leaving staff running around like chickens with their heads cut off, accomplishing nothing. They also looked extremely frazzled & miserable - arguably so.
Everyone at this restaurant waiting 45-60 minutes for their food. Everyone kept looking at each other confused at the chaotic setting. Every table seemed frustrated-some nearly left, others were waving their hands like schoolchildren begging for attention. It was beyond embarrassing; it was a masterclass in bad service.
There was no structure, no professionalism, & no basic customer care. Not once did a server check if we were okay or needed anything-they were in constant motion but achieving nothing.
Suggestions for improvement:
Service: Implement a real system. Assign one person to takeout, two people for tables. Take orders immediately, serve soups & banchans first, clear dishes without being asked, & check on guests proactively. This is basic restaurant management, not optional.
Décor: Comfortable seating, softer lighting, & some wall decorations would go a long way. The current bare, harsh environment only makes the chaos feel worse.
The food may still be good, but no one will remember the food with service this atrocious. As it stands, this place is headed for disaster if changes aren't made immediately. I love this restaurant & plan to return in a month to see if anything improves-hopefully this review can turn into a positive one. But right now, this experience was painful, humiliating, & completely unacceptable.
Pretty good korean restaurants. Menu has options that are pretty typical from a korean restaurants, rice dishes, soups, noodles. They are very generous with their side dishes. Highly recommend. Price seems to have increase a bit after their reopening however. Sadly not the most affordable korean restraurant that I've tried
We were happy to have been seated right away when we came on a Sunday night at around 18:00. This small restaurant got full not long after & a line was already forming. The service was professional & quite efficient but they weren't really friendly or really welcoming. The food itself was delicious. I really enjoyed the different combinations of flavours in each dishes & I also enjoyed the squishy texture of the rice cakes. The soup was bursting with flavours as well & the sweet & sour pork was flavorful too. The sauce they made accompanied the fried pork so well. The light crispness with the tender meat was just great. We ordered the small portion of the pork & it was surprisingly large which was amazing as well.
Overall terrible restaurant. Heard a lot of great things about this place so we went & tried it out. First of all it took the two waitresses around 5 minutes to seat us. After being seated we ordered the Jaeyuk & the Gamjatang. We received the Jaeyuk first, without any rice & the waitress told us the rice would be out in a minute (how am I supposed to eat?). We also needed to ask for the side dishes as the waitress forgot them… Then the soup followed (still no rice). When we finally tried the food we were extremely dissatisfied. The Jaeyuk is some random pork pieces bathing in oil & is straight up sugar. The gamjatang was ok but our meat was cold (inside the soup !!!), when we told our waitress she took our soup back to the kitchen & came back with it after reheating it (mind you we took the meat out to eat it, so we were left with boiling broth but still cold meat ?), also there was 1 singular potato in there. Side dishes were mid nothing incredible.
We left without finishing the food & when we paid we still paid full price, no compensation or anything to try to make it up to us (what usually happens when something is wrong with the food in a restaurant).
Anyways, I would not recommend the restaurant at all, terrible korean food & service. (i also checked the other customers & no one finished their dish)
We decided to eat here with my husband because we were craving Korean food, but unfortunately, we didn't enjoy it. It was overhyped. The soup was good but overly salty. The bibimbap was unappetizing, bland, slightly cold, & the lettuce didn't complement the dish at all. It was also too greasy for my taste.
The service was okay, but it took about 30 minutes for the food to arrive. If you're looking for authentic Korean food, I'd recommend Soopong on Queen Mary-you won't go wrong there.
💥💥💥
We tried this Korean restaurant, but the experience was rather disappointing. Overall, the dishes lacked flavor. The chicken was very greasy & bland, which completely masked any taste. The soup was also lacking in spices. The fried chicken, despite being presented as a chef's specialty, was dry & uninteresting in terms of flavor. The only dish that stood out was the tteokbokki.
Healthy Korean food. Not too salty & not greasy. Ordered the fried rice with shrimp which was delicious. Short rib beef soup & a seafood pancake
I recommend it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️The staff is friendly. The food is great. I wanted to get acquainted with Korean cuisine & it pleasantly surprised me. In cold weather, you can go here to warm up & eat hot soup. I will definitely come back here again.
Delicious Korean cuisine! They have a lot different opinions to try. I had the yeonpotang (octopus soup) & it was delicious. I definitely want to try more dishes. The kimchi pancake was good too but it was huge, I could not finish it! Amazing service & cozy atmosphere. Limited seats though!
Highly recommend this restaurant to everyone :) We ordered the octopus soup & kimchi pancake. The pancake was a bit sweet but not spicy at all - & omg it was a huge portion. So I'd recommend to share it. The soup surprisingly was amazing. It was my first time trying this kind in a Korea restaurant. I thought it might be fishy/strong taste but it turned out so good. The taste was mild & slightly sweet. Overall, everything was fantastic:)
Good comfort Korean meal. On windy & chilly Fall weather, eating a hot soup was ideal & comforting.
most things are pretty good & fresh, service is great, but their soup broths need more depth of flavour (I find them a bit watery) & everything needs to be spicier, the soups are always way less spicy & salty than at other places. last time, my mom got a chicken bibimbap & said the chicken was really chewy & flavorless & the sauce tasted like nothing :(
I think I have a new favourite restaurant. This place was so good. Service was quick, the person who took our order was so nice, the food came super fast, & it all tasted super fresh & delicious. I also really appreciate that they leave a whole jug of water on the table for you. Their prices might be unbeatable for Korean food in Montreal, especially considering the large portion sizes. We didn't expect to get banchan included with the meal at these prices but we were pleasantly surprised. The soju (flavoured soju too!) is also cheaper than other places I've seen, keep in mind though that you can't get it to go. We kept our orders pretty basic due to not having the biggest appetites at the time, but all of what we got was delicious. I'm especially looking forward to coming here in the winter for some of their soups. The tonkatsu was crispy & juicy, the rice was perfect, & all the sauces were great. I appreciate that it wasn't super heavy on the sauce (there are two layers of pork in the photo, so it's an appropriate amount of sauce). The jjajangmyeon was "very delicious, the noodles were so good" according to my partner. He thought the sauce was a thinner than what would be expected for this dish but that's more a comment, not a complaint by any means. Overall I highly recommend this place.
It was ok but just a bit meh. Nothing we ordered was outstanding & the deep fried chicken & pork was super chewy & not great. Porc bone soup & spicy tofu soup are better at most other places.
BIGASS PORTIONS The portions are to share between people, they are BIG Good amount of fish in the soup 💕👏🏽
They do soups so well here. I have been searching for a hearty Korean beef soup in Montreal for so long & I finally found it here. The side dishes are fresh & offer a contrast of acid, spice, & texture to the richness of the soups. I also had the fried chicken gizzard, fried nicely & the crunch remains even after a night in the fridge. Service is quick & thoughtful!
Great authentic Korean food, great value for money! Had tteokochi, naejangtang (intestine soup, rly hard to find elsewhere in mtl) & kimchi stew, all really good.
The kimchi stew is decently sour, my wife likes sour soups like tom yum etc & she loved it.
Also seems they renovated & feels more resto vibes now. friendly staff!
