RESTAURANT REVIEW: MISTER STEER
?THE QUICK WRAP
📍 Restaurant Name: Mister Steer
📍 Cuisine/Type: Classic Burger Joint / Diner
📍 Location/Vibe: Downtown Montreal - a nostalgic mix of an old-school diner & a sports restaurant.
📍 The Standout Feature: Lightning-fast service & perfectly cooked, fresh burgers.
?THE BREAKDOWN
?🥖 The Atmosphere & Vibe
Mister Steer brings a comforting, nostalgic energy to the table. It strikes a balance between a classic, old-school diner & a casual sports bar. It's the kind of unpretentious, welcoming spot that's perfect for a quick, satisfying meal.
?🍷 Food & Drink Highlights
🍔 The Best Bite: Mister Steerburger Supreme Platter - Featuring two 1/2 lb. Steerburgers-one topped with melted cheese & the other with two strips of bacon. Ordered medium, the beef was incredibly fresh, juicy, flavorful, & absolutely hit the spot.
🍟 The Supporting Cast:'Suzie Q' curly French fries - A massive pile of seasoned, coiled fries served alongside the burgers that makes for a fun & classic diner side.
❌ Room for Improvement: None - When a classic burger platter hits the spot exactly as intended, there's nothing to complain about.
?🛎? Service & Hospitality
The staff here was amazing & incredibly friendly. What really stood out was the speed-service was lightning-fast. Before you even realize it, the food is served piping hot right in front of you.
?THE FINAL VERDICT
Mister Steer is a definitive staple for anyone looking for a no-nonsense, high-quality burger in a friendly atmosphere. With its incredible speed & perfectly executed comfort food, it is absolutely a great place to go & well worth a return visit.
?Overall Score: ⭐ 5/5
Walked in with 2 friends on a saturday night when the restaurant was pretty empty. When I asked for a third menu for myself, the waitress said'No, there are only two menus'. Mind you, the restaurant was not even half full. The waitress forgot our drink order & the entrees. She didn't give us any attention & when we asked for the bill, she didn't split it as we had mentioned saying'It's already done'. Sucks to leave a bad review because the food was good but the service was horrible.
Atmosphere. Nostalgic & classic old style restaurant. Clean, warm atmosphere.
Service. Friendly, bilingual, knowledgeable & accommodating.
Food. Always consistently good.
Stopped by for a basket of fries & a drink with friends.
As usual the fries was a large portion, enough for three adults to snack on with a drink. Curly Q fries were crisp & perfectly flavoured, not greasy & you could not smell anything - which is what you want because it means the restaurant is changing their frying oil properly.
I have eaten here hundreds of time & loved their all beef, no filler hamburger. This is the only restaurant in Montreal from the beginning, that would form its meat into a weighed ball & then press on it to form the shape of a burger. You could almost say that Mr Steer was the first smash burger joint in the city - only that they don't squish it so much that it's a crispy burned dead piece of meat lol. Their burger is done just right, similarly to how What a Burger does.
I also loved that they sell Rootbeer & they serve it in a chilled mug. Tasted to good.
Bottom line. Will I return - without a doubt!
Quick weeknight dinner for two. Had the Mr. Steerburger (1/4 pound) with coleslaw & a small Coke. Food & service were very good, but $24 (including tax but not tip) is too expensive for what I got. A side of cole slaw was $5.95 & a small coke was $4.95, which is excessive (They charge $9.55 for a mug of draft beer (not a pint, which is $12.55, which is more expensive than almost any bar in town),$4.95 for coffee & $7.55 for a glass of tomato juice, so they are clearly gouging on drink prices). The resto was practically empty too at 7PM! Good food at an iconic & nostalgic Montreal spot, but bang for your buck, it's not worth it!
Burgers were fine, fries were fine. Don't buy a soft drink, very expensive. 4.75$ for a child size coke. Wait staff clearly did not want to be there
Best burgers in town. Worst sides in town. Been going for decades. Drinks too expensive.
Food was great burger was really good. Service was ok. For 1 cheese burger no fries & & a drink for $30 dollars way to expensive also including a tip & taxes.
We are currently eating at this restaurant & I am very shocked by the drink. You get a tiny cup of soft drink for 4.55 $ .This is crazy & no respect for the client. You can have a whole bottle for less of the price in a supermarket. I have never ever complained about a restaurant but i think it is too much really.

Newly renovated & expects customers to pay for the work!
What an utter disappointment & letdown!!! Been eating at their establishments (present & previous since 1958 when they began). Wanted to try the newly-designed... "If it ain't broke" - now it is.
Loved the food & all the little extras/eccentricities such as - the pot of dill pickle slices (now no longer on table or free & "Pickles $1.75" on menu, the little shaker of seasoned salt for the dress-your-own-salad (gone), ditto for the garlic powder.
Worst surprise is the Daily Specials, always available till closing now end at 3:00 p.m., making your meal on which now has as separate charges the soft drink & also the potatoes or baked beans. Beans now taste like the cheapest canned versions (were homemade through all the years). This will have been my final visit. I can get better in many places & a finer meal for sure for my $17 before tip! Complaints & comments brought only excuses.
Customers should stay away in droves so these guys get the point that you cannot pull the plug on all that was & hike your prices at the same time!
