I have had my own Chinese restaurant for almost 12 years. I heard about this new Chinese restaurant for some time. Look at our names, Aunt Dai & Uncle Lee!
The birthday of one of my best friends is coming up. I invited her & her husband to try this famous restaurant. I checked the reviews before I made the reservation. I totally understand some customers had a high expectation about the flavour given the price tag for the dishes. With my own restaurant having much lower prices & bigger portions I feel I am a tiny little bit responsible for people expecting higher taste/dollar values. So I am thinking about either doubling the prices for all dishes in my own restaurant or giving this beautiful restaurant a visit myself. Three of us ordered the duck plate (ordered additional crepes for ONLY 3 dollars, I should have asked 10 orders of those additional crepes without ordering the duck at all if I want to save money), spicy noodles, tomato salad, salmon dish, two cocktails named'faire ca pour toi' & tea. The three of us are all from mainland China & we all think the food is very tasty. Me, looking from the angle of a Chinese restaurant owner I think their team is very dedicated to Chinese cooking & they are very into the details. I think it's a great contribution to Chinese food in Montreal. Very impressive! They deserve a lot of credit for doing what they are doing.
After this visit, I would assume Uncle Lee & Aunt Dai would follow each other on Tinder!

Delicious modern twist on Chinese cuisine. The duck was perfection, loved all the condiments that came with it. The oysters were fresh, the deviled eggs were surprisingly flavorful. The standout dish was the mushrooms. Wow it's literally a burst of umami on the palate! Bravo to the chef! Service was friendly. Bar was unfortunately slow, it took 20mins to get cocktails each time. It was also very loud at 9pm on a Saturday, I felt like I was screaming at my partner the whole time. Would still highly recommend this restaurant for the food.

Really good value for money for a place that you could take someone for a date. But if your date is Chinese, they'll be able to find you somewhere with more authentic food & less attentive service.

The sous-vide sweet & sour ribs are a must try. The yard is beautiful. Food is quite authentic Chinese local taste. The service is not the best which makes the experience not so pleasant.

I have been to Cadet a few times & very much enjoyed the food. When I heard of Oncle Lee, a Chinese joint with ties to the aforementioned restaurant & Bouillion Bulk, I couldn't resist. & folks, the experience did not disappoint. TLDR: Get a reservation! This place is excellent & I am a tough critic. Context: Four of us shared 8 plates & a few cocktails. Company was a former colleague & our +1s. Food: Well priced, perfect portion sizes. The menu is tight - every item has its role & there is something for everyone. Special callout for the spicy noodles, ribs & the eggplant dish. All the dishes were great, but those three really stood out. The portion sizes are important here because one could certainly over-indulge in some of these rich flavors. Dishes were portioned just right. Service: prompt, friendly, strong knowledge of the menu. Our server clearly knew his stuff. The menu is more complex than some, & he had no issue explaining ingredients, the specials, dishes or cocktails. Atmosphere: moody, busy but not overwhelming, music choice & volume was just right. A relatively small place; Oncle Lee has an atmospheric dining room which evolved over our dinner. The lights were turned down as the night went on & the mood definitely entices one to stay for one last round. The decor is subtle & suitable. There is a nice balance between recognizable Chinese aesthetics & trendy themes one expects in the Plateau area. Music volume was just right. Enough to maintain the atmosphere but never overbearing. All in all, excellent. Give Oncle Lee a try, it's unlikely to disappoint.

Great food & ambience. Really creative & yummy twists on chinese dishes. We had the sea bream, greens, cocktails & french toast. All very yummy. Left my wallet here & the staff were really kind & waited after closing for me to come get it back. Thank you so much!

I was skeptical of the modern Chinese but it was light & super delicious. Steamed oysters with black bean sauce was delicate, beef tartare was amazing, 5-spice duck came with so many condiments & the correct type of wrapper, garlic rice was not too oily & very flavorful. Mushrooms with miso buerre blanc was very good too. Best of all, they were super careful to warn us of what may have shrimp cos of the allergy that we had. Thank you.

Cool atmosphere for this modern Chinese restaurant. Went back in June as my friend wanted to try Oncle Lee for her birthday dinner. We made a reservation a few days before & indicated it was a birthday dinner. While the food was good, the portions were extremely small. For the small portions, I would consider this restaurant to be on the expensive side. It is a share style menu - we ordered 5 dishes to share between 3 people & had to grab a burger after. Service was nothing special. We were left waiting for our main dishes after the starters. After informing the server, I saw him enter it into the system, so I think he simply just forgot. The restaurant has a nice vibe with darker & moodier lightning. It is also very red inside, so unfortunately was not able to take nice photos of the food. Overall, was nice to try but was not memorable enough to entice me to come back.

One of the best fusion Chinese restaurant in town. Everything was very delicious (the special on the menu tuna ceviche was very delicious). & I also highly recommended the duck breast too. Cocktails were good. The atmosphere is perfect to come with friends, family & dates. They have a very good menu (not lots of choices but enough to be satisfied). The restaurant is small (Mabe with 50 place seats). Don't forget to make a reservat cause this restaurant gets crowded very easily.

Hands down, our favourite dining experience in Montreal! Very unique Asian fusion menu, delicious food, lovely intimate ambience, & spectacular service. They were super accommodating of my partner's peanut allergy, & we even met the chef Andersen Lee who was super kind & humble. They also added a special touch for my birthday which we really appreciated. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for a nice night out or celebrating a special occasion. We'll definitely be back :) P.S. If you're from Toronto, think Sunny's Chinese but the MTL version!

Cute hipster Chinese food. It's nice to have Chinese food be seen as more than cheap take out. I like some of the creativity they've taken with flavors while being familiar still. However the price & quantity you get is a little outrageous. It's Tapas style so you order & share as is typical with Chinese cuisine except you pay a heck of a lot more so if you're hungry. Be warned. The entrees & apps are a better deal. The spicy salmon rice came & tofu dip were really good & decently priced for its quantity. The hot pot for example, per person is definitely not enough as a main meal. Even if you were to eat it alone. The duck at I think 50$ isn't even a full duck. I don't regret it but I'm not sure I would recommend it or go more than once.

I visited Oncle Lee with a friend, grabbing a lucky last minute reservation (which are necessary at this PACKED restaurant). Service was quick, attentive but simple. Nothing bad to say about it. The food was very good. I expected much spicier dishes, & was surprised to find most dishes played on savoury/sweet/sour. But, it worked! The eggplant dish was a standout, & so was the yuzu sea bream. But: keep some stomach space for the pain perdu at the end of the meal, that was the standout. The atmosphere is relaxed, but quite noisy with tables close to each other given how busy the restaurant can get. Expect to have to talk louder than usual to hear your mates. Definitely a must eat in the area for a modern canadian twist on chinese fare.

Okay folks this is an Asian Inspired restaurant. We appreciate the effort you put in, but this is Not Asian Fusion. Definitely Not Chinese restaurant. We had high expectations coming here, but unfortunately it didn't hit the spot. Friday night crowd was a mix of age groups with more leaning towards older crowd. Service was normal, nothing better than an average restaurant, & food was edible but overpriced for what it is. Here's a run down of what we got & a short blurb. Appetizers: scallop XO sauce & pork ribs. Scallop was decent probably 2 scallops chopped & tossed in a nice dressing. Pork ribs good flavour but barely any meat to enjoy. Main: Duck, spicy noodles, stir fried veggies with garlic. Duck was most likely cooked sous-vide & seared. Server with 6 wrappers, a bunch of sauces & toppings just like a Chinese taco. Duck was well cooked but all the remaining condiments were mediocre & not complementary to the dish. Wrappers are broken so they leak on your hand when you try to make a bite, the spicy sauce is sweet & not spicy, patte de volaille is so random. Noodles were very oily, tiny portion, below average flavour. Veggies with garlic was absolute disaster, overcooked 3 stems of Chinese broccoli soaked in butter. Yes butter & most likely heavy cream. This was the moment I knew the kitchen is in deep trouble & needs new leadership. No chef would approve for vegetables to be cooked this way. Legend says to use a wok for stir-fry.

It's a Chinese fusion cuisine merging recipes with Canadian culture, joining culinary forces offers truly novel flavor combinations & unique menu offerings that customers can't find elsewhere. 📌Plateau de canard aux 5 épices/5 Spice duck platter The moist, tender duck meat, added with sesame sauce & hoisin sauce, roll-it-yourself into a "duck crepes". Defiantly one of the best dishes in Uncle Lee! 📌 Nouilles epicees au sesame/Sesame spicy noodles Ma Jiang Mian inspired dish. Love the overload creamy sesame paste! A cozy & satisfying vegan dinner! 📌Pain perdu & crème glacée, lait condensé au thé/French toast & ice cream, tea, condensed milk Uncle Lee's Hong kong-style French toast inspired creation. We LOVE the taste so much!! Please don't miss out to order this dessert!! Uncle Lee has an excellent service. We had a wonderful experience.

The newish Oncle Lee has developed a strong name for itself in a short period of time for a take on Chinese-style dishes. The overall ambiance when you enter Oncle Lee is warm & inviting, with the exposed brick wall contrasting against the deep red Chinese lanterns setting a very unique vibe. The menu is tight & not necessarily what you'd expect from a typical Chinese restaurant & here is where I need to point out that this is not a Chinese restaurant in a classical sense but a restaurant serving strongly inspired Chinese dishes. The portions are relatively small for sharing (again, a difference from the Chinatown restos) & you should be prepared to order multiples of the same if you are a large party. For our meal we Deviled Eggs (good), Fried Calamari (excellent...very good batter & sauce), the Scallops with XO Sauce (very good), Sweet & Sour Eggplant (very good & tasty), Sautéed Greens (good but not especially flavorful), Garlic Fried Rice (very good but for rice the portion was far too small), Crispy Noodle Seafood Chow Mein (very good), & the 5-Spice Duck Platter (good but not the typical Beijing version you may have had) & ending with the French Toast with Ice Cream (very good but a little out of place in a Chinese-style restaurant. Service was extremely friendly, helpful & attentive & we never had to want for anything on that front. Enjoy!

Food is by Chinese standards mediocre with an open mind. Average service. More of a bar than a restaurant. Deafening noise from next table since they yell at top of their lungs. Just a heads up if you're not into loud people. &'1 of 50 new best restaurants whatever' before its opening is just amusing & marketing strategy.
