A veritable institution for Portuguese cuisine in Old Montreal, Porto Mar offers all the classics you'd expect. The setting is in keeping with those original stone-brick buildings accented with wood trim offering a somewhat somber moody atmosphere. All very historic! Given the configuration of the room, there are several seats at the front with large windows facing d'Youville street & then a cozy similar sized section in the back (itself divided into two by a walkthrough zone) deep into the brick & old wood look. For our meal we opted for the table d'hote...We started with the Caldo Verde Soup (very good but could have been a bit more flavorful) & the Mixed Salad (it was a mixed salad). For our mains we had the Grilled Half Chicken (very moist & tender meat) & the Fish of the Day - Cod (also very good) with a small serving of potatoes & vegetables on the side. Dessert was a traditional & very good Creme Caramel (Flan) & the Chocolate Mousse (good). Service was friendly & helpful with the meal being served promptly. Enjoy!

Excelente experiência em família!!! Parabéns ao atendimento do Sr Miguel!!! Gentileza e simpatia!!! O ambiente é muito aconchegante com uma música de primeira ao fundo. A comida, deliciosa. Um pérola na gélida e charmosa Montreal.
We went for lunch & ordered special of the day & calamari. Both were very good & dessert at the end was so delicious too. Highly recommend. Service was very nice as well.
Went there during our break, we were seated by the window which was nice. To start with they brought us olives with cold butter & bread. There's a $10 extra fee when you share a plate.
I have tried a variety of dishes: calamari, shrimps, & grilled sardines. The sardines weren't fresh enough unfortunately. Which is a risk to take & I was informed that they do not arrive frozen. Small fish is hard to store fresh & taste good only of served on the first 2-3 days after caught. So this one is on me. Calamari was a bit rubbery too. I do need to speak highly of the service though: polite, attentive, & friendly.

Excellent resto. I went there for a romantic dinner with my husband. Great service - great food, terrific good chicken & caldo verde.
Will definitely get back here.
One of the best Portuguese restaurant I've been to in town, specifically in the Old Montreal Area, with it own touch.
The service given was very pleasant, helped us with the wine selection.

The young lady server Laureen was only the best! She was very kind & good.
The seafood mix with rice was not nice at all, no taste, & kind of soup with rice .
My husband took calamars & shrimps peri peri, again it was tasteless & the calamars were overcooked.
Very touristic restaurant but no quality .
We had the most amazing meal! Such fresh fish & the spicy shrimp are amazing! Best deal in the Old Port for price & quality! The Cod & Swordfish were amazing!
