Mister Steer is widely recognized as a nostalgic Montreal landmark that specializes in classic, high-quality burgers and signature curly fries. Many patrons praise the fresh, flavorful meat and the comforting atmosphere, often highlighting the speedy service and welcoming staff as key components of a positive visit. While it remains a go-to destination for many long-time fans and visitors seeking a traditional diner experience, some recent reviews express concerns regarding rising menu prices, inconsistent service quality, and occasional discrepancies in food preparation. Despite these mixed opinions about value and modern consistency, the restaurant continues to hold a reputation as an iconic spot for those craving an old-school burger in the downtown area.

Steer away from Mister Steer. Went there for lunch (take out). I was well greeted by a lovely gentleman & that is where it all went to crap. The lady behind the counter was super curt & impatient with me. She got into an argument with her male server & proceed to push me away to another terminal. I can appreciate that it can be a stressful job but it seemed to be the way she interacts with people. The server was kind but she forgot my pickles. Apart for the fries, the burger was miniscule. If you are to charge a premium, you should really treat your clients better. The coupon that I had for the UTE discount will go in the garbage because I would feel very guilty about sending someone there.
For a restaurant that has been standing for 60 +years, the level of service I experienced today was nothing short of appalling.
?I walked in & addressed the waitress in English. Rather than extending basic hospitality, she made a deliberate choice to repeatedly answer me & ask her questions in French. Normally, one might chalk this up to a language barrier-except for the fact that she turned right around & spoke English to the table next to mine. This wasn't a communication issue; it was a conscious, passive-aggressive decision to make a customer feel unwelcome. She brought me a salad with zero dressing on it & said that's what the side salad is. Lol. When I finished my meal, I offered her some constructive, polite advice: in hospitality, it is standard practice to address guests in the language they speak to you. Her response? Outright rudeness. She immediately hid behind the line,'We're in Quebec,' adopting a smug, anti-tourist/anti-American attitude-completely unaware that I am a Montreal resident who dines out at local establishments twice a day, every single day & an excellent tipper. To top off her absolute display of disdain, when bringing the payment terminal, she had already pre-selected the'No Tip' option on my behalf. When I asked her to bring the machine back so I could leave a tip anyway, she scoffed, said,'No, it's fine, I put no tip,' & walked away with pure insolence-once again speaking in French just to double down on her point.
?I understand that the hospitality industry is facing severe labor shortages right now, but keeping an employee who actively antagonizes paying customers, acts with callous disrespect, & drives business out the door is a terrible mistake. Having no staff on the floor is far better than having someone who treats local patrons with this level of disgust.
?A 60-year+ legacy deserves far better than staff who act like this. Go work in front of a machine or computer if you're going to be so angry & disrespectful especially when someone was trying to help. The manager is obviously not any better as i heard the laugh when she complained about me giving her unwarranted advice about a business that I'm more familiar with than the time they've been on this earth. Employees like that are a dime a dozen..inexperienced, rude & myopic...easy to replace

Tutto buonissimo. Prendete i piatti tipici. Il panini Deli... Pazzeschi. Sono almeno per 2 persone. Enormiiiiiiii
Non prendete antipasti altrimenti non mangiate il resto.
Locale caratteristivo, storico, datato ma bellissimo. Bravi
The Steer burger was trés bien, merci! It was a great place to try some local food. Poor Montreal is heavily under construction & these guys are right on the main torn-up strip. But definitely worth stopping in if you're up in that area!
