The food here is very good. We tried the Griot, hummus, pintarde (guinea fowl) & spicy jerk chicken & all of them were extremely flavourful & unique. The spicy jerk chicken is actually spicy which I appreciated as well! I highly recommend this restaurant if you're in the area or as a place to go before a show at Place des Arts.
While the food was great I do have a couple of critiques: The cocktail menu while pretty extensive was very expensive & there was only one beer available (Corona), & the tables were not very good. Wobbly & the kind you'd find at a cheap breakfast restaurant or something of that nature.
None of these things really hindered the dining experience & like I said the food was amazing, but if there's anything to improve it'd be these.
Some of our food was good, some was not great.
Atmosphere is cramped & loud, there were flies flying around inside the restaurant. It's a nice spot & a nice place, just felt like they could improve here. The servers were nice, but they were very slow, they checked on us once to see if we liked the food, but then never came back to bring us more water or to see if we wanted dessert or anything.
We had the Tomato salad, Ceviche, Fried chicken, Jerk Chicken, Griot & Grilled fish as well as 5 cocktails.
The fried chicken was delicious, the Griot was some of the best in Montreal, but the jerk chicken was horribly dry, the chicken was TINY, it felt like I was eating quail.
The Jerk chicken is 25$ on the menu, but after getting home & looking at my receipt, they charged us 32$ per portion (we ordered two portions to share).
The grilled fish was supposed to be 40$, they charged us 45$.
We were also charged 2$ more per drink than what was priced on the menu.
The bill for 4 people ended up over 325$ (before tip) with 5 drinks, a bottle of soda water, 4 appetizers & 3 mains.
For the price, the experience we had was not worth it.
This is a little gem you must try. It might look like a tourist trap but it is not. The food is delicious, generous, colorful, flavorful & you need to try their cocktails!
In the heart of place-des-arts, right before (or after) a show, it is a great option.
Last time, we went for only three plates for two & we had plenty! Get the accras; the plate is to share & so generous with 10 variations. Delicious. The half jerk chicken is a classic for a reason (get it spicy!) & we enjoyed the griot.
Every time I try something different & never been disappointed.
Service rapide & courtoisie.
Pan-Carribean food met my high expectations & standards. Ceviche, GRIOT & the jerk chicken were wonderful. The server was accommodating, informational & dynamic enough for you to trust his judgement. Overall, a great experience. Will be back for more.
I am probably going to spell it wrong, but the "griot" was amazingly good. It's one meal I like to eat from time to time & this one was amazing. Tender & crispy outside. Corosol juice is a noce discovery & a Chef's Paul Sour is just sour enough with a nice rhum touch. The jerk chicken will satisfy most people who loves spiced food like me. The chef Paul Toussaint came himself to our table to ask avout our experience. I can only recommend this place! We will go again ;)
Sooo good! Food was delicious, staff were super nice & helpful, & the restaurant itself is beautiful with great vibes. Everything we got was amazing, but I especially recommend the griot & pork shank. Note about the pork shank though-it says to share for 2 but it's a big portion & quite rich (hard to tell from the picture). I think it's good to share between 3-4 people if you get some tapas as well. Loved this place!!

Merci!

Great experience & service. To start we had the griot & smoked cod chicktail & both were phenomenal. For mains, we had the jambalaya & the jerk chicken. The jambalaya was unfortunately a disappointment: the rice & the seafood were overcooked & the dish was much, much too salty. The chicken was good, but we found it a little lackluster compared with the bold flavours of the starters. Still, an overall good meal & lovely evening.

Whole thing was about average. Service was overall fine but food was lukewarm. Seating was beside bar with coffee grinder right behind our heads so quite unpleasant. It was busy & music fairly loud so very hard to talk. Chairs are not that comfortable inside. I had the option to sit on bench with cushions & regret not taking it. Of course as with everything these days food seems overpriced. For the Griot dish the pork was overcooked so bit dry & tough but flavour was good. Very spare on the accompanying veggies - "sauerkraut" side was so acidic it made me choke (& I love sauerkraut) & only a few thin slices of sauteed onions & peppers. It seemed a little chintzy. The fired plaintain were tasty but again cold so texture bit rubbery. The Gratin Lambi wasn't hot enough so cream was starting to congeal & there was some fish in there besides lambi which felt like "Filler". We were there early around 5:30 PM so not sure why everything was cold. The grilled fish as main dish was better than the tapas but super thin filet (whole fish not half thankfully) but sauce was very tasty but again lukewarm. The best part of all these dishes was the malanga puree accompanying the fish. Still lukewarm but it was great flavour & texture & went surprisingly well with fish. I may go there again just because of convenient location if you are catching show at Maison Symphonique. Too bad I was looking forward to finding a great Carribbean place & tasting the food of the much praised chef Toussaint.

Assiettes copieuse & bon rapport qualité-prix

Griot & Poisson Grille A+ ! Cocktails are very good & tropical as well.
