Today (June 24) late morning I went to this cafe to try their coffee, terrasse & food which were good. However, the issue is with the differential treatment I received from the cashier when I stood in the line. In front of me there was a white girl whom the cashier spoke to very nicely & ask how she was. When my turn came, the cashier's attitude suddenly shifted to a defensive attitude, cold smile, not the same treatment she offered the customer before me. An hour later I went to order some food & again the same attitude. I felt targeted by this lady.
To be fair, the people who were serving the food & making the coffee were much friendlier to me.
One of the most stylish cafes in Montreal. Remarkable design, excellent coffee, warm & kind service along with a very nice view of an inner courtyard. All served alongside Japanese sandwiches & snacks. Gets very busy around lunch.
I only wanted a quick brunch item, so I swung by for the Tamago Sando after a wait of 10 min to order.
I actually liked the industrial vibe of the cafe, matching many of buildings & stations in Montreal, brightened up with the skylights & disco ball. There was more table space than expected from reviews, & I would def come back to work here.
Unfortunately, the Tamago Sando was just okay. It was a bit bland, nothing I'd strongly recommend to others. I didn't try the drinks this time around though.
Wow what a place. I have been to hundreds of cafes around the world & this has to be one of the best interiors I've seen. Absolutely stunning! Marked down the score on service as it was very slow when I was there & not much interaction with the staff.
Gem of an independent cafe, bistro, sake, DJ vibing joint. Excellent coffee, be quick to buy beans to go. The Matcha is superb.
I was really excited to try Osmo, which makes today's experience even more disappointing.
I arrived & joined the queue to order while waiting for a friend to meet me. I placed my coat on a table to save a seat, which is something many customers naturally do in busy cafés. A few minutes later another customer came over & told me that because he had ordered before me, the table was his. I politely told him I didn't really agree & suggested he speak to the staff if there was an issue rather than confronting me directly.
Instead, he sat down at the table anyway & got the staff involved. What surprised me most was that the staff immediately sided with him & told me that because he had ordered first, he was entitled to the table.
It honestly left me feeling really uncomfortable & disrespected. Even if that's the café's policy, the whole situation could have been handled with a lot more courtesy & professionalism. As a customer, I didn't feel valued at all.
I ended up leaving straight away without ordering anything, & sadly I won't be returning or recommending Osmo to others. Really disappointing!
A couple who I met at a bar tipped us off that this is the spot blowing up on IG. Apparently, there's a pretty cool underground cocktail lounge, but we just stuck around for the cafe.
Not sure why, but I almost always defaulted to iced when it comes to matcha & hojicha lattes. I honestly can't remember the last time I ordered one hot, so it was just nice to switch it up & taste something different. Nothing special but still a really solid cup.
The Tamago Sando was fantastic though. Wished the kitchen hadn't forgotten the smoked salmon I added, but even without, it was great. A perfectly fried jammy egg, cracked pepper, & Mornay sauce. Not the traditional Japanese Kewpie mayo route, but this fusion with French Mornay sauce based on béchamel base loaded with Emmental cheese, gave the whole thing a nice savory boost.
Best social café /restaurant/ concept with a smart Japanese touch in MTL. (Thanks to Hideyuki Imaizumi).
Food is simple & great. Prices are really OK.
Feel free to enjoy a cosy lunch there or dive into a musical experience with food & drinks that you will only get there.
