I have to admit I was initially a little skeptical we had to share the tasting menu for 2 in fear of not being full enough, but we came out satiated. However, it did feel slightly out of balance to have 3 & desserts after only 3 savoury dishes because I was personally craving for more of the savoury, especially with the main dish being so darn delicious (but it's also possible my husband gobbled down bigger bites faster than me, so that's on us!) Every dish got better & better as we progressed through the tasting menu. The pre-dessert, however, was underwhelming considering how the spotlight was mainly on citrus fruits, but the freshness of the oranges were lackluster. The last dessert lacked body, a little too airy but I get the concept of ending on a lighter note. The main plum dessert was OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! I have to say, it completely exceeded my expectations & it ticked all the checkboxes for a perfect plated dessert. The plum sorbet was so fresh & addictive, & the little dot of fermented plum so elegantly elevated the entire dish. I would come again just because it's rare to see a Montreal restaurant nail both savoury & desserts.
Ratafia on Saint-Laurent Street was an outstanding experience from start to finish.
The space is charming & inviting, the service is warm & polished, & the food is both delicious & creative. We opted for the tasting menu, & every course was beautifully executed. The wine pairings were also very well done & complemented the dishes perfectly.
What truly made the evening special was the service. Our waitress was exceptional-genuinely warm, attentive, & welcoming. I only wish I knew her name so her outstanding work could be properly recognized.
The value is remarkable for the quality offered. The pricing is very fair & almost feels like a bargain for such a refined & memorable experience. Ratafia is a place that reminds you why dining out can be so special.
I wasn't a fan of the dishes. While I appreciate the effort to create an experimental culinary experience, the flavor combinations didn't quite work for me. The service, however, was excellent - I'd return for that alone!
Ultimately the food is just too sweet. We tasted 70% of their dishes & they were all just sweet. Their two pasta dishes incorporated sweet root vegetables so they tasted the same. On the bright side, the sweetness paid off on the DESSERTS lol. The red velvet dessert was divine & I would go back just for that.
Just really excellent & unique food. They are popular for the desserts & deservedly so of course, but all the savoury dishes we had were also top-notch. Plus, they change their menu monthly.
We came for the tasting menu & after reading many good reviews we had high expectations, unfortunately both the food & service were a let down. There were one or two dishes worth coming for: mostly the mushroom pasta. But everything else was very under seasoned. The cheese course was extremely disappointing it was basically a house made ricotta which was very bland & all one note. We needed to stop for food on our way back as were left very unfulfilled. The menu seemed to leave a lot to be desired & I'm not sure why you would end a tasting the way it was left. The service was rushed & we didn't really feel welcomed. The presentation & ambience was the only saving grace. Maybe I would come back for a cocktail & snack.
Wow!!! Must try spot in the city!! The salty & sweet menu are both incredible!! Tried several dishes, you won't be disappointed. Extremely well composed plates! Could taste the passion. Loved every bite! Thank you for the amazing service & experience x
Delicious menu. Of the 6 dishes in the tasting menu 3 were dessert which may or may not be your thing. Extremely small portions so would be ideal if you are having a few alcoholic drinks- without drinks I felt a bit hungry after several courses which has never happened to me with a tasting menu. Still the food was great & it wasn't THAT expensive for the work that goes into the food. Will go back
Cool place with nice design & furniture, including an outside small terrace. Ambience is ok as well. Food is decent, but nothing crazy. Some dishes were tasteless ( like the arborio rice ), others ok, but not to die for. The only crazy thing is the dessert ( beetroot cake ) in my opinion. & I'm not a big dessert fan. Service was ordinary towards bad. My waitress was bad, but I saw the other ones & they were pretty good, so I won't judge based on mine as it looks like it was her first day at work. For my hungry friends, portions are rather small so you might leave hungry. I recommend you have a small bite before going if you are hungry by default. Good wine list. Some interesting cocktails as well🍸. Verdict : give it a try.
Always enjoyable evening with a cozy atmosphere & chef inspired dishes
A blast as usual: incredible & thoughtful service, cocktails & wine pairing on point, mind-blowing dishes... One of the best restaurants in Montreal for sure!
