Review Summary

For Restaurant Bar 30 juin, diners describe a warm, welcoming atmosphere with a festive vibe, flavorful African cuisine and generous portions. The food is repeatedly praised as delicious and well presented, with standout dishes like goat, fufu, chikwangue, poulet mayo and yassa, and cocktails or sangria earning compliments. Service is often described as fast, attentive and friendly, with guests feeling at home thanks to patient, professional staff who explain the menu well. However, some experiences note slower service and longer wait times, occasional gaps in attention or tipping confusion, and even a missing item in a takeout order. Hygiene concerns appear in at least one review due to hair in a dish, and several comments mention the restaurant feels chilly when the door is open and the music can be quite loud at times. A few reviews mention prices relative to portions and occasional variation in accompaniment amounts, but many still say the restaurant is a gem worth returning to, praising the ambiance, genuine hospitality, and memorable dining experiences.

More plusses than minuses - good & unusual food, friendly knowledgeable staff, pleasant decor & music. Friendly fellow customers, some of whom seem to be regulars. Named for Congo's independence day, but food is a mix of cultures (Ivory Coast, Congo, Indian/African, etc.).
Our appetizer (Pondu & rice) was outstanding - flavorful mix of greens & beef stew. As was one of the two mains, fufu w. grain sauce (actually a different type of beef stew with big tender chunks of meat). Fufu & the fermented dough placali for the other dish (w. gumbo sauce) is a bread substitute made of cassava, great for dipping (by hand) in the sauces. Only the gumbo wasn't quite to our liking - more gelatinous with an herb that was an acquired taste.
A nice bonus was the dessert'Congo cake' - actually small balls that were more like beignet (donut) holes.
The minuses, though few: This is not a fancy restaurant, & had some odd (but comfortable) uneven seating benches. Unfortunately, at least on our visit, there was little heat on a freezing night - which the owners tried to make up for with convection heat dishes propped on a chair to the side of our table.
The one unforgivable issue was charging tax on our tip, even though the credit card machine indicated a suggested tip without it (& which is illegal in Quebec)! I offered a generous 20% tip & was surprised to find later it was upped by the taxes. I won't report this but it is a violation of the new Quebec law. Stop it!
I don't want to take away from what was overall a great experience though, don't avoid this place but do check to make sure you aren't similarly hit. Prices overall were reasonable - with drinks it was $128 with taxes.

A Wonderful Dining Experience! I recently visited this African restaurant & was thoroughly impressed by the experience. From the moment I walked in, the welcoming & vibrant ambience set the tone for a great meal. The decor was warm & inviting, with a touch of authentic African charm that made the atmosphere truly unique. The service was top-notch-the staff member was attentive, friendly, & eager to ensure we had a great dining experience. They were knowledgeable about the menu & happy to make recommendations. Their positive attitude added an extra touch of warmth to the evening. As for the food, it was absolutely delicious! We ordered fufu, alloco, half chicken yassa, & half grilled chicken. Each dish was bursting with rich, flavorful spices & cooked to perfection. The fufu had the perfect texture, the alloco was crispy & sweet, & the chicken dishes were tender & wonderfully seasoned. It was clear that a lot of care & love went into preparing the food. This restaurant is a gem, & I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy authentic African cuisine in a welcoming & pleasant setting. I can't wait to come back & try more dishes!

Last weekend, my family & I visited 30 Juin Restaurant in Montreal, a spot known for its authentic Congolese cuisine. We were excited to dive into flavors that reminded us of home, & this meal did not disappoint. Our server, Claudia, warmly welcomed us & guided us through the menu, making us feel at ease right away. To start, we ordered Sweet Potato Fries, Beef Samoussas (4), & Veggie Samoussas (5). Each bite was bursting with flavor & set the tone for the feast to come. For our shared, family-style entrée, we chose a variety of dishes: Makayabu (2) - fried cod that was perfectly seasoned & crispy, ½ Yassa Chicken - braised chicken marinated in a lemon, mustard, & onion sauce that was both tangy & rich, & Laid - stewed cassava leaves that brought a comforting, earthy taste. These entrées were paired with white rice & Fufu - a soft dough made from wheat flour, ideal for scooping up every bit of sauce. This meal hit home in every sense. Not only was it hearty & delicious, but it also brought back childhood memories of eating similar dishes at my grandparents' house. The flavors were authentic & nostalgic, & with six of us sharing, there was still plenty of food left over to take home. The ambiance of the restaurant was cozy & inviting, & being among the first customers to arrive, we had a chance to enjoy the space before it filled up. Claudia's service was impeccable - she was attentive & kind, adding to our experience. That said, the bathroom could use some attention. While it was usable, it wasn't as clean or presentable as I would have liked. Overall, 30 Juin Restaurant delivered a meal that felt like a warm hug from home. I love a good African cuisine, & this spot truly captured the essence of Congolese flavors. We'll definitely be back for another visit!

The food was very good 😋 The service is very slow. The waitress forgot about us. Everything we requested took for ever to get it. We ordered 2 dishes & a side dish... We got the side dish when we were already finishing the 2 main dishes.
