Mai Xiang Yuan is an absolute gem that delivers an unforgettable culinary experience from start to finish. We began our meal with two refreshing cold starters: the Cucumber Salad & Wood Ear Mushroom Salad-both perfectly seasoned with just the right balance of garlic, vinegar, & sesame oil. Each bite was crisp, clean, & packed with flavour. But the star of the appetizer round was definitely #55: the Cilantro & Black Mushroom Salad. Earthy, aromatic, & beautifully balanced, it offered a unique texture & taste that elevated the entire dining experience
For the main event, we shared an order of fried pork & cabbage dumplings-crispy on the outside & juicy within, each dumpling bursting with well-seasoned filling that left us wanting more. The boiled lamb & spring onion dumplings were equally exceptional: tender, comforting, & infused with the subtle sweetness of spring onion that paired beautifully with the richness of the lamb.
Everything was made even better with a couple of cold Tsingtao beers to wash it all down. The pairing of the dumplings & Tsingtao was nothing short of perfect-light, refreshing, & incredibly satisfying.
Service was prompt, friendly, & welcoming. This is a spot where tradition meets quality, & every dish reflects the care & craft of true culinary artistry. We'll be back-soon, & often.View more
Fried dumplings arrived burnt. The waiter was extremely nice.View more
Great dumplings! The steamed ones are nicer than the fried ones. The skin of the dumpling is a little on the thick side but it's goodView more
My wife & I enjoyed a nice lunch at Mai Xiang Yuan Dumpling. She ordered the boiled dumplings. I ordered the fried. We both got the wonton soup. The service, atmosphere & food were all great. Only challenge that they are cash only (has an ATM in the entrance). I'd definitely go here again!View more
My favourite dumpling spot in Montreal! I wish they still had the fried tomato egg dumplings but we enjoyed the chicken curry ones a lot. Cucumber salad was delicious as well.View more
The Shanghai style soup dumplings are good but the fried ones aren't - forced tips were a pleasant surpriseView more
Delicious, flavourful & reasonably priced dumplings with vegetarian options. We had steamed & fried dumplings & both were really good depending on your preference. We found the lunch menu had a lot of missing items compared to what was online, but there were still lots to choose from though not many vegetarian options.View more
Good dumpling restaurant. The place seems to have been renovated. Looks nice & clean. However, it's still CASH only. No cards accepted. I ordered steamed dumplings but the waiter misunderstood. We got fried dumplings instead. Personally, I feel that these fried dumplings are just too fried that you can't really enjoy the taste of the filling. I was disappointed. I also had a wonton soup. It was ok but not great. In the past, I've had steamed dumplings here & they were delicious so I would probably come back.View more
Whenever I come here I'm never left disappointed. The service is great & everyone there is kind. On the other hand the food is delicious! Now when it comes to the food I ordered 3 things: - Pork & Chives Xiao long baos - Pork & Shrimp Xiao long baos - Pan fried pork & chives dumplings The Xiao long baos (soup dumplings) were outstanding! The pork & chives ones have a light flavour & the soup is so flavourful. I wasn't the biggest fan of soup dumplings before this restaurant. I found that the soup was more greasy somehow. The soup is light & the flavour just burst into your mouth. The pork & shrimp soup dumplings were on another level. If you aren't able to eat shrimp I recommend the pork & chives! The pork & shrimp dumplings had so much flavour. The umami taste that leaves you wanting another one. I love how there is so many different types of dumplings on the menu too. The pan fried dumplings are great as well! You can't go wrong with pan fried dumplings. I'm personally a fan of the chicken pan fried dumplings here but I decided to try the pork ones. The pork & chives are heavy but the crispness of the skin goes so well with the filling. There is also lots of seating & its cash only but they have a atm at the front! If you plan on going here I recommend!!View more
I used their takeout service during covid & was very satisfied. Recently went there for lunch with a friend & we ordered fried as well as steamed dumplings : shrimp & pork as well as beef & Curry. The shrimp & pork were over fried, which was not the case during covid, & I think it was an exception to the norm. Both orders were delicious.View more
Best dumplings in MTL. Get the fried dumplings, make up the little sauce. Been coming here since my McGill days & the quality is still amazing & low priced for a huge amount of food!View more
Exquisitely formed & perfectly fried & steamed dumplings. Great soups, nice sake. Small, crowded, & completely worth it.View more
My daughter suddenly had a craving for dumplings when his brother was getting a haircut in Chinatown so we decided to try Mai Xiang Yuan. The place was not full when we went in around 12:15 pm but it suddenly became full after 15 minutes.
We ordered the following: (1) Fried Lamb & onion dumplings, (2) Pork, mushroom, & shrimp dumplings, & (3) Pork & shrimp dumplings in soup.
The place may not be fancy looking but the dumplings we had were very savory. We've tried a few of the dumplings place near the area but none got our approval in terms of taste. That's why we were so happy to discover this. As one posted in his review, truly a "diamond in the rough."
The service was great. The staff were all smiling (you can see the people making the dumplings; so, we took the opportunity to see how they prepared our food). The time it took for our order to be served is quite acceptable.
We never had the chance to see/ use the restroom. We were in & out of the place in 30 minutes & we ate 40 dumplings (total). As my daughter simply put it, "HAPPY TUMMY MAMA!"
